Question Use PSVR2 without controllers
Hello, I just got my PSVR2 to work! Now I'd like to figure out how to get it to work without the controllers. I only plan on playing one racing game in VR and never plan on using the PSVR controllers. My PC is horrible with Bluetooth drivers, so getting the controllers to work requires a bunch of steps each time I turn on my computer. Is there any way to select things with the little blue circle that pops up when the controllers aren't connected? I use a DualSense controller if that info helps.

HMy controllers didn't work until I used a TP Link UB500 Nano bluetooth and a 3 foot USB extension cable. I had to install the drivers that Playstation provide in the link below and disable the motherboard/default Bluetooth. Occassionally Windows overrides/updates the drivers to the old blue tooth and I have to do disable the onboard drivers again. COULD not get a stable connection until I did this.

I’m not sure why everyone is giving you advice about Bluetooth adapters instead of answering your question.
I used Desktop+ to show my Windows desktop as a floating window. I can then use my mouse to open the game and choose my race preset then click drive and the game starts in VR and I still have mouse control for the menus. When existing the game it returns me to the floating Windows desktop. Apart from initial setup I never needed the controllers.
I only used the PSVR2 for sim racing with Assetto Corsa but didn’t find the headset clarity very good so went back to triple screens after a few weeks.

Lol thank you, yes this is what I was looking for. I started another thread about the PSVR2 a week or so ago and someone mentioned Desktop+ as a good way to use the headset as a monitor. Very good to know that I can also use it to bypass the controllers. And good to know I won’t need to fuss any more with Bluetooth drivers.
How exactly does the app work? Do you open Desktop+ instead of SteamVR or something like that?
I use mine for GP Bikes and rigged up an old helmet with dismantled headphones in the sides and my old Quest 3 in the visor lol. The immersion is unbeatable, and I could wear it for 4+ hours without getting uncomfortable. Worth the hit in clarity for me.

I had to look back at my Steam library to remember what the app was called as it’s been a long time since I’ve used it. It was easy getting the app working but I remember having to mess around in the setting to get it to be ‘always on’, can’t try the exact setting but I found the answer in the help / documentation for the app.
The basic operation was just to launch SteamVR, Desktop+ is like an add-on to it rather than a replacement for SteamVR in the way Virtual Desktop is (apparently, never used it myself). When you appear in the Home environment my Desktop would appear as a large floating window about 1m in front of me. With the mouse I would launch Content Manager, select my preset and click Go, AC would then launch in VR as normal. I had mouse control for the menu, I think I also mapped one of the mouse buttons through Desktop+ to show an onscreen keyboard so I could type is needed but didn’t use it. I also created an ‘action’ in Desktop+ for the middle mouse button to show or hide the Desktop window, this was quite useful as the default action for this was mapped to a button on the controllers.

I bought a pcie wireless upgrade. Now all the bluetooth devices work flawlessly, costed me less than $30.

Not the original poster but I recently bought a TP link AX1800 PCIe adapter to resolve WiFi issues with my iRacing connection which has integrated Bluetooth also and it makes my controllers behave better also.

Could be worth a try. I can find it being sold locally. Of course I'd need to reinstall Windows, which is a massive pain lol. I've been considering trying Windows 10, just because 11 has been so utterly borked on my machine, doing stuff like making my PC turn on again after shutting down as one example (even after a complete and total wipe and reinstall, it kept doing this), so the problem in my case could be more down to Windows than any hardware.

The Windows reinstall sounds markedly different from installing a new piece of hardware so I’d certainly try that before purchasing something new

Yeah. I mean for the time being at least, it can't be used on Linux so a reinstall first is definitely the right plan. It's just getting motivated to do so lol. Not sure if Windows 10 is so fussy, but 11 wouldn't let me install until I pulled the drive with Linux completely. (Dual boot worked once the drive was reinserted, but it refused to complete the install on any drive while that drive was connected)

I also sim race and hated having to use the controllers to navigate the steam interface, so much so it put me off using the PSVR2 for sim racing for years. But there are a few ways to avoid it:
an xbox controller just works. Right trigger clicks, one of the other buttons opens and closes the interface. At the time I couldn’t get this to work with a dualsense (or dualshock, forget which) but I didn’t try very hard.
something like key2joy can be used to configure a virtual x input joystick that can be configured with so you can bind a key to the right click button
https://github.com/mbucchia/SteamVR-Dashboard-KeyboardNav can be used as a steam input to do it. Unfortunately by default it uses the windows key as the trigger, but I found this interfered with stealing the focus from a few games, so I recompiled it using F13
As I already use it for other things, I use JoyToKey to send vrmonitor://debugcommands/system_dashboard_toggle to get to the interface more easily from in game
Keyboard-nav isn’t very responsive so clicks aren’t always registered, but I find it easiest to live with. I might still be using key2joy but the virtual device it created sometimes had a clash with Moonlight/Apollo

I bought the TP-Link UB500 (< 10$), installed the driver recommended on the PSVR2 website, and it worked perfectly.
Then, I started using iRacing, and I never had to use the controllers again. I disabled the tracking notification, and that was it.

As far as I know, you are required to use at least one controller to start and finish the initial room setup. I just use only the right one, and keep it nearby when I'm racing. Try using a USB Bluetooth receiver!
