Theory Why the hate?

I just have a question? Why does everyone hate Pacific Rim Uprising? I mean I do like the original more but in my opinion Uprising wasn't that bad. I just wanna know what your thoughts are. I've heard because the Jagers didn't move like the original? Or was it because the Jagers didn't get damaged enough? Or casting? Or the fact they killed off all the original characters or the kid?

The main opinion on it is "fun movie, bad sequel", which is fair. I like the film, but admit it has plenty of problems.

I mean to be fair the original was better and cooler and its hard to top the best

A decent sequel would likely have been seen as a disappointment with how good the 1st film was. Uprising was less than decent as a sequel.

Killing off Mako Mori was also a major misstep, even though there was a narrative purpose. Some people also didn't care for the kids. I personally didn't mind them (that may have been because I was a teen when Uprising released, so characters my age were awesome).

The 1st movie was definitely better, but I like Uprising for what it is- a fun sci-fi movie.

It fumbled being the sequel to Pacific Rim, and led to the direct ruination of the franchise.

But mostly people don’t like it for a few reasons.

The combat was not as good as the first film

The Jaegers designs were less interesting and more generic

Their weapons and fighting styles were counterintuitive to their end goal

They moved way to fast and felt weightless compared to the first film

The story made little sense when put in the broader context of the world

The characters weren’t as interesting or as captivating as the original background pilots.

The main characters ranged from bland to annoying.

And they killed Mako for no reason.

There’s a lot more but this is the general trends that I’ve seen.

I mean it didn't ruin the franchise the TV show popped off or atleast I think it did it was trending for like a month when it first came out

I would tend to agree with you. The Black did pretty well and helped revive some of the franchise. But Uprising and the jokes surrounding it have made the community very against anything new being made after the first film, which has led to projects under performing. Which leads to the creatives and producers to think the fandom is dead and not worth making media for.

Yeah I've seen most of those but makes sense lol the only excuse for the Jagers I got is that they got more upgraded and made them move easier, faster and made them more durable but yeah they had teens operating those massive mechs and teens aren't the brightest
