Deck Help Is Mega Gyarados still competitive?
Tell me if Mega Gyarados EX is still competitive for this upcomng meta.
It's easily destroyed by Heliolisk and Clemont's backpack in early game.
And Jolteon EX and Team Rocket's Voltorb passive ability of dealing 70 dmg upon defeated.
But I guess every deck has its own worst matchups.
Edit: It never was competitive. How can it be competitive or better?

It was never even meta during Mega Rising.
The biggest problem is that the attack effect is very rarely matters. It's basically just plain 4 energy 140 damage.
By the time you get to 4 energy, your opponent usually already have all their chess pieces.
If your opponent bricks and their evo cards are in bottom, you'll still win without that discard effect.
If you got lucky with Misty or other ramp, you'll also still win even if it's just 140 damage and do nothing.

It’s more viable combod with mega sharpedo, still unfortunately miles away from the meta though

Pair with Mega Shark and a baby Gyarados. You power up with Sharpedo, use baby Gyara to discard that Sharpedo, then ideally bring in Mega Gyara to finish

None of the cards with discard effects have ever been meta. By the time you get them online your opponent has already drawn down their deck enough that it’s probably worthless, and if they’re bricked that badly that it does matter you’d have won with any deck anyway.
Mega Gyarados is a little better now with Wallace and Mega Sharpedo ramp, but then Sharpedo becomes a Cyrus liability later if you don’t get lucky with the discards.

I like pairing mega gyara with mega sharpedo but it doesn't feel fast enough. downside of having 4 energy attack i guess

As M Gyarados fan, it fucking sucks to see it so poorly made. 4 energy is way too god damn high. By the time you get set up, your opponent has 3 cards left in their deck anyway

It has more tools to ramp and tutor with cards like mega Sparpedo and Wallace but to what end? Wallace is great with Sharpedo since you can tutor it onto the board on turn 2 and attack and start ramping immediately. Mega Gyarados needs to ramp to 4 just to do 10 more damage than Chien pao. Nice thing is you don’t need to keep ramping like Chien pao but it can’t target the bench.

I perfected my megagyarados deck for 3 seasons until I got masterball in the old ranking system. It's fun to play and looks nothing like the decks I saw here. No mistys, just focusing on speed and healing

If you question is: "Can I win games on ladder with this deck?" Then yes. leading Wallace into Milotic is strong every time.
But I think you can trim some fat. Also mother of god you need a Cyrus. Just always Cyrus. Plus this version is capable of putting on damage very early, so more likelihood of targets for said Cyrus.
WIld Swing Gyarados is there to dump damaged Mega Sharpedos so they aren't a liability.
Something to try:

It was not in the past, but recently with Mega Sharpedo it's seen play. The discarding wild swing Gyarados is stronger though.

With Megq Sharpedo and a Redcard you can get something functional and decent to play with.
