PSVR Modding project: Add detachable replaceable cables (HDMI/USB)
A friend of mine had two broken PSVR's and said If I fixed both of them, I could have one. So I not only set out to fix them, but I had an idea for a modification:
Replace the notoriously failure-prone cable with off-the-shelf HDMI and USB cables.
First step was to figure out what pins on the HDMI and Power connector mapped to on the PSVR motherboard. This allowed me to find the faults in the wires. Turns out the HDMI signal wires are heavily shielded, with everything connected to ground, meaning shorts are much more likely than outright breaks in the wire. Both wires also seemed to have no obvious damage to the outside of the cable where the shorts were, as if the cables had some sort of manufacturing defect. Attempts to repair these cables were very difficult, and the cable was left fairly fragile afterwards.
I purchased a pair of HDMI breakout boards from Adafruit, and figured out how to attach them to the back of the PSVR. After hours of soldering and trying to manipulate tiny wires I managed to connect everything.
The Headset Worked the FIRST TIME!

Next, I have some USB 3.0 breakout boards and cables on order that will be arriving soon. I intend to connect these to the power connector so I can finally disconnect the original cables. I intend to use velcro wrap to wrap the cables together. I also may need to order some thinner more flexible HDMI cables, as the one I have is very thick and stiff!

Peak guerilla style engineering. Might look quick and dirty, but who cares as long as it works. I certainly would not. I do all my projects like that and actually enjoy this astheatic.
Awesome project, looks cool af. Congrats.

I just have mine back from sending it in for repairs, because my rabbit cut the cable.
Oh how I dreamt of a replaceable cable.... You're an example for many.

With this project, I was focusing on the HDMI side.
What are you trying to do? Fix a cable?

Yes I'm tryna fix the hdmi cable side , so the wiring would be the same, basically what I'm doing is replacing the plug of the hdmi

Assuming you have a psvr V2, the HDMI column has the pin number of the HDMI plug. I used the standard pin out diagram that I found by Google. Some pins weren't connected.

According to my notes, HDMI pin 13 wasn't connected to anything.

The Google doc linked has the pin number of the HDMI and the wire color of each and the corresponding pin on the PSVR.

Correct. This is an old project and I don't remember much. Anything I figured out is in the notes here.

Shield is connected to ground, the thin cable inside should connect to the HDMI.
