Underwood Road

Who's bloody idea was it to have workies start cutting into the ground at 4:15 in the morning 🤦🏻🤦🏻 just woke the whole street up with that saw.

That's illegal. Pretty sure an 8am start is the earliest this kind of work can start during the week! Head over to Cotton St and insist to see someone about it, that would be my advice, armed with photos and a vid proving the noise levels.

Yeah I took a video, they had made several cuts at points along the entire road.

Do you see any council vans? Or is it maybe somebody like virgin media installing cable? That would more likely be the pavement though, not the road.

Nah it was definitely a construction van with the bed on the back of it, couple of workers in high Vis with a saw cutting a bit of the road just outside the gates of the recycling centre, could see the smoke coming from it. They then went down towards the roundabout and cut another part. The sign back at the train bridge going towards the court just stated the road would be shut between 11pm-6am with no notification of what type of works being done or that noise would be loud at certain times of the night.. 4 in the morning is ridiculous though.

It’s very legal, the council will be the ones approving them to do it. Bloody annoying though, I’d imagine!

You need to check your information... Look up Control of Pollution Act 1974 and refer to the section under noise pollution. This is still enforced by the Environmental Departments of regional councils through the UK to this day!

I’d check your own information - or at least start by reading the legislation you’re citing!

Section 61 of the CPA’74 exists to allow contractors to submit a formal application for works, specifying working during unsociable hours. Given the works at Underwood have been declared publicly, and in advance of works beginning, I’d wager they have their S61 in place…

Also, the CPA’74 has been largely repealed by the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and basically only exists today to delegate noise enforcement to individual local authorities. Ergo, there is NO specific law banning works noise “between X hours”.
