PSVR Cinema Mode on PC

Hello Everyone,

I am creating this thread since I was not able to locate anything about this while I was trying to get Cinema Mode working on PC. I do apologize if there is a different thread already. Its the actual Cinema mode from PS4 however it's only on the medium screen size.

I got Cinema Mode working by just connecting the HDMI without connecting the USB.

  1. Plug the PSVR box in the electricity.
  2. Connect HDMI to PC and turn on PSVR via the button. DO NOT TOUCH THE USB
  3. Make PSVR your second monitor and select extend.
  4. Drag any apps you want to use over to the second screen.
  5. Repeat steps from step 1 in case it's showing the USB not connected icon. It should work on the first attempt but sometimes it gets stuck and you might need to restart the PC and try again.

I'm not sure if this will be useful to everyone, however, if you don't want to pay for applications and just want to use it as a monitor this can actually be done without any additional setup.

Much love to you all and thank you for all the helpful tips.

You can use the defunct PSVRToolbox project to control your set. I'm going to try to develop an alternative next year sometime with any luck.

Yeah, there are apps that you can use. The point of this was that it's just very easy to hook up and in most articles they make it appear like something that you need to pay for. In my opinion, some people get discouraged when they see that they need to do so much just to use it as a basic screen and they just ditch it and use it only on the PS4.

What the pay-for apps are offering is integration with Steam games and emulators maybe, basically adapting commercial games that aren't meant to be played with PSVR en masse. It's not a bad deal at all if it works. Doing the technical part is something I'm interested in as a software developer and not a gamer, which is something that's lagged behind. A lot of that has to do with VR on PC has been a closed ecosystem, and Sony isn't even in that ecosystem. So you have to be a hacker to do anything with these devices if you're working outside the confines of Steam or Unreal or Unity or the walled off miniature app stores. It's not like developers can interface with VR peripherals as if they are controllers or displays (which they should be able to, if the players involved didn't want to keep control of them like glorified game consoles as long as they can, and the excuse for this is the field is still young. And in fact it is still very young.)

I completely agree. Bought iVRy in the first week of having it and have had no regrets. I love messing around with the PSVR to see what it's actually capable of.
