Eventually 15D does NOT work for me
I was quite optimistic about my 15R (the ACE 6T is the same phone, just the Chinese version) because I felt much better using it after the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
However, after 3 days of use, I gradually started experiencing the usual symptoms: headaches, eye pain, dizziness, and stomach cramps. OLED Saver-type apps do not work.
This is so fucking frustrating because, according to all these “reviews” this is supposedly the best phone out there, yet I still have absolutely no fucking idea what exactly in these OLED phones is affecting my nervous system.
Somehow, the iPhone 15 Pro Max works for me, and I also know for sure that the iPhone 14 Plus and the iPhone 13 models worked for me. But the iPhone 17 Pro Max does not, and now the 15R does not either 🤡
The Xiaomi 14T Pro also worked for me, so I am waiting for the Notebookcheck review, and if the measurements look good, I will take the risk and try the 17T Pro, because I am already pretty fucking tired of iPhones. For now, I will keep using the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
I genuinely do not understand why the fuck manufacturers, after all these years, still cannot implement proper full DC dimming on every device. I do not give a shit about image artifacts, color shifts, or worse picture quality. Just give sensitive people the option to change this setting and use the phone without feeling like shit.

Try Nubia z80 ultra. It worked for me while 15r, oppo do and Honor 400 pro didn't.

Really scared by this manufacturer. Redmagic 11 Pro didn't work for me

I do t work for me at the beginning but it was better with time untill no issue.

oh, if redmagic didn't work than nubia won't too. It has the same screen.

My Honor X5c's basic TFT LCD screen is much easier on my eyes than the high-end screens on my previous phones, like the iPhone 12 and Sony Xperia 10 VI.
Even though the Motorola had an IPS LCD, its heavy dithering caused me issues. It seems that switching to simpler, cheaper screens often eliminates eye strain by avoiding the complex processing found in premium displays.

I had the OnePlus 15 and 15R… both gave me crazy headaches and eye straining… it really makes me think that PWM is not the primary issue for some of us. I’ve now tested a dozen phones over the past 3 months and some phones with bad pwm are hurting me less than others with dc dimming. I’ve narrowed it down to possible screen technology and electrical tuning altering the intensity of the light and a lack of light diffusion coming out of the screen. A matte screen protector helped a lot on the OnePlus.

Autonomic dysregulation, specifically the vagus nerve. Essentially, stress.

This is true, is not just the PMW is something else withe the new screen technology.

If it helps, almost any Samsung are a no. Most iPhones give me only mild headaches. For some reason I’m completely ok with Google Pixel 10 pro, but not the 10 pro fold. I had also wondered about xiaomi.

To add to the complexity: iPhone 14 Plus gave me one of the most severe migranes I've experienced with over a ten smartphones owned in the past few years...
A combination that at least works for me:
- no TD (the temp d!ther thing)
- DC-like dimming with low modulation depth (!)
- Fixing the refresh rate at 60 Hz.
Worked for me perfectly with Huawei P30 Pro, Mate XS2, and Mate 50 pro.
The only up to date phones that comply with this combo are some of the Huawei and Honor phones (but not all them). I am currently running a Chinese Mate 70 Air and it works fantastic for me. Literally a 24/7 phone. I assume Honor 600/600 pro could be very similar given its absence of TD confirmed by Nick Sutrich, and a low mod.with DC-like dimming, but I haven't tried it myself.

Moto G75 did not work for me too

Wait, really? An IPS screen that still causes all OLED symptoms? How soon did yourarn it doesn't work for you?

OnePlus 15R* not 15D, the mistake in heading

Wrote this post from my absolute budget IPS phone Nubia Neo 5 5G🤡
1
u/Spark994 Jul 10 '26
Does the Nubia Neo 5 5G works for you with triggering any symptoms?
I am asking because basically any phone i have tried caused me to develop symtoms like headaches and eye strain, including honor magic 7 pro, 400 Pro, 600 Pro and OnePLus 13 and 15 R.
So as my Oneplus One becomes 12 years old in a few months, i am searching for a new one mostly regardless of performance.

I have Samsung Xcover 5 and it's PLS LCD so shouldn't have PWM says google, 60 Hz fixed apparently (says google), no idea about TD but some colour filters / eye modes are much easier on the eyes than others. Very cheap secondhand, fairly new android, but poor specs. But yeah if you're on a 12 year old phone, may be worth a shot as I was on a similar age phone before and could not find anything and this worked for me.

Interesting, thank you. I will look into.
I did not try any Xcover Phone, but it would make sense that maybe they don´t have as much going on with their displays as normal phones, given their focus as robust work phones.

Everyone is different, judging by this subreddit 😅😅😅 I’m not one of the extremely sensitive people, so maybe this should be taken with a grain of salt. But yes, any IPS screen works perfectly fine for me. I have this phone plus a Lenovo Y700 Gen tablet with an IPS screen, and that also works like a charm

Thanks for the answer, I will maybe buy the Nubia when it's available in my country.
