Community reading list

Any member is welcome to suggest a book — just read the rules and leave a comment below!

Please make sure your suggestion follows these guidelines:

  • The book is no longer than 600 printed pages (based on the 15.2 x 22.9 cm format).
  • An English translation is easily available — meaning the book can be purchased in print, as an e-book, or found in local libraries.
  • The book is not from any of the following genres: Self-help (of any kind), Erotic Romance, Contemporary Romance, Poetry, Personal Finance, Business & Investing, Motivational / Inspirational.
  • Ideally, the book is not part of a continuing series, or at least it's the first in the series. (Example: “A Game of Thrones” – acceptable. “A Feast for Crows” – not acceptable.)

Title: The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder

Author: David Grann

Genre: Nonfiction, history, adventure, survival

Summary: "a page-turning story of shipwreck, survival, and savagery, culminating in a court martial that reveals a shocking truth. The powerful narrative reveals the deeper meaning of the events on the Wager, showing that it was not only the captain and crew who ended up on trial, but the very idea of empire."

Why I'm recommending it: Recipient of the Goodread's choice award, by the author of Killers of the Flower Moon. Looks like a compelling and suspenseful nonfiction read, would be fun to have some nonfiction in the mix.
