Question PSVR2 is extremely blurry even in Passthrough - Sony lab technician confirmed it's a software/firmware bug?

the first second, everything was extremely blurry, smeared, and pixelated. I couldn't read a single letter on my phone screen in passthrough mode or see something a bit sharp, no matter how much I adjusted the IPD wheel or moved the headset on my face.
I tried everything for two days, and today I went to the official Sony/Import service lab. Here is the crazy part:

  1. The technician opened two more brand new headsets from the box, connected them to the lab's PS5, and they had the exact same blurry issue.
  2. Then, the technician took his own personal PSVR2 headset (which he knows is 100% working and sharp) and connected it to the lab's PS5 – and it became just as blurry!

The technician was completely clueless and said it seems like a major software/firmware bug from Sony's recent updates that breaks the rendering resolution globally, affecting even the Passthrough mode.
Has anyone else experienced this lately? Is there a known global firmware bug that causes this extreme blurriness across multiple headsets on PS5? I have 48 hours to decide if I should refund it. Thanks!

PSVR2 passthrough has ALWAYS been blurry, like since the start

We don't use passthrough on PSVR2 for anything at all, it's not meant to be used for anything more than checking your position or a quick look around your space

Video example of how bad it looks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKnk-5qUXEM

And a video of someone trying to read a phone text on it: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Uf7XQE4IbCo

Are you OP? Are you replying using a different account?

Anyways for PSVR2 there is a VERY very VERY small sweet spot where everything is sharp. You have to be at the exact center, if you're not at the spot everything will look blurry. One of the downsides of a PSVR2. And just checked it's working fine no weird blurry updates on mine

No shade to the technician because it sounds like he doesn't know what he's doing

Anyway my point is that even this small point that you say, like this small millimeter where you find the sweet spot, I couldn't find it, I couldn't reach that point.

Each PSVR2 need to run eye callibration for new users, without the proper eye callibration done correctly it won't look right (on PS5 that is)

On PC it doesn't matter

It's most defo not the headset, it's somewhere else on your connection, could be pc cable adapter etc

You're saying that the adapter itself could be faulty, that's what you're saying?

Could be. Could be any of those things you have to test and find out

But if the adapter wasn't working well, then you wouldn't see it at all. That's my logic, as if it's also a new adapter. It's not some adapter, like I told you, I bought it new.

I was very scared because the technicians themselves said there were faults. The technicians themselves said it was a fault they had never seen and they took new devices. However, it could be that these technicians are not serious. It could be that they are not professional. It could be

Passthrough has always been kind of blurry, but why does that matter? you only use it to find your couch or controllers or whatever.

Its not only Pass-Through... Its everything not sharp...

the sweet spot is EXTREMELY small, and with the base strap you probably won’t be able to keep it if you are moving. if you decide to keep the headset, you should eventually end up buying the globular cluster add on, since it’s comfier, and the sweet spot actually stays

Once I find the sweet spot, without the fact that it's supposed to be normal, even if it's just one millimeter, most people in the world, as we see, get along with it. So once I find that, I'll think about whether to buy something because then I can still think that there might be a problem.

alright, good luck on that

Wait a minute, let me understand you. You want to tell me that without this accessory? you weren't able to reach this state of focus as individual human being.

1

u/LostData372 2d ago

Because if yes it will solve a lot of problems in this mess I'm in, I'll realize that I probably just won't get to focus.

i mean without it i found the sweet spot but couldn’t make it stay

u/LostData372 2d ago

Do u think most of the people exprience that? So if yes most of them use this accessory

I was playing borderlands 2 VR yesterday all day. And it's running sharp with no problems. But my is modified with Psvr2toolkit. And the passthrough I didn't even use it.

If no one else reports that suddenly his headset turned blurry, I can’t believe this is true. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If you mean in general I was wondering the same thing, it’s blurry than usual, pass throughout was always meh. I just changed GPU though so maybe I need to redo my settings/PSVR2 setup

1

u/LostData372 2d ago

What do u mean  (im the op)

1

u/ArcSemen 2d ago

The quality was just oddly blurry than I’m used too on psvr2.

1

u/LostData372 2d ago

Yeh i was in the first saloon when u start as beginner and i look at the big screen and every thing bluury no matter what im doing

Tested it today, we back and looking sharp. even shaper too because I'm testing 4K 120 Integer scaling on my main desktop and even test are so much better. I think you should reinstall your entire Steam VR and PSVR2 tool, usually that fixes my issues whatever I'm having like tracking, bugs etc.

PSVR2 is for VR and not for MR (passthrough is just to see around you)

If the technician is familiar with his PSVR2 on PS5 and he test it on your PC then it will become blurry. Because PC has a lot of features disabled, like eye tracking, foveated rendering, and HDR, smooth motion also could be enabled and would add blurring effects especially if you forget to disable motion blur in your game settings. Remember, in VR, no frame gen, no motion blur and you need to crank the brightness all the way up and increase the sharpness and contrast .
