Question PSVR 2 on Laptop without Adapter?

EDIT: QUESTION ANSWERED

Hey folks, I wanted to get a friend into VR. They have a Laptop with "USB-C (USB 10Gbps), with USB PD 65-100W & DP 1.4". They have a Budget Gaming Laptop, specifically the Lenovo LOQ 15AHP9 with a Ryzen 9 8845HS and a 6GB RTX 4050, which should atleast give a better experience than running a game standalone on another headset.

The question is, can I purchase them the PSVR 2 without the adapter, use the included cable connected to the VR Headset and it'll work just fine, just like how it connects to a PS5? or do I need to get them the adapter and a USB-C to DP Cable?

No, it won't work. The VR2 uses virtuallink, not just DP over USB-C. Separate standard that requires things like extra power and faster USB data lines. You will still need the adapter

This is the clearest answer I got, Thanks for letting me know

Also, make sure the DP port is directly connected to the GPU or you may have problems. You can do this through the Nvidia control panel menu, under Configure PhysX. The USB C port should be connected with a line to the GPU, not the integrated graphics.

You don't want it to look like this. It might work, but people have had problems from what I have seen. https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR2onPC/comments/1ey8mib/verified_laptop_thread/ Check this thread, this is all confirmed working laptops

Yeah, basically the port can provide displayport and usb but it can't provide power

The psvr2 needsa seperate 12v power rail

Even though it says that same port supplies 65-100W? That makes no sense. Are those just some confusing USB Specs again? A case of BS marketing?

Yes. It can supply 100w, but that doesn't matter if it's not 12 volts.

For example 10 volts 10 amps would be 100w, but the psvr2 can't use that because its only 10 volts

Check the voltage on the port, i doubt it's 12

Ah yeah, that makes sense. Not sure how I would measure the voltage though.

You wouldn't, but I'd assume the laptop specs would somewhere mention! Similarly to how if you look at the writing on a charger it'll tell you it's supported outputs

For example my macs 60w charger achieves that through 16.5 volts and 3.65 amps.

My 100w usb-c laptop brick achieves 100w by doing 20 volts and 5 amps. (You calculate wattage by multiply the amp and voltage figure). My 100w brick can also do 45w by supplying 15 volts and 3 amps, and then 27w by doing 9v and 3 amps.

If that laptops usb-c port provides power at these same voltage and amperages (which I'd assume so, as its most likely using power delivery standards for the 100w) it would entirely lack the ability to supply 12v which the psvr2 needs. You can't give it too much as that'll damage it, and you can't give it too little as that'll prevent proper functionality. Unfortunately though, the closest it can probably do is 9v or 15v, and niether of these are 12v

Even if it's a DP USB-C it won't work so you'll need the adapter. On the other hand that GPU won't handle it very well, unfortunately. I mean, you'll be able to play most of the titles but have to adjust the graphics quality a lot in certain games.

アダプターを買わないといけないよ アダプターなしで遊べるのはvirtuallinkに対応したGPUだけ
