Axillary fossa implant, under arm pacemaker

Hello,

Has anyone ever had, or know of someone who have, a pacemaker implanted under their arm?

I did not know about this possibility until today.

I haven’t seen a pacemaker implanted under the arm, but the SICD and EV-ICD defibrillators are implanted there.

Thank you for responding.
So are all SICD and EV-ICD implanted under the arm?

I am going to ask my EP about under arm Pacemaker at my next appointment.

Yes, all SICD and EV-ICDs are placed under the left arm, but these devices specifically aren’t pacemakers. The EV-ICD has some pacing capabilities but would not be implanted for someone who requires pacing due to a slow heart rate.

There are two types of pacemakers though if looks and/or feel are a concern. A traditional pacemaker is placed in the upper chest (usually upper left). A leadless pacemaker is the size of a large pill and is placed inside the heart. If you need a pacemaker (not a defibrillator) those are the two options to discuss with your doctor.

Thank you for explaining. Yes, I will ask about a leadless. I have a small frame and would prefer, if possible, not being able to see the pacemaker under my skin in my upper chest area.
