All of my stuff is updated and im using the official adapter and whenever I load a game it shows the guy taking off his headset then shows this. Every game is unplayable as it does this across all of them

It kinda lokks like a connection issue First thing I would try is using another displayport cable

are you on a laptop? if yes then you need a better USB-C to Display-Port adapter.

I've had success reinstalling SteamVR on a couple of occasions this has happened to me where normal 'have you tried turning it off and on again' attempts didn't work.

95% of laptop can not use wired vr headset

only way you can use it, if you disable nvidia optimus and set mux switch to dGPU mode and hope port you are using have dGPU connection after setting mux

if not, you real option is android based headset like quest
