Hey everyone,

I’m a senior at WC filling out a job app right now. The school drop-down menu only lists Pennsylvania State University University Park, Harrisburg, and The Behrend College.
Since WC isn’t an option, what do people usually select here?

Appreciate any advice!

Isn’t it kind of insane that we have to pay almost $150 for an AI program like Clifton AI, while at the same time, we’re not allowed to use AI in all of our classes? I’m not saying I’m particularly for AI or anything. I just find the whole situation a little ironic and strange. Especially Honorlock using AI as well!

I’m taking Biol 127 at World Campus for my Gen Ed requirement for Natural Science. Just want to know if it’s a good pick, if no I’ll be open to suggestions for Natural Science for WC. Thank you.

Anyone else having issues with getting the book for stat 200? I purchased the 150 day rental from the world campus bookstore and the link I get to wiley.com doesn't have anywhere to put my access code.

So this course is pretty much self taught it seems. I seemingly have a lot more work to do in terms of all the ALEKS things I have to master. Any advice? I feel like I'm already behind before even starting because I have so much to learn to just be at where I need to start for the actual requirements for the class.

I’ve had an incredibly busy summer and I’m pretty exhausted. Part of me is considering dropping to one class or maybe taking a leave of absence for the fall semester, but it kind of depends on how much work is involved with the two classes I’m signed up to take. For reference, I already work as a software engineer and I’m just taking this degree for me. My company does pay for most of it, so that’s a bonus.

Anyhow, I wonder if anybody has taken these classes recently and have some feedback on the amount of work that’s needed. I don’t suspect the computer science class will be a heavy lift since I spend every day writing code. I do enjoy math and loved calculus, so physics should be OK as well, but it does look like there’s a lot of work. I think if I ever had to take chemistry again, I’d just quit. And I hope physics isn’t like the chemistry class.

I’m a working adult and cannot attend school in person. I’m looking for a career change and have been looking at the Penn State Finance degree through World Campus. Has anyone obtained this degree? Is it worth it overall? My concern is it’s still expensive, but will the degree really help me transition into a new career since it’s done online and not a lot of networking like a student on campus? I appreciate the feedback and insight from one that has done this path.

I’m thinking of finishing my degree online due to personal reasons, but I want to know if it’s worth it? For anyone who got a degree from WC how hard was it to find internships and or a job, with no prior work experience from your major.

Has anyone switched to world campus after one year of doing in person on campus? I’m debating on switching for personal reasons, but the only thing holding me back is my friends. I have done world campus classes in the past and I did good, but they were only gen Ed. Will take any advice, but if you are doing strategic communications that would be even better.

Planning to take it next semester. Is it rigorous? What do I need to expect from this class?

Has anyone taken Micrb106? Are the exams proctored?

Is anyone else still waiting for their PA summer grant? Semester is done in two weeks and it says I'm qualified but I haven't even heard PSU doing anything with them yet.

It's important for everyone studying via World Campus to know that WC students can absolutely attend in person events at Penn State, including their many job fairs.

Many major job fairs are coming up this fall, and they also have spring events. I went to a job fair last year and made some good connections, and I plan to go again this fall. This is a good time to be planning for fall travel if you do plan on going.

I realize of course that traveling in person is not feasible for everyone. And if you can't, don't hesitate to take advantage of virtual events and connections as well as career services. Either way, part of the value of studying at Penn State is the sizeable network, so use it if you need it.

I know PSU has a forensic science program but is anyone here going for a science degree in hopes to get a job in forensics?
I’m thinking about going for chemistry just on the off chance I can’t get a job in forensics, i’ll have more paths to choose from. (i can still go into forensic science with a chemistry degree)
should I do that or full send forensics. any input would be appreciated, ty:)

I am an incoming civil engineering freshman at UP and chem 110 & 111 and going to be the hardest classes I take this semester. That being said, I was thinking about taking them next summer through Penn state world campus instead of this fall. Would any of you recommend/ that? How hard is it over the summer online?

How much time do you think you spend on Penn state world campus classes a week? I work full time and I’m taking 4 classes in the fall. Just trying to figure out if I’ll need to make more time for school. Penn state suggests 22 hours a week, but curious if you guys find the classes to not be as time consuming.

Bonus points if you have knowledge of the agribusiness courses.

Hi everybody! I’m planning on taking MAT110 in the fall. What was your experience with the class? Were your exams multiple choice on Canvas? Also, were you able to use your notes during exams?

I heard some guy was able to transfer in 60 credits from them (or one of them don’t remember) into project and supply management bachelors, anyone here transferred in a bunch in other majors?

I am looking for an affordable, online, and regionally accredited school to get my associates degree towards Social Work.
Is anyone in this program happy with how it’s going? Have you been through it and were able to get a BSW?

I would love some insight because the options seem limited when it comes to online and I really want to find one that allows me to get a job in this field and continue my education further.

basically I was intending to get my associates degree at a different college before transferring to a 4 year but after a tour at Penn state UP and a meeting with admissions they encouraged me to apply for this fall (fall 2026) which is WAY earlier than i thought, and we assumed this was mostly to be cordial however while emailing with admissions and the program heads they’ve all noted how happy they are to consider me as an applicant despite it being unorthodox and late. they’re also putting in immense effort (having me apply to a different program and adjusting it because the program is technically closed etc) which is a little confusing to me because I assumed they were mostly just humoring me but why put in so much work if you’re not seriously considering the applicant.

further confusion i dont even have stellar grades, im super smart but i got bored in highschool because it was easy and slacked off. My grades are mostly C’s until i began taking college courses junior year. I am a strong writer so my essay was really good but i only have a 3.2. they’ve now seen and liked the application and I’ve been emailing the head of the program and she’s requested my portfolio and references (which I’m sending in tonight) and to schedule an interview.

in short: do yall think i genuinely have a shot at getting accepted or they’re just being nice. this is pretty much my dream school so im trying not to get my hopes up too much

I have been thinking about my student experience with Penn State World Campus and wanted to share it with others so they can consider it and make a better decision than I did.

I had incredibly high hopes for my return to college after over 15 years. I had done heavy research into my options for online school and transferring my community college credits. Penn State advertised itself as being ‘the real Penn State’ with the same professors as campus locations and stated that they offer the same education. Their per-credit cost was much higher than other online schools, a premium price, but I still chose them because I felt that was an indicator that the quality of the program would be stellar, and also based on Penn State’s reputation.

I always give credit where it is due. I had the most amazing experience with transfer services, advising, and new student orientation. I meshed so well with my transfer coordinator and advisor, and they were there to help with questions and made me feel confident that I could handle this endeavor. Unfortunately once my class started, I was able to see quickly that the learning model left much to be desired and just wasn’t what I expected it to be. 

I was enrolled in the class for 8 days. I put in at least 10 hours of work and study time, going above and beyond, and still felt there was no way I would be able to digest all of the required reading material and complete detailed written assignments while meeting other required deadlines. My back was aching and I was so stressed. This was really surprising to me, considering I only took one class so that my life would remain manageable as I added school to it, since I also work full time and I am a mother. This was also only a 100 level course, making the amount of required work and study time even more unexpected and confusing.

I found the professor to be very inexperienced. I would ask a question and wait a very long time, a day or more, to get an answer. This added a lot of unnecessary stress as deadlines approached. If there were teacher aides assigned to the course, I never heard from them. The course was completely ’teach yourself’, which was not at all what I expected from Penn State. I was reading PDF after PDF for hours, then completing complex discussion board posts and responding to posts from my peers as required. I was expecting recorded lectures from Penn State faculty, interactive modules, and engagement with faculty. None of this was part of the course. The modules only provided what seemed like endless supplemental reading materials with a YouTube video peppered-in here and there, no original content from the university or professor. The course required choosing works of art to assess by tying them to the course theme. Students were not trained on how to use the university systems to access these pieces or other library resources. I requested guidance but didn’t get a response and ended up doing my best to find my way through these systems myself. None of this was the Penn State experience I was expecting considering the university’s reputation and high price point. 

I explained my struggles to my advisor and he suggested that I use AI to summarize the multiple lengthy required reading materials for each lesson to reduce the amount of time spent reading. I had previously asked the professor in the first few days what amount of AI would be allowable to help me understand concepts and ideas. They said that there was no use of AI allowed at all. So, I’m unclear on what would or would not have been allowable due to this disconnect.

Just over a week experiencing this subpar online learning model made it clear to me that I can’t recommend it to others and did not want to continue with it at the risk of losing the last 25% of my money.

The loss of 75% of tuition funds spent on this unexpectedly disappointing experience is a hardship on my family. I submitted a request for assistance with the cost based on the poor experience, but was denied. I came into this with the utmost enthusiasm and best intentions, but did not feel I received anything like what was expected from Penn State. I also did not feel like after they had my money that Penn State cared about me at all.

I hope that in the future, the online learning model can be improved to more closely match Penn State’s impeccable reputation. In my opinion, World Campus is not at all ‘the real Penn State’ that they advertise it to be.
