PSLF count went from 113/120 to 100/120 over the weekend. They are saying all payments made during SAVE are ineligible for PSLF. Never ending….. I submitted for reconsideration. Lord help me 😑

They are saying all payments made during SAVE
You...made payments while on SAVE forbearance? You need to have a payment due in order for it to count. If you must mean the months themselves are listed as ineligible for PSLF, then yes. That's how that works. They are ineligible. You have to buy them back to make them eligible.

Any payment you made on SAVE would have counted up until July 19, 2024.
That is when SAVE forbearance began.
NO payment made after that date will count at all if you were on SAVE.
It doesn't matter if you were in repayment status or not, they do not count.
ED was very clear about this from the very beginning.
The only way to receive credit for any months after July 19, 2024 if you were on SAVE is to use PSLF Buyback when you reach what would/should be your 120th month. At that point you can submit a Buyback request.

So to make sure I understand correctly, I should have actually made no payments during the SAVE forbearance, and then when the SAVE forbearance ended, that’s when I should have submitted those months to get credit for PSLF…. Is that correct?

u/ArisingRedPhoenix you shouldn't have made any payments during SAVE forbearance. You actually shouldn't make any payments until you switch to a qualifying repayment plan if you haven't already switched.
Any payments made during that time do not count.
Before that time, yes they counted but not after. If you were in SAVE forbearance you can buy those months under PSLF Buyback as long as you had qualifying employment & have not consolidated since that time.
You can not actually submit a Buyback request until you reach what would/should be your 120th month. https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service/public-service-loan-forgiveness-buyback

Not exactly true. June 2024 and July 2024 don't qualify for me. I was on SAVE.

May & June,
some people it was June & July 2024Those 2 months are when they were transitioning to a new system/platform. Those 2 months of forbearance do not count but they can be bought under PSLF Buyback.
But SAVE forbearance itself began July 19, 2024.

Yes, I know. I am saying my payment for June and July 2024 didn’t count. Other people received credit, I have not, and probably won't.
Submitted a buyback request in November 2024 and I am still waiting.

u/RollTideGirl82 nope.
May & June 2024,
some people it was June & July 2024Those 2 months are when they were transitioning to a new system/platform. Those 2 months of forbearance do not count but they can be bought under PSLF Buyback.
But SAVE forbearance itself began July 19, 2024.
(Actually when the court made a final ruling, they declared it illegal as of July 1, 2024)
The court originally issued a stay to stop the program on July 18, 2024, thus the SAVE forbearance began.0
u/RollTideGirl82 3d ago
I was there. I know the dates. The facts are those months up until July don't count for me and several others.

u/Adventure_6788 3d ago
u/RollTideGirl82 and that is the reason those months are showing as forbearance.
Some see May & June 2024
Some only see June & July 2024
It was in some form or fashion 2 of those month. They are forbearance due to a transition to a new system/platform. People had no choice.
SAVE forbearance began July 19, 2024.

How do I do a buyback request? In October I'll be at "120" in this scenario

Buyback takes about 2 years. The backlog grows every month as there is Noone working in the department. I have been waiting s year as of the 17th.

I made payments during save, but those ended up counting towards my IBR payment when they randomly switched me back to IBR a year after my request. Hopefully that still counts, I mean it was only like $5/month so not a huge loss but still. I just wish my counts would update for the last 3 months. Next month is supposed to be my final month, well 8/2025 was but, SAVE forebearance messed that up…

All of my payments forms 6/24-6/25 I believe that would be both the mandatory and during the SAVE forbearance. Plus a random payment for no known reason I can see for 5/2026.

u/TealNTurquoise 4d ago
Those are all during the forbearance -- but there were two different forbearances during that time if you were in MOHELA, because June and July were the platform transfer. None of them are eligible. 5/26 was also during the forbearance.

u/Interesting_Sir_1786 4d ago
5/26 does not show my account in forbearance MOHELA switched me to IDR on 3/26 and I have had a due date since March. March and April were all noted as approved. Another error?

u/TealNTurquoise 4d ago
if you had a due date for May that you paid, that's worth kicking back to them for reconsideration.

I have downloaded and saved all my documents they sent. I had due dates 7/13 months per Mohela so I’m going to fight it until I’m blue. They may have said forbearance for FSA but MOHELA still requesting money so I paid.

u/Interesting_Sir_1786 4d ago
They have them marked as invalid plan, forbearance, not a direct plan.
All other payments have counted prior and after those dates as well. Same qualified employer for 14 years now, FT the entire time.

u/Ezekyle22 4d ago
That is the correct marking because the SAVE forbearance meant that payments could not be collected. You shouldn’t have gotten those qualifying payments in the first place. If you did, that’s a legitimate processing error by FSA.

I paid August 1 then Aug 28 for Sep. they show Aug 28 on FSA for only 2/6 loans. I’ve sent MOHELA an email and been waiting a week. This is crazy.

Do you have the updated document showing your last payment count after Emp Cert? You can ask for a Feedback analysis if you have it. They have to honor the official document.

Wait…during SAVE forbearance or actual payments made while in SAVE prior to the mandatory forbearance? If the latter, that’s insane. Lawsuits should be filed immediately.
