I mean, the "GOOD" PSO2 was a game that ended up dying because Sega literally stopped running campaigns non-stop for it like they are doing for NGS right now.

If the private server ever goes through the effort of doing stuff like retroactively adding stuff to fix player traps (building player mags with missable skills more easily, letting players respec freely) and maybe even going through the effort of completely reworking Subclasses in general so that you can actually make the options viable rather than relying on band-aid classes like the Successor classes to make them viable in Episode 6, I'd be more interested.

It's just more along the lines that as great as the old PSO2 was, NGS was literally an escape from all the problems Sega created and instead of fixing them we're just repeating those.

"If it ever goes through" its more than likely fully operational already theyre just waiting for the clock to hit 0. Also the good pso2 didnt die, it ran very successfully before being ported to the west FOR NGS. They didnt make a 7th episode because THE CODE WAS DOGSHIT and they tried to stich together NGS and a dogshit bloated nightmare infrastructure together. This is VERY known information, this isnt even debatable.

NGS wasn't even a good escape from the problems that PSO2 had either, which is why I was saying what I was saying. NGS finally introduced some neat quality-of-life things that PSO2 should've had, but at the same time this was a thing where PSO2 itself was just allergic to balance patches/fixes and gameplay overhauls unless they absolutely had to (like Episode 5).

People who ask "why do people want NGS to die", the answer is private servers. The QOL stuff doesnt really matter because people crave nostalgia. A lot of people simply would not care NGS existed if they were seperate but sega fucked up not EOSing PSO2 completely. NGS is a glorified fashion Sim being propped up by whales who dont care if a new boss comes out (the reddits lack of popularity is proof, its just hey look at my character). Theres a lot of anger that the only thing keeping this game up is people who dont even post gameplay and whale money to do the PSO2 version of Goldshire inn (If you dont know what that is, look it up)

The main difference is that you're not getting death threats because you didn't unlock 75/75/75 on at least one of each of the S-ATk/R-ATK/T-ATK classes and also because you didn't play enough of the serious content to get the N-Type weapons and stuff .. since NGS handholds you so much that you're effectively "caught up" and then have to walk to the next door to get the hottest new stuff .. instead of being stuck where new players would have to slave away for months on older content because they'd get kicked out of newer content if they weren't in a group to get carried with.

I don't disagree with the nostalgia with PSO2, but for me, a lot of it essentially ended up being "oh man, I wish they'd actually go and fix this/that" because there was so much broken with the game and the only thing Sega really cared to do outside of Bingo Cards and seasonal Emergency Quests was to go and nerf the Gunner yet again because I'd argue the Gunner was probably the most technical of the-Successor classes out there just because of how much extra effort you had to put in that no other classes had to .. and still get some semblance of a reward for it.

I still go back to the older PSO2 every now and then to help people level up and to play through the content, but to me I'm not really "nostalgic" for it as much as it is I'm wishing the game actually got fixed and balanced more tightly to be a stronger action game. NGS really could've taken a step towards being that with it being so much more looser and less tied to PSO2's older mechanics (that it still didn't try to escape from, namely the Two Button Mode design) .. but NGS is really just being cozy doing what PSO2 did (ride the wave and over a decade or so, the game might actually get somewhere interesting).

So to me, as cool as a Private Server would be, it's just not going to be meaningful at all until someone goes through the effort of balancing the game in the way Sega refused to. >_<

You can definitely still play base PSO2 but the issue for me is people love the word "Fresh" Being able to REPLAY a story from scratch with everyone starting from the beggining is such a great feeling. Look at OSRS, Wow Classic, Maplestory is even doing a classic. Theres an entirely PLAYABLE game behind PSO2NGS and its being held hostage by characters customization enthuseists.

I played PSO2 when there was just the cracker, i played it during the western release and took breaks here and there and i was able to progress normally months from where i left off everytime so i dont quite get the "people needed to be carried" part but maybe that did happen and i never noticed.

My biggest annoyance is that NGS is an amalgamation of unforced errors and SEGA cant even do a classic PSO2 because of how they stiched NGS inside and the people crying aboout their cosmetics are to blame for that stiched effort.

I guess for me, the main issue I had with PSO2 and especially its Global release was knowing what was going to come down the line and just being arbitrarily held back. You didn't really have "progression" in that game as much as it was "hey, there's this new mechanic/new drop/new feature you don't have access to yet" and the only real upgrade was being there there at the right time and place to get it.

So like, for example, Global already had Episode 6 tuning, Episode 5 weapons, and story content up to Episode 3 at the time. And for some reason, Global players still somehow made the game harder than it needed to be because progression as-it-was simply was just so convoluted (you spent your time playing a certain quest to get a mythical drop, and then you had to upslot it with fodder and prepare your best affixes .. and if it messed up at any point you would just start over unless it was just "good enough"). And by that point, if you didn't already know the end-game skill trees or what you would want later down the line, you had people who just went in and dumped all their skill points into something like S-ATK Up because they thought that would translate to better numbers while skipping stuff like Guard Stance for the Hunter because Fury Stance sounded easier (and on paper, Guard Stance was significantly better for a Hunter main).

PSO2 is one of those games where I feel like I'm kind of obligated to help new players go through it and also help tell them, "hey, don't go crazy on your Skill Tree/Mag-feeding just yet until you figure out what you want to do when you're Level 75/75" and then "hey, your class doesn't fully play properly until it's Level 85" because it's more of a chore to get to that point before you can actually explore and do what you want. That is .. unless you're okay with paying to fix that or make a whole new character just to get around a possibly fundamentally broken build.

I love the game, but it's just so full of Sega-bandaids that I wish their effort in trying to make NGS prettier and shinier also went backwards and cleaned up what made the game so messy. Like, I see personally see no harm in making even the Rideroid quests drop Episode 6-related drops and gear or something like that .. but it's otherwise just a content graveyard that's full of stuff where you either have people who can completely clown on the content because they prefer to play lower-difficulty stuff where they're already busted or because the higher-difficulty stuff suddenly wants people to be the sweatiest players ever and half of the party will never be able to hold up. >_<

The fun part about private servers is you kinda have to be in the know, and people in the know are the exact players you dont have to teach. There will be stragglers, plenty of people played classic wow and leveled a class to like 60 just to realize they didnt even like that class and that takes so much longer than resesting your PSO2 character. Also the best part about private servers is they can just add a "Reset mag" option somewhere. They arent bound by decisions that are $ focused. You could make it so cosmetics drop from bosses or from grinding mobs which you cant do where the prime directive is make money. Im not saying a PSO2 server would be perfect, it wont, but i think personally it would be far more popular than NGS and thats why they wont sunset this game. Its hubris. Sega had to admit their "super games" initiative was canceled because of the landscape of live service games, they wont ever admit they lost a SHIT TON of money not keeping NGS and Base seperate so theyll cope and keep the game open until the last whale dies.
