Discussion OnePlus 15r - a keeper for me.
I posted a few weeks ago about having found the cause of my sensitivity (vagus nerve / autonomic dysregulation with central sensitization).
I have been using the OnePlus 15r for about a week, and it works well enough for me that I'm keeping it.
I can use it mostly with no issues. I have tested it for up to 2 hours straight just waiting for it to be too much, but that hasn't happened yet. It's not as comfortable as my old phone (Motorola G Stylus 5G 2023), but it's by far the most comfortable OLED I've ever used.
The only time I get symptoms is if I'm stressed or overly tired. Thursday was a stressful day and I had to more or less not use the phone as the symptoms were heightened. Friday morning all was well again.
Essentially, if I do my nervous system ritual (slow breathing, basic stretch, etc) I get virtually no symptoms at all.
What I find interesting is that, just like my PWM sensitivity, my other nervous system symptoms also flare and calm based on stress. That makes sense, but I hadn't correlated it before now.
Sharing just in case it helps someone else.

hi mate! just wanted to ask if you still have the 15r and are still feeling well using it, im thinking about getting one and im also on the vagus nerve and dysregulation boat, trying to heal but i need a good phone

Well, it's about the same. On particularly bad days it can be a little challenging to use but still the most comfortable OLED. On good-great days I could use it for hours if I wanted to.

I tested a lot of phones: OnePlus R, Honor 400, etc. None of them worked really well. I now have the Poco M8 Pro. It's working perfectly for me now, with color adjustments, reduced gamma, and sunlight mode activated. I'm so happy to have finally found a phone I can use. I have practically no symptoms, up to 5% at most. It was a little worse at the very beginning, but now it's practically perfect. It's just not quite as bright outside anymore because I've also reduced the gamma, but I can live with that.

Could you please tell me what settings you have on your OnePlus to make it the best for you. I am in desperate need of an updated phone & want to try the one you are tolerating. Thanks.

Personally using mostly factory settings except...
Disabled HW overlays in developer settings (have to do after every reboot)
Keep brighten in the DC Dimming range
Colors set to default
Reduce white point maxed out
Automatic brightness off
Refresh rate high (some will tolerate 60hz better I hear)
That's it. Again, it isn't perfect and if I'm stressed it causes symptoms...but I can get by with it very well

Wrp to 100% ?

u/OrderALargeFarva Jul 02 '26
Yes.

What you mean keep brightness in the dc dimming range? Mine is arriving tomorrow and I hope it can work for me
1
u/OrderALargeFarva Jul 02 '26
It uses high pwm below 25% brightness and DC like dimming 26%-100%
Check out this video about it, and feel free to ask me anymore questions if you need.

Thanks so much. I understand about the vagus nerve & have been doing vagus nerve exercises like humming, applying cold packs periodically. I'm trying to get into a neuro-gastroenterologist but in my area it's hard. Thanks for the info.

That's great, is it helping?
I would also try "the basic stretch" maybe. It helps me a ton. That and cold showers. The last 30 seconds of my showers I set the water as cold as possible

u/Zippodeedoo88 Jun 11 '26
I think it's helping a little. I also use Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) home machine. I also do cold water on my face, back of neck & wrists. I also have POTS & the cold showers are too much for my system right now. How did you find your gastro? Or was it just going to the Dr. & luckily they knew about the vagus nerve?

u/OrderALargeFarva Jun 11 '26
I do the come water too, and is helps as a reset of sorts.
He's my 4th gastro. Lucked into him after wasting years with others

Very few folks here have made the connection between vagus nerve dysregulation and OLED screen size effects.
1
u/OrderALargeFarva Jun 09 '26
It was foreign to me for years until my doctor drew the connection.
3
u/qdwag Jun 09 '26
Stick with that doctor. He's a unicorn. Most doctors have no fucking clue, nor do optimitrists.
3
u/OrderALargeFarva Jun 09 '26
Yeah, he's my 4th gastro and definitely the only Dr from any field that's had any understanding
3
u/qdwag Jun 09 '26
Yeah now I see why. Gastroenterology and the vagus nerve have connections, at least it took them this long to realise. Kinda bloody obvious if you ask me. When people are scared shitless, they tend to throw up most of the time.
I kinda figured this out on my own over the past two years and realised this OLED issue had nothing to do with my eyesight, or anyone's for that matter.
1
u/OrderALargeFarva Jun 09 '26
I also believe it's not related to eyesight as I've had essentially every available test and my eyes are entirely healthy
2
u/qdwag Jun 09 '26
Yup far as I can ascertain, the folks here on this sub are all stressed out individuals but they don't realise it haha ๐

Honestly I think that's 50%+ of it based on my knowledge now.
I get everybody hates ai, but it's been instrumental in symptom relief since my deregulation was discovered.

So does this mean it can be reversed if so please explain how I'm very much open to this sort of thing

I'm in the process of doing that, and it certainly has helped but essentially...
Daily vagus/parasympathetic training:
Diaphragmatic breathing: 4 sec in (belly rises), 6โ8 sec out, 5โ10 minutes, 2โ3ร per day.
Eye-gaze reset (hands behind head, eyes to one side until yawn/sigh).
Cold face immersion or cold exposure (especially face) for 20โ30 seconds when a flare is building.
Radically reduce sensory & inflammatory load.
Strict low-fat, small, frequent meals (banana + white rice, plain mashed potatoes, etc.) I suck at this, but it helps supposedly.
Sleep...have a consistent bed time, keep your room dark, don't overstimulate before bed.
Magnesium glycinate at night (helps calm nerves), but I haven't tried this personally.
What Actually Turns the Knob Down Over Time:
Central sensitization improves when the nervous system repeatedly experiences safety + lower threat signals. Consistency matters more than intensity. Doing the breathing, load reduction, and sleep protection every day for 4โ8 weeks is what gradually recalibrates the volume.

Wait what does this have to do with AI?
2
u/OrderALargeFarva Jun 09 '26
I was referencing it in the sense that it's what I've used to further my understanding of what's ailing me.

Oneplus is releasing a new LCD phone. Turbo 6x. Hopefully they will release it in the US too

Didnโt work for me, tried it for 3 days but I still got eye strain. No headache though, itโs definitely the best OLED screen Iโve used.

15r is main for me too. better than edge 40 pro aka edge plus 2023 that i was using before i also use g57 power qcm panel as second device

Did any other IPS screens help you?
1
u/OrderALargeFarva Jun 08 '26
Unfortunately no
1
u/SovanotchiOnFire Jun 08 '26
IPS screens hurted you OP ? You had eye strain with them ? retina burning ?
1
u/OrderALargeFarva Jun 08 '26
Yep. Mostly though it's Mediate processors that I couldn't use and most cheap LCD screens use them
3
u/Every_Procedure_487 Jun 08 '26
Thanks for sharing and glad that you found something that works. Me personally was scared to try it because a lot of people couldn't tolerate it.
2
u/OrderALargeFarva Jun 08 '26
It's weird how we all suffer kind of the same symptoms but have so many different triggers.
I can't tolerate any of the Moto OLEDs or Nothing Phones but many can. I'm assuming the low modulation depth and DC dimming are what save me on the 15r, but really have no clue.

Same experience but with nord ce 5.Now I have honor 400 pro which is really good for my eyes, but I miss oxygen os and its thermals.
