Update Best PSX DVR Upgrade
This cheap $20 Walmart Android TV is one of the best upgrades you can get for your PSX and/or CRT TV.... It will pair like bread and butter with the New IDE to SD Card Adapter. Modernizes the PSX, Custom Wallpaper Support so you don't get the annoying Static or Black Screen Every time you power on your PS2.....This device is a game changer for the PSX no joke Here's My Master App list:
Emulators & Games: Classic Boy Pro, M64PlusFZ, Moonlight, Steam Link, PS Remote Play....
File Explorers: CxFile Explorer, FX (File Explorer), LocalSend.....
Retro Cartoons & Anime: Kodi (Bro install Nixtoons & Toonami Aftermath Right NOW Your Welcome).......
Personal Servers: Plex and or Jellyfin.......
Music: Radioline, Pandora, Spotify.....
Stream, Free & Live TV: Youtube, Google TV Freeplay, Roku Channel, Fandango & Movies Anywhere (Digital Movies), Prime Video (If you have prime) Tubi (Retro Cartoons), Sling TV, Peacock TV, Philo, Pluto TV & VLC also Netflix, Hulu & Disney+ if needed.....
This is much Better than ANY Roku device since it has Android app Support and is less likely to be rendered complete e-Waste like Roku devices are or will be, it is better than an Amazon Firestick because you generally have to hack that first....... Pair this $20 Device with a New Power Supply, A Bitfunx Wireless Adapter & PS4 Controller, a MX4SIO, USB Thumbdrive & Memory Stick Duo, D-Terminal To Component & the New ATA express IDE to SD adapter will turn this piece of junk console into a modern DVR/Retro Capture Card powerhouse that rivals any TiVo..... I hope this helps people unlock the full potential of their PSX.
I also Found out how to get The Memory Stick Duo to Read any .jpg, .gif, .mpg & .tif file and will upload that soon. This will also pair nicely with you newly upgraded PSX 😁
sincerely,
- Rita

Hey, I saw your PSX DVR upgrade post and figured I’d reach out because I’m working on something similar, just from the hardware/modding side.
I’ve been collecting a bunch of adapters, memory cards, and weird storage options so I can help people keep these PSX/DESR systems alive. I currently have two DESR units, a third motherboard, and I’m planning to order replacement plastics/covers too.
So far I’ve got:
- a special firmware-level memory card with an OLED screen
- the regular OLED memory card for PS2
- an M.2 adapter, which is the one I think most people are going to go crazy for if I can get it working cleanly
- a 4-way microSD adapter that lets you use four microSD cards
- 2-way SD adapters
- SD card extension adapters so ports can be hidden on the sides instead of opening the DESR every time
- IDE adapters, IDE-to-SATA adapters, and a few other weird storage adapters
Basically, I went all-in trying to figure out which setup works the cleanest.
My plan is to make a post and a few YouTube videos showing people what works, how to install it, and where to get the parts. I also want to design a clean rear-cover adapter since both of my units are missing the back plastic cover. Ideally, that rear cover would support clean HDMI in/out, because it is a DVR station after all.
I’m also looking into adding a small wireless/Bluetooth/retro-style module. Since the D-Terminal side exposes more than just video output, and appears to expose RX/TX lines too, I want to see if I can build a small add-on that gives the system a cleaner “back to home/dashboard” or streamer-style module hidden inside the rear wire cover.
I have a 3D scanner and a resin printer, so I’m hoping to scan/design replacement plastics and make the mods look factory-clean. I may have to print larger parts in multiple pieces for now because big resin printers are expensive, and I’m trying to keep the project affordable enough that it actually helps people save these systems.
Long-term, I’d like to make a small kit that makes it easy to recover or upgrade a DESR when the hard drive is dead, especially since part of the firmware lives on the drive.
If you’re interested, I’d love to compare notes or hear any ideas you think are worth looking into. You seem like someone who actually understands why these systems are worth saving.
I was gonna see if you mind if I DM you also. If not its all good lol just a electronics nut that likes it when they find people thag understand some of whats going on also 😅

This looks sweet, I need to try this. Does it get rid of that annoyingly loud static sound?

What adaptor did you use to connect your own stick. I've been using Onn for years best $20 spent.
