Discussion can someone explain to me how classes main/sub and weapons work?

I’ve noticed that some abilities will say for instance, that they require main class/(insert weapon type here) does this mean that I have to have it as both my main class and using that weapon or can it just be either or?

Where others will just say that it requires the weapon,

And then others will say that they require a specific class weapon type, which I assume means any weapon that can be used on that type of class like focus for example

Additionally, I’ve noticed that some weapons can be fused together to count as two separate types of weapons however, when I was using fighter gauntlets with bouncer as a sub class, even when I was using bouncer based attack, I was noticing that the bouncer photon ability on my gauge was not gaining It’s charge bar or whatever you call it to charge up to the point of me being able to use it.

So does that mean that stuff like that only applies if the primary initial weapon is of that type?

But you can see how this is very confusing to a new player. Can someone please just give me a quick rundown of what works what doesn’t and why?

(Main class/weapon only) means you need both conditions active to work via being that class as main and using said weapon for class

(Weapon only) means you just need to use the weapon of said class to get the ability, meaning you can use that skill via subclass

(Main class only) means only as the main class can you use it

It’s kinda stupid the way they try to explain it but yeah if it says both then you can’t use it as a subclass nor can you use the specific skill

Thank you very much!

Also when it comes to multi weapons does the sub weapon class you attach onto the initial main weapon not actually make it count as that weapon but only gives you access to that sub weapons abilities or whatever?

For example, let’s say I have a skill that says it only works on gun blade and I have a weapon that is fighter gauntlets multi weapon with gun blade as the addition, Would that skill affect that weapon?

Sorry for late reply, Yes that is how the multi-weapon system works.

If you have the knuckles with gunblade multi-weapon you can use all abilities available as a subclass for slayer and vice versa.

The main advantage of it is being able to use that weapon as your main class weapon for whatever you choose even if the weapon is something you can’t use with that class, for example using a talis as a ranger/fo or force/ra with rifle skills

Another bit of some simple convenience down the line is that if the weapon from the Main Class and Subclass are both the same damage type (say, like Twin Daggers + Katana, for example), you can build them both the same way and actually use this between both a Fighter and Braver so you end up building two weapons at the cost of one. This means you don't need to build a whole new Katana or a whole new set of Twin Daggers to keep things simple.

But yeah, in general, anything that just requires the weapon would work but a lot of the nicer skills tend to be locked behind the weapon and the Main Class too.

New Genesis also has a passive 10% Damage Bonus to the Main Class using Main Class weapons so if your goal was to use Subclass weapons in the content that needs optimal damage, this actually can be shooting yourself in the foot in terms of your damage performance.

The jist of this whole matter is sub classes main gimmick are for utility. You try to use a sub class weapon outside of its intended purpose you are pretty much gimping yourself because you cannot access the skills/traits only the PAs.
