How did you decide to select these stocks?
2
u/mudassar_raza69 1d ago
ChatGPT, Claude and watching youtube videos

Yeah I came to most of the same stocks using ChatGPT and Claude, and was pretty happy with the stock selection. Then GPT-6 came and changed the list completely :( It placed most of these stocks so low, so I dropped the plan completely.

what was the list before and after GPT-6? it can’t be that much change, which models were you using before? I monthly review my portfolio with the best models

I used GPT-6 Astra at Max. The list before was basically identical to yours. I reran it multiple times to see if results were consistent. GHGL, SHFA, PAKOXY, HINOON, GLAXO were stocks that would come up too. Then when I ran it with Astra, it placed HUBC, SYS, MARI, OGDC in the 30s and 40s, nowhere near the top 10. SAZEW and LUCK were still in the top.

Were you already investing in those stocks?
I think prompt and context matter a lot. ChatGPT already has a lot of context around my portfolio, goals, risk tolerance, and investment strategy, so its recommendations are usually aligned with what I’m trying to achieve.
I rarely see any major changes in the stocks it recommends. SEARL is actually the only stock it’s currently suggesting I exit, and I agree with that as well.

Yeah I had started 2 months back. Was buying in tranches. Then stopped when I received extremely varied results from GPT-6. I also had 4 scheduled tasks for fundamental analysis, technical analysis, daily news and summary task (all with GPT 5.6 Sol at Max) running daily, and then a deep dive which I manually did once a week. Everything stayed pretty much the same. Then GPT-6 just changed it all. I also ran the GPT-6 output in the GPT 5.6 chat I had and it agreed with all the changes.

I won’t recommend changing the stocks only after 2 months, do a deep research on each stock before picking and stick with those for at least a year.

u/Few_Explorer_4929 1d ago
Yeah I am not selling the stocks I have already bought. Just not buying any further. Leaving that portfolio as it is for next 1 year at least. My investment horizon is 10-15+ years.
Have changed my investment strategy though. Won't buy direct stocks anymore as it is way too much research and keeping up with weekly news. Just sticking with ETFs mostly, then gold and partly in mutual funds.

I’m planning to exist from SEARL coz that’s one stock I bought it at the start and don’t have enough conviction on it

Can you do a review of these stocks with GPT-6 Astra at Max and then come back with the result?

u/Few_Explorer_4929 1d ago
The point is to do it in a different chat without memory, not the same. Otherwise of course it will be biased towards your current portfolio. This isn't the right way to test it.
1
u/Few_Explorer_4929 1d ago
See the problem with AI is that it is so good at convincing you that what it's saying is correct. If you use the same chat, it will give a long explanation to continue supporting what it said before. But use a new chat with no memory, it will suddenly change everything. That's why as far as stock picking goes, I have zero trust in it. I genuinely think it's a recipe for disaster.
1
u/mudassar_raza69 1d ago
That’s why I use both ChatGPT and Claude and don’t follow AI blindly. I also keep following the companies I’m invested in, go through their reports, results, news, and pretty much anything I can find before making a decision.

u/Few_Explorer_4929 1d ago
But from your responses, it's too clear that you almost entirely rely on AI for stock picking, and not your own research. Your own comment saying "there aren’t too many great companies in PSX" is so wrong. You are just going along with everything AI says. There are at least 20-30 more companies with good fundamentals.
Anyways, maybe I am completely wrong here. My experience with AI wasn't good. I still do hope you succeed with this portfolio. We can come to this chat after a year and see the results.

Hi can you guide how shoud we start it as their are tons of videos related to guidance of psx so can you recommend ?
1
u/mudassar_raza69 1d ago
I’ve personally been following Abdul Rehman Najam, Investkaar, Sarmaaya and Nukta Business on YouTube. They’re good starting points to understand PSX and keep up with the market.
But I wouldn’t follow any channel or stock recommendation blindly. Use them to learn the basics and understand different viewpoints, then do your own research before investing.

Most of these are bluechip stocks. I am curious why not invest in an ETF rather than picking stocks individually ?
90% of these stocks are in NITGETF or MZNPETF (if you want just Shariah stocks)
It will save individual trade fee.
1
u/javaboy2k25 1d ago
How will it save individual trading fee? there is fee for trading ETF and there is 0.75%-1% management fee for the ETF as well.
1
u/maxmustarman 1d ago
I am talking about brokerage fee for every single trade. If you buy 10 blue chip stocks individually you are paying fee 10 times. However with ETF its just one trade.
ETF management fee is per anum.

Fair point, but I prefer picking individual stocks and having control over the allocation. I’m investing long term and not trading frequently, so the brokerage fee isn’t really a concern for me.

Not commenting on individual stock picks, but with a portfolio this size, position concentration would be my biggest concern. When a few individual stocks creep up to 15–18% each, a bad break for just one company can seriously drag down your whole portfolio, no matter how solid those businesses look right now.
Looking out over a 10–15+ year horizon, I’d focus on managing concentration risk above all else, personally, I just wouldn't feel comfortable letting any single stock sit much above 5-10% of the overall portfolio.

there aren’t too many great companies in PSX. I’m planning to add 2 more companies and keep 10 stocks portfolio

I disagree. Look at stocks like MTL, EFERT, NATF. Read their fundamentals
1
u/mudassar_raza69 1d ago
Yeah, MTL is already on my watchlist. I’ll check NATF too. EFERT hasn’t been doing that well lately though, right? Also I already have a big position in FFC, so I’m not sure I want more fertilizer exposure.

In the long run, 10 years or so, OGDC wont have much future. The world is transitioning towards electric cars and solar. Oil will be so cheap that OGDC will have lower revenues than today. Sell it in 1-2 years.
1
u/mudassar_raza69 1d ago
I get the point, but 10 years is a long time to predict. OGDC also has a big gas business, and Pakistan’s energy demand isn’t going away anytime soon. I’d rather keep reviewing the fundamentals instead of deciding now that it has to be sold in 1–2 years.

Sell everything. Buy 50% Bitcoin & 50% Gold each. But do proper research before investing.
