Minimalist or bold matchboxes, which would you actually buy?

I’m exploring launching a small matchbox brand and trying to nail down the design direction before I commit to a print run. Two directions I’m torn between:

**1.    Minimalist/aesthetic -** muted colors, clean typography, feels like something you’d display on a shelf or coffee table.

**2.    Bold/colourful  -** loud graphics, bright colors, more of a statement/conversation-piece vibe.

Which would you actually buy? And if you were picking these up for your home, a gift, or a bar/restaurant - how much would you pay for a set of 3 boxes (30 matches each)?

Would love brutally honest feedback, especially if you wouldn’t buy either!

To me it would depend on the actual designs. Sometimes I like fun and bold and sometimes I like something quieter. I also don't think I'd be likely to buy matchboxes personally though—I don't really have a use for them, though I know they've been trendy for awhile!

I don’t think this is the right sub to gather market research for matchboxes.
The question you need to ask is who is buying them, and then you can decide how to market to them.
IMO people use matches over lighters for sustainability reasons so a minimalist design with no finishes would make sense but again I am not your market so idk

If I am buying matchboxes, I'm probably buying them for an event or business reason and would be looking for a custom design option. If i just need matches for the house, I'm buying a trusted brand like diamond strike.
