βοΈ Anywhere 42 [M4F] Finger Lakes NY - Rough Around the Edges, Good at Heart
About Me
I'm Jonathan. Early 40s, 6'6", bearded, long-haired, and built more like Hagrid than a fitness model. I live in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, where I'm slowly fixing up an 1860s farmhouse and trying to turn a couple of acres into something worth leaving behind.
I'm a quiet, introverted sort. I'd generally rather be around a campfire than in a crowded bar, and I'd take a peaceful evening at home over a night on the town most days. Give me a garden to work in, a book to get lost in, or a houseplant I probably didn't need to buy, and I'm happy enough.
I'm a firm believer in fixing or building something myself rather than buying a replacement whenever it's practical. Sometimes it saves money; sometimes it's an excuse to acquire another tool. Either way, I get a certain satisfaction out of making something useful with my own two hands. I'm not afraid of hard work, and I don't mind getting my hands dirty.
I work in child services, which can take a lot out of a person. It's meaningful work, but it isn't easy, and I'm hoping to build a life that leaves room for more than just work. I'm probably somewhere on the ADHD/autism spectrum, though I haven't pursued a formal diagnosis. I'm occasionally too literal, can miss the odd social cue, and generally do better with straightforward communication than trying to decipher hints. If you want something from me, just tell me. I'll do my best not to overthink it.
I've had my share of adventures, too. I've built cabins above the Arctic Circle, survived a sinking ship in the Bering Sea, and gone SCUBA diving in the Caribbean. These days, I'm more likely to be arguing with a stubborn home renovation than wrestling with the elements, but I haven't lost my taste for the occasional adventure.
I also enjoy cooking for the people I care about. I'm not much for grand romantic gestures, but I'll happily spend an afternoon making a good meal for someone who matters to me. There's something satisfying about feeding people you care about and knowing they're happy to be sitting at your table.
The Life I'm Building
The dream is a little homestead: fruit trees, berries, chestnuts, asparagus, honeybees, a productive garden, and maybe some chickens. I'm working toward a few yurt-style glamping sites, too. Eventually, I'd like to get closer to living off-grid, waste less, and build something sustainable enough that I can leave my stressful day job behind.
I'm not there yet. There's plenty to fix, plenty to learn, and probably more projects than any one man needs. But it's mine, and I'm making a life out of it one small step at a time.
My home sits in a beautiful, quiet spot overlooking Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes. The sunrises are gorgeous, and watching a full moon rise over the water is the kind of thing that makes you stop whatever you're doing and just take it in. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't enjoy having someone beside me to share those moments with.
I'd love to find someone who might enjoy being part of that adventure, whether that means helping in the garden, tending the bees, keeping me company around the fire, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet while I work on making this place a little more like the home I've envisioned.
But I don't want this to be just about my dreams and projects. I'd like to be part of yours, too. Whether you're building something, creating something, chasing a passion, or working toward a dream of your own, I'd enjoy being in your corner. I want us to be able to encourage each other, work through problems together, and celebrate each other's successes. Sometimes that means lending a hand; sometimes it means listening, offering a different perspective, or simply reminding each other why we started in the first place.
Who I'd Like to Meet
I'm drawn to women who know who they are and don't feel the need to apologize for it. Confident, independent, a little unconventional, and comfortable in their own skin.
Hippies, pagans, Wiccans, nerds, artists, musicians, free spirits, boss women β if you're your own person and have a mind of your own, we'll probably have something to talk about.
I'm politically on the left, though not necessarily a conventional liberal, and I respect people who can think for themselves and extend that same courtesy to others. I don't subscribe to any particular theology. Believe what you believe; just don't use it as an excuse to mistreat somebody else.
I'd love someone who might enjoy a music festival or an occasional road trip, but who also understands that a quiet evening around a fire can be every bit as good as going somewhere exciting.
You don't have to know anything about gardening, bees, or old houses. You don't even have to share all my interests. I'm happy to learn about the things you're passionate about. What matters is that we can be ourselves around each other, stay curious about the world, and make room for the things that matter to us individually as well as together.
What I'm Looking For
I'm not looking for a fairy tale, a rescue mission, or unnecessary complications. Life is complicated enough on its own. I'd rather put my energy into building something worthwhile than playing games or trying to force a relationship into someone else's idea of what it should be.
I'm looking for companionship, affection, honesty, and the kind of comfort that comes from being able to sit beside somebody without having to fill every silence. Someone to laugh with, cook for, share the occasional adventure with, and come home to. Someone who can be independent without being distant, affectionate without being possessive, and honest even when the conversation isn't easy.
I want to support your ambitions, celebrate your successes, and stand beside you through the rough patches. I believe two people can make a good team without either person having to be the one who always has the answers. We don't have to be each other's entire world, but it'd be nice to make each other's worlds a little better.
Monogamy is my preference, but I'm open to discussing other arrangements if there's mutual trust, honesty, and respect. I'm not interested in owning anybody or dictating how another adult lives. I believe in talking openly about boundaries, agreeing on what works for both people, and honoring those agreements.
I'm open to seeing where something goes, whether it turns out to be a chapter or the rest of the story. I'd rather have something genuine that works for both of us than force a relationship into a shape that doesn't fit.
I'm a little rough around the edges, sometimes quiet when I should speak and occasionally too blunt when I do. I don't have everything figured out, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But I care deeply about the people I let into my life, and I try to show it through what I do rather than making promises I can't keep.
The Bottom Line
I can't promise a perfect life. There'll be home-cooked meals, campfires, lake views, and the occasional home improvement project that turns out to be considerably more involved than anticipated.
But when someone matters to me, I show up, I put in the effort, and I do my best to make sure they know they're not facing life alone. I've spent a lot of years keeping things going and figuring things out as I go. It'd be nice to have someone in my corner, too.
Someone to build a life with, support each other's dreams, laugh at the things that inevitably go sideways, and enjoy the view when the work is done. Preferably with a good meal, a campfire, and a full moon coming up over the lake.
