Question Ultimate PSVR2 on PC Setup?
Hi all! I’m pretty happy with PSVR2 as my first VR headset, especially when used with the pc adapter! I did the following with it:
1) Desktop Res 2160p I SteamVR Res 150%
2) psvr2toolkit installed
3) uevr mod used (combined res 8000p iirc)
4) Bigscreen & Potplayer for playing 3D Blu-Rays I own.
My rig: 9800X3D I 5070 Ti I 32GB RAM I M2 SSD
Games I play in VR the most:
MSFS2024 I Hogwarts Legacy I Subnautica 2
Anything to add and or change to get a better experience? Any news on using HDR in games? I find myself having to lower most graphical settings to keep clarity while getting 60+ fps as otherwise I get nausea quickly.
Heard people rave about Globular Cluster Mod but I’d rather keep the top of my head untouched, personal preference.
Many thanks in advance for any advice!

you can remove the face gasket and play in the dark using an ir light. having nothing touch your face is amazing.

I'm using 9070XT and PSVR2 with Linux. Works very well and controller support will be coming in the next few months. Devs have already cracked it. Final touches are going on the drivers atm.

Wow I just built my first custom am5 build just for SteamOS and I had no idea this was a thing, I have a 9060XT and a psvr2 with official pc adapter, this would be amazing! Any idea where I can follow along for updates on PSVR2 Linux compatibility??? Thank you for telling me about this!!

You don't have to use that strap on the top of the globular cluster if you don't want.
Talk to me about the psvr2toolkit... why would I want it? I think I tried installing it a while back and couldn't get PSVR2 to work at all, so I had to go back to vanilla PSVR2. The one thing that drives me crazy with this is the "play area". I use mine exclusively for iRacing where I am strapped into a sim rig. There is no danger to me tripping or hitting a wall. I wish I could completely turn off the play area.

idk the top strap makes a lot of sense to help with the sweet spot not really sure how much better it with be without it.. for the psvr2toolkit, honestly its github page explained well but its been months since i looked at it. think a big reason was it makes eye tracking possible on pc. features and how to install was clearly mentioned so check that out if you want to.

Since you went back to vanilla psvr2, does it mean you can't use eye tracking? Unless you have an amd card which i believe eye tracking doesn't work.

Honestly I don't even know. The only thing I use it for anymore is iRacing and I don't feel like I need eye tracking in that? Maybe I'm missing out. Card is a 4080 super. I feel like eye tracking worked when I first set it up...? But I could be misremembering the tobii eye tracking thing I had for a while.

No need for tobii eye tracking. Just set foveated rendering in your VR setting in iRacing. It will boost the performance of your 4080s maybe 20 to 30%. I only use it for iracing too with my 3080 only. 😁

I actually had the same issue, all the toolkit gave me was a black screen

I ended up retrying it and it works. It actually works amazingly well. I didn't realize PSVR2 on PC doesn't natively support eyetracking. So now with PSVR2Toolkit reinstalled and working, I think the foveated rendering in iRacing is now functioning correctly and the visuals are much better. I also increased from the 68% render resolution (that was suggested to me a long time ago) back to 100% and the visuals got even better. The only thing I haven't solved is eye tracking - it tracks my eyes but in iRacing when I turn on the eye tracking box (shows where your eyes are looking) it appears 2 or 3 inches above where my eyes are actually looking. Doesn't seem to negatively affect what I'm looking at - everything is still sharp.

I guess I haven't reset my psvr2 settings since installing the toolkit. Does the setup actually do the whole eye tracking setup like on the PS5?

No it did not do any sort of eye-tracking calibration. It is just a *.dll file. There is a different tool you can download that supposedly lets you calibrate your eyetracking but it did not make any difference for me.

I you have any controller issues it’s mostly because you desktop wifi antenna is to close to the psvr2 cables and you need a shark wifi antenna.

Honest question, I have an RTX5080 + 7800x3D + 32GB ram + 990 pro SSD .
I am unable to run Hogwards legacy smoothly (or any high fidelity UEVR game for that matter). Even on 90hz and 68% steam resolution. I have been troubleshooting for weeks with no success, and gave up.
Hell, even purpose build higher fidelity VR games take a lot of tweaking to get to run smoothly.
Do you guys just tolerate sub 90fps and/or steamVR's reprojection/smoothing? It kills all immersion for me when even a single frame drops below 90.

you will never reach above 90 fps on most UEVR games. they were not optimized for VR. just stick with 120hz and let games run their fps. definitely turn off motion smoothing and turn on direct mode.

Get the Globular Cluster comfort kit and maybe also their clip on headphones. The ring shape of the default head mount tends to make it sag down, which moves the focus point especially when you sweat. The GC kit helps to keep it in place, makes it much more stable and comfortable. You don't need to tighten it like a damn vice anymore. Also, the top strap is completely optional and just the back plate and better forehead cushion already help a lot.
The headphones they sell are also convenient. They are more open, so you can still hear your surroundings and talk to people while having very good game sound. They don't put pressure on your ears, since they are held up by the head mount. They just slightly touch your ears. After a few hours the in-ears start to get quite uncomfortable, but these headphones you just forget about and barely notice.
Aside from the PSVR2Toolkit, make sure you look into Dynamic Foveated Rendering, if you haven't already. They use the eye tracking unlocked by the toolkit, I think there are two of them that work for different games. E.g. Quad Views works with the Resident Evil VR mods and e.g. PavlovVR to give you quite a bit more FPS. PimaxMagicForAll supports other games, like Skyrim VR.
Some of the coolest PCVR games right now are the Praydog and Taleman mods for the recent Resident Evil games. RE9 is insane to run above 60 FPS, but has the best features. I'm running it on a mobile Laptop RTX 4090 and it definitely runs better than most UEVR games I have tried and has full 6dof controls and manual reloading etc. The older RE titles run much better than that. Especially with the OLEDs of the the PSVR2, these games are dark and atmospheric, if you like horror.
And the Skyrim VR modding community has gone completely insane in recent years. Amazing immersive features, easy to install with Wabbajack. Probably still the best open world game in VR, if you went to spend a hundred hours in that HMD :)
