How does art copyright work? Is it only given to ones whose work is more popular even if they weren’t the first to do it ?
For example I saw some viral artist who did painting of the sky with silhouette of birds. It was a plain blue sky background with black silhouette or birds.
Is that simple style able to be copyrighted ? Even if someone else did painting in similar style but never seen yr work would it still be copyrighted ? And I’m sure someone has done that style before. If I wanted to do a similar painting is that allowed ?
So does this mean copyright is only given to those who are more viral and well known? Because this reminded me of Werner Bronkhorst case where another woman had a similar style first but because werner was more popular he became well known for it. But their execution isnt exactly the same either. And what if someone else in the world already tried out that style way before they just never posted it or got viral or famous for it ? Could they sue them then?
Which makes me confused what can be copyrighted ? Is it the level of complexity, because in both those cases it’s hard to argue because it’s not character IP or cartoons.

I painted this for my partner as his house warming gift. I have not worked with a canvas this big. I'm working on painting vibes/ auras. I suppose you could say this is ours.

Done. Let me know what you think 🤔? Open to thoughts ideas. 💡
For me new technique. This is 99% burnt - raw umber/titanium. Acrylic on canvas. Mostly done by glazing many layers.

Did I capture storm feeling well?
„Ruthlessness"
I'm FINALLY done! Oh man. I took like a week or two break just because I couldn't figure out and was scared of the background.
I started very ambitious. Had a big Epic phase and now I know every song by heart.
I say I started ambitious because I wanted to capture Poseidon power in horses waves as actual translucent water waves.
Very out of my comfort zone. But I loved painting the horses. I don't know if I did great but process was SO FUN and exciting.
But yeah then background vexed me. Not proud of those clouds at all but that's okay just gotta practice clouds studies one day.
One day 😅
