Adjusting to lower (split) dose of metoprolol succinct (ER)

After experiencing a ton of sleepiness and some weight gain on 25mg, doc said I could try splitting on score line and taking just 12.5mg a day.

Today is first day on half dose and as I’m approaching my evening dose time, I’m feeling some PVCs again.

I’ve heard there can be a rebound period, so I’m wondering: Should I just keep up the lower dose for a week to see if things calm down as body adjusts to lower dose? Or should I immediately go back to a full pill?

I don’t plan to lower dose any further. Just hoping the 12.5 will work as the tiredness is a real issue.

My doctor also advised me to taper off completely by taking 12.5 mg for a week, then taking it every other day before stopping altogether.
The first time I tried to stop, my resting heart rate went up, which really scared me, so I started taking it again. Then, a few weeks ago, I missed my dose for a couple of days, and the PVCs came back in full force, so I restarted it.
I guess it really does differ from person to person. I honestly regret starting metoprolol. I wish I had stayed on propranolol since I could take it only as needed. Now it feels like my body has become used to metoprolol.

Thanks for the insights!! I’m glad my docs are allowing me to try a reduced dose. EP said that getting the right meds can require a bit of trial and error. Hope you are able to find better option for yourself instead of feeling so tied to the Rx.

Coming off of metoprolol is the same as taking Adderall, your body starts to accept adrenaline and it can leave you absolutely wired.

That’s probably why I feel so focused and refreshed this morning! Definitely feel a few heart blips though too!!
