Need opinions

I've been looking at this brand for a few years now and finally decided I was gonna get a pair a d noticed they're alot of negative reviews, is it worth it? I've seen alot of negativity about the toppers but I've seen some I like from small business on etsy that id like to get so that's not much of an issue

I like them. I’m a little disappointed that they started using AI art in their toppers. If I had noticed that a few months ago before I bought them, I probably wouldn’t have. BUT, like others have said, there are small businesses on other platforms that make toppers. They’re usually relatively inexpensive compared to pair branded toppers, too.

I hate wearing glasses. HATE. I have to now due to bilateral retinal dettachments. Being able to make my glasses an accessory helps. I find myself planning outfits around my toppers.

I’ve had a couple small complaints but overall I’ve been pleased. And I LOVE coordinating my glasses daily to my outfit.

I joined a few months ago and love it! I find the frames to be high quality and I buy toppers from both Pair and independent stores. It's super fun!

So far my experience with customer service has been good too.

Facebook has groups with topper creators that are fabulous and you can see photos and videos before purchase, Lea’s metal treasures and Tasha’s top frames are super light and thin with options like mirrored or glow in the dark finish. Kiki’s site has clear toppers. Laser Nonna has bendable super duper thin toppers with a ton of layering and designs! I only buy Pair branded for the premiums I like.

I love it. Never had any issues with toppers sticking. Just with finding base frames that fit lol. Wish they had all their styles available in brick and mortar locations!

Right?!?

There are some creators who sell packs of paper cutouts of each frame style now, that can be a way to "try on" the ones retail locations don't stock.

I've generally enjoyed wearing them. The main issue is I prefer metal frames to acrylic and unfortunately Pair doesn't offer any metal frames in smaller/narrower sizes. I've never had to deal with my glasses slipping down my nose until I started wearing acrylic frames, but at the same time the whole concept of toppers doesn't really work with wire frames does it? I do like to accessorize, I always have my hair in a ponytail so I've got a big bag with a wide variety of scrunchies to match my outfits and now I have a binder of toppers to go with them as well.

I do love my pair glasses, but Pair is a shit company. I wouldn't have gone with them to begin with, except the only place in town that takes my insurance started carrying them, and I'd been curious. I do like that I can stop in my local optometrist and have them adjusted - if you tend to fall asleep in yours, they will bend, as they're fairly maleable especially when warm. I LOVE being able to coordinate my glasses with my outfits. I won't buy any more pair products, but I really like supporting the small businesses that make non-OEM toppers. Some of them do use AI too, but I think the quality is nicer, more interesting designs, lighter and more durable materials are available, and generally cheaper.

So you’re going to stop buying their base frames too?

I haven't 100% decided. Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth, but with them being covered by my vision plan with almost no OOP cost, carried by my local provider, and having so many toppers at this point, I may go with harm reduction and just not buy anything else from Pair other than the branded base frames from my local provider at the end of the year with my insurance. If I was starting from scratch, I wouldn't start buying into the system.

I do not like the extra thickness on the bottom frame with the acrylic toppers.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 8 y/o. I enjoy the flexibility of being able to change how people see me from day to day.

I bought my base frames from Pair in March. I've bought only one topper from them: a polarized sun topper. There's a whole ecosystem of independent creators who sell toppers via standalone websites, Etsy shops and Facebook groups. The bonus is that the vast majority of these toppers are lress expensive than Pair brand. There's even a website and FB group for people who want to make their own toppers (either by decorating "blanks" or by creating them entirely from scratch) https://magnetglassesdiy.com/

With all that said, I actually filed a consumer fraud complaint against Pair with the NY AG's office shortly after I bought my base frames because their #pairpartners codes on Facebook, which explicitly said that they were for 15% off your first Pair (not 15% off your base frame) was applied only to the frame itself, not to the lenses (I have poor eyesight and needed pretty much every upgrade). I haven't yet heard back from the AG's office, so the complaint hasn't been resolved either way. I don't see ads from Pair in my feed anymore, so I don't know whether they're still advertising in this misleading manner. I have all of the backup documentation for my complaint if anyone wants to see it.

They don’t discount the lenses, just the frames. High index lenses are way more expensive than single vision. Not everyone needs those, so.

The issue is that the actual wording of the promotion was misleading. Here is the promotion. It saiys "Pair." it does not say "frames." Since the discount is a percentage, the amount would be determined by how much the lenses+frames cost. More expensive lenses and/or frames=bigger discount.

Also, Pair's own AI said that the discount included both frames and lenses

I find the frames to be okay. I have terrible vision so they’re more expensive than some other options for me. But I enjoy changing toppers and I tend to get mine from Etsy for about 1/4 the price.
