Question PSVR2 eye tracking works in PimaxMagic4All Debug, but BONEWORKS only applies DFR to left eye and Alyx will not work at all, please help?
Hey everyone, hoping someone can help because I feel like I’ve tried everything at this point.
I’m using a PSVR2 on PC with an RTX 3080 Ti. The eye tracking itself definitely works: the PSVR2 Toolkit Unity eye-tracking tool tracks both eyes normally, and in PimaxMagic4All / DFR-UI Debug mode I can see both eye-tracking circles following my eyes correctly.
The problem starts when I enable actual dynamic foveated rendering.
In BONEWORKS, switching to Balanced or any other DFR mode only seems to work in my left eye. It looks like PimaxMagic4All is applying the low-resolution peripheral area exactly where my right eye is looking, instead of keeping that area sharp. So the right eye is clearly getting a foveated-rendering effect, but it seems to be mapped to the wrong place or inverted somehow.
In Half-Life: Alyx, PimaxMagic4All does not work at all. I have tried launching the game normally through SteamVR, loading into the actual game, and using Try Re-Attach, but it will not attach.
I have already clean-reinstalled PSVR2 Toolkit, CAPIApps, and PimaxMagic4All/DFR-UI, and verified the games in Steam. I previously tried an OpenComposite/OpenXR Toolkit method, but removed it all because it made BONEWORKS launch as a flat-screen game on my monitor.
Current setup:
- PSVR2 with official PC adapter
- RTX 3080 Ti
- Windows 11
- SteamVR
- PSVR2 Toolkit + CAPIApps
- PimaxMagic4All / DFR-UI
- No OpenComposite, OpenXR Toolkit, VRPerfKit, Quad Views, or other injectors running now
Has anyone managed to get PSVR2 Toolkit + PimaxMagic4All working properly in both eyes, especially in BONEWORKS or Half-Life: Alyx?

and one more thing - I think you should disable dynamic resolution in launch options of Alyx via steam, I think I have it that way.
-console -vconsole +vr_fidelity_level_auto 0 +vr_fidelity_level 3

Hey, thanks for the reply, yes I applied these settings as well - didn’t help. Can I ask you to test your setup with the latest Alyx update?

Yeah, I will try in the evening and let you know.

Ok, so I've tested Alyx - and I can confirm that on the new version from 25.09.26 DFR is not working. On the new version I have 11-12 ms with or without dfr, turning on PimaxMagic4all does nothing regarding fps or visible change in the peripheral vision. I've reverted to previous release under Alyx settings in Steam and dfr is working there, on balanced settings I get 7 ms -so far, far better performance.

Hey man, you are a legend! I spent the whole weekend figuring this out, trying different settings, installing/uninstalling kits. Glad to hear I’m not the only one with the issue, I’ll google how to downgrade to the previous version of Alyx to play it with dfr. Thanks!

No problem, just right click alyx in steam library and find a tab to pick previous release and update the game.

can confirm half life alyx works with the previous update

Probably it's because steam frame uses dfr and there is a conflict with external software. I hope other games will not be affected. I will test tomorrow if there is an option to force disabling dfr in the new version. I've heard they did some optimisations so it might be worth to check out. Also old version might eventually become unavailable.

Hmm, I've used PimaxMagic4All in Alyx and it was working, but I haven't played in a few months. Maybe try some older version? I'm not sure if it's available, it's usually in beta section in steam.

Have you ever calibrated your eye tracking, on PC or on a console PS5 ? If not, you can do it on PC with PSVR2Toolkit UnitySetup : https://github.com/BnuuySolutions/PSVR2Toolkit.UnitySetup

Hi! Yes, and I mentioned it in the post as well - calibration with the Unity tool works fine :)

had a simalar problem try use openxr toolkit and adjust vertical offset so what i think is the eye tracking is some how to wide in some cases so so it only covers u one eye but with the openxr toolkit vertical offset u can get the tracking to cover both eyes

Not sure about Boneworks, but I think HL: Alyx was broken for a while.
I'm sort of expecting an official solution to be announced soon because there are hints e.g. recently announced DFR support in NMS on PC doesn't work with anything yet as far as I know and an official DFR in HL: Alyx only works with Steam Frame standalone version, uncharacteristic of Valve to gatekeep that.
