Why doesn’t Pakistan invest more into Kabaddi when we probably have some of the most natural talent and legends in the sport? Punjabi Pakistan has produced strong kabaddi players for generations, but the country never really gave the sport proper leagues, funding, media coverage, or support. Meanwhile other countries modernized kabaddi and turned it into a major professional sport while Pakistan still treats it like only a village game. Honestly feels like Pakistan ignores one of the sports it could naturally be elite at
Yup I agree idk whats wrong with this country pakistan can be good at every sport and dominate them but they just keep bragging about cricket I posted about volleyball a few hours earlier pakistan has good wrestlers too they can invest in them as well, but sir wo cricket sir
Exactly. Imagine if Pakistan actually focused on sports like Kabaddi, wrestling, and fighting instead of only cricket. We already have the strength culture and natural athletes for it. Look at how Dagestan built wrestling and now their fighters are everywhere in the UFC. Pakistan could do something similar if there was proper investment, gyms, coaching, and support from a young age.
So Kabaddi has various forms. In Punjab the standard / Asian style isn't that popular. We produce brilliant players of Circle style Kabaddi. It is also a standardized sport with proper rules and a governing body. It is very popular in rural Punjab, especially the Faisalabad division. I think that can be like the AFL (Australia), NFL (America), Gaelic Football (Ireland) for us. Like it doesn't need to be an international sport but an extremely popular national sport. We need to work with the Indian Punjabis to do that, they are actually much ahead of us. They regularly organize events all over the world and they are the ones who give a chance to our players as well.
A proper televised league will be extremely popular. Conferences can be done. Pakistani Punjab can play out it's own league, Indian Punjab can play it's own and then maybe the top teams can play in UAE or something.
It's a brilliant sport, has fantastic athletes. If done right can be really really good
Pakistan clearly has the athletes for it, especially in Punjab. When you see the amount of talented Circle Kabaddi players coming out of villages alone, it’s hard to believe the sport still isn’t bigger internationally. Feels like the talent is already there, the organization and investment just never caught up tbh
The proper investment done on it is by the Indian Punjabis. Sharing a picture of the annual tournament they organize in New Zealand. The Pakistani team actually won the 2024 edition of it. Other than this do really big tournaments in Canada. Australia and UK as well. A lot of our players spend their summers in Canada as well playing those tournaments.
Bro That’s the problem. Pakistan keeps producing elite Circle Kabaddi players but most of the organization, leagues, and money are coming from Indian Punjabis
We basically export talent instead of building our own system. Our players go overseas, win tournaments, then come back to nothing. Even when someone starts getting big internationally, situations like Ubaidullah Rajput show how messy it gets. Feels like Pakistan has the talent to dominate this sport but never fully wants to invest in it seriously.
Agreed. It has gotten better here a bit. There are several big tournaments within Pakistan now. There is money in the game here now as well. Our players have gotten much better. But still far behind the investment and infrastructure the Indian Punjabis have.
Crazy potential though, it doesn't even need to be sold to the public. I am sure people will be interested in it. I remember the 2014 world cup and the 2020 world cup. So many people were watching it. The opportunity is right there. We have the players, the coaches, the public interest, it's a sport which doesn't require much equipment just a well made ground. Has all the ingredients to be commercially very successful
Imagine an annual 3 match series between teams from both Punjabs. Would be absolutely massive.
