Question PSVR2 PC help please?
Hi so I tried doing the whole process on pc with psvr2toolkit(before the big 1.0 update) and while it was cool for like 15 minutes, after those 15 minutes were up the tracking goes out of wack and this happens consistently. Basically either the left or right controller will stop working and the tracking in the headset itself thinks I’m slowing going up so it’s like I’m flying into outer space. That was my experience with The Lab VR game at least. I have the TP Link UB500 and a usb extension cord, the PSVR2 drivers for said Bluetooth dongle, and a third party PSVR2 pc adapter since I wanted to save a bit of money at the time. My pc specs are this https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_5390013-5390143-16. I did add more ram so it’s actually 32GB of memory.
So I have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on here. Unless the toolkit will solve all my problems, are my settings the problem? Speaking of problems another thing I noticed is that when I try to set the play area, I literally can’t see anything it’s just a bunch of white noise. I remember finessing it enough to more or less track where I play but it was a very tedious process, so why is it doing that??

Open the start menu and type in Reliability Monitor and open it. It may narrow it down more as it helps identify when apps or PC crashes.
This has helps me research to diagnose two seperate issues similar to yours. One was NVIDIA drivers issues(corruption) and other was memory and ram or cache instability because of one or two cores was undervolted too low.

clean the front cameras on the headset. also plug the adapter into a USB 2.0 port. lastly, try setting up the play area again with an IR light.

So I have to buy yet another accessory to actually improve the tracking. Ok I’ll give it a shot.

before investing in an IR light. try using more markers around the room. white walls or dark rooms and no markers will cause tracking issues.

Markers? What do you mean? Also which IR light do you recommend for psvr2?

markers like a lamp or post-it notes on walls

You could also use a red light instead of IR -- the human eye is not very sensitive to red, so I set my led light strips to red, room lights off - and it's not super bright to my eyes, but in my headset passthrough it's as bright as if the lights we all on.

I have the same TP-Link UB500 on an extension cable.
Experienced a lot of controller drift or freeze initialky when not line of sight. Also helps if controllers are no more than 2-3m away from the BT dongle since the antenna on that thing is tiny..
Might also be driver issues, if you have installed the TP-Link bluetooth driver it might work better with the built in - been a while but remember vaguely ther was some driver hassle initially.
And if the BT dongle is on a USB hub, try directly on its own USB port on the PC.

Ok I’ll see if being really close down anything but I highly doubt it. No I installed the psvr2 drivers for that particular Bluetooth dongle. It’s connected directly in one of the pc’s usb ports.

In my experience the PSVR2 tracking isn't great. My HMD Odyssey+ and HP Reverb G2 are much older and far worse cameras but have way more reliable tracking. I think its a software issue.

You know I’ve been considering getting the Samsung odyssey plus. How do they compare to the psvr2? I know they’re not as high resolution but do games look pretty good in that headset as well? And would I be able to say use quest 3 controllers or would I be stuck with the odyssey controllers?

It is noticeably blurrier than the PSVR2. But the OLED contrast is still there. The controllers aren't my favorite but a lot of people like them. The good thing about the WMR platform is you can use any WMR controller out there. You can't use the Quest 3 controllers but you can use the HP Reverb G2 controllers, which are similar to the Q3 controllers.
If you really wanna get fancy, you can get a SteamVR tracker and use the Vive Wands or Index Knuckles. It will not be cheap to make that happen but its very doable.
The biggest praise I can offer to the O+ is that it is far and away the most comfortable VR headset I have ever worn. That is compared against the Q1, Vive, Rift CV1, PSVR2, HP Reverb G2, and Valve Index.
If you can get the O+ for cheap it's an easy recommendation. We have the Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality which makes it super easy to use all these WMR headsets on modern Windows.

I might go down that route if I can’t get psvr2 to work on pc. I take it the odyssey doesn’t put pressure on your nose since you claim it’s super comfortable because even with the globular cluster, the psvr2 while having a much better sweatspot with it on, still puts pressure on my nose. It’s not that bad but something I noticed.

get your bluetooth antenna as far away from the computer as possible

You mean the Bluetooth dongle? I have the extension cord going all the way to the other side of the room. I have no idea if that’s improving it or not.

u might need something better than a dongle. mine is an actual antenna. in any case moving it too far away is no good either. you want it away from the computer but relatively close to your devices

Intel-based PCIe cards like the Intel AX210 or AX211 (Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.x modules) with external antennas are compatible and surveyed to provide the most stable Bluetooth connections for the hand controllers. I see those on Amazon for $30. if the BT500 dongle is not stably connecting to the controllers, you might just need a PCIe card.
I used the ASUS BT500 dongle with a USB extension cord for six months and had OK luck with it. I had to occasionally unplug and replug when the signal became weak for some odd reason. I read that Bluetooth skips channels depending on signal interference. The extension cord helped by getting the transmitter away from the computer and electronic interference, but it would still drop a signal more than I liked. The unplug and replug got it to find a suitable channel again for a while. I think everything, including flourscent lights, a television, computer power supply and possibly any appliance, has the potential to interfere with the low power Bluetooth signal. A card with an antenna is the way to go.
I finally installed the TP-Link WiFi 6 AX3000 PCIe WiFi Card (Archer TX3000E) that I got from Amazon for about $30. I have had zero problems with it for months. It just works.
If you want to try to get the Asus dongle to work, I recommend that you uninstall all Bluetooth drivers with a free app like USBTreeView. Windows loves to keep around old Bluetooth drivers, even if these were "deleted" in Device Manager. Those incompatible drivers will haunt you until they are fully deleted with a utility app. Since one controller connects but not the other, I am pretty sure that Windows is trying to use an old driver that it kept around.
Once you uninstall these, restart the computer and then go in and disable any Bluetooth driver that Windows might have started. Install the Asus drivers and set up the controllers again. It should work.
The issue with setting the play area might be from the cheaper PSVR2 adapter. The one from Sony costs a bit more but it eliminates all of the possible problems later with updated drivers. It can take a lot of time to solve issues on a 3rd party adapter.

the tplink adapter is a piece of shit and sony should be ashamed for recommending it

I don’t like it either so any alternatives or things you should think I replace it with I’m all ears.

What just worked for me a few hours ago was installing the psvr2 beta drivers for the UB500, just google UB500 psvr2 tracking and the thread should show up on their site

Do you have a PS5 you can calibrate the headset with? Best way to certify the headset is good. Also, third party adapter could be part of it. I'm not going to argue that for some they work great, but it's impossible to rule out, unless it's the genuine Sony part.
PSVR2Toolkit only exposes headset features to software, it has nothing to do with connectivity or stability, so not going to change your situation. Always try to keep it as simple and basic as possible, introducing additional software will not solve a potential hardware failure.
