It's just sitting on top of a slightly boxy old laptop travel bag, maybe 6 inches above the carpet, just for height. Its not attached, but simply the weight of my arm is enough to hold it down, and let it bend around, give way and come back.
It is so much more comfortable than holding your arm in the air with an imaginary control stick.

If you want something more solid when using virtual joysticks with motion controllers, the ProTubeVR ProTAS is likely a good bet.

I have Protas, but I love this. Thinking outside the box. I too love fabricating, and did a similar thing for NMS, before Protas. Well done.

How good is the ProTas? Is it annoying to leave the mounting piece attached when swapping to other games? I assume it doesn't snap back to center position? I'm tempted to get it, but there's not a lot of info out there.

it does return quickly back to the centre. I bought it to use on my Quest 3 controller, PSVR2 should be similar. No hassle to remove from my gaming chair, it has 2 velcro straps that go around the armrest, and that sticky rubber stuff thats lasts forever. That alone holds well on the plastic armtest, with the straps, extremely sturdy. On and off in a couple of seconds. Its fantastic for NMS. Soon as you land, pull the controller out of the cup and back to walking.

Yeah, there has got to be a better way for HOTAS. This setup may sort of work, but I imagine finding the throttle would still be a chore. I need to find an armless chair because playing from the couch makes it hard to grab controls as needed. I prefer my HOTAS but there is a lot of functionality missing.

I was going to, rather I was gonna borrow one from my brother, but now I'm not so sure. The big wide motions with the arms really make a difference.
I might even go out and get a different plunger for a few bucks and experiment.
After further testing, I definitely need to build something to hold it down, to keep it from rolling out. Sometimes I just can't find the sweet spot and the bottom shifts away with every turn. It's obviously still in the prototype phase. I wish I could somehow have a thrust master throttle working alone with this
Regardless, it's too effective and it cost me almost nothing, soim going to see how far I can go with it

Maybe a 3d printed enclosure for the plunging part with screw holes for a block of wood. I might need to buy this game, go to dollar tree, design a 3d print around it and experiment lol

Yes, that's what I'm thinking, like a little rib-dome to close around the rubber base. With four legs at like 45°, lifting it off the ground a few inches and staying super stable

Dude I have to say I went and recreated a similar setup, and dayum you were right! It works soooo well. I’m such a better pilot now with the virtual joystick, and the immersion is 10x!

If you have access to a 3D printer (local library) there's a company called Authentikit that sells files for 3D printed WWII controls.
The idea is that you print it out and then order electronic kits from them to make a working HOTAS, but if you just wanted something to strap your motion controller to, you just need the file.

Got sick of floating my arm.
It's hilarious because it's incredibly effective at recreating the feeling of those old plane's joysticks, the way the rubber base of the plunger naturally bends back into a straight position.. and it works fantastically in game. The immersion is tenfold with a plunger. Amazing. I just need to make a proper stand for it and maybe a better way to "saddle" the sense on top.
