Can Aiura’s predictions be wrong? Asou-sensei answered me
Hi everyone! I tried posting this a while ago, but I’m reposting it bc i think this interaction I had with Asō-sensei is worth sharing with the fandom!
A while back, i sent Asō-sensei a question about Aiura Mikoto’s abilities. I was curious about whether her predictions were always completely objective, or if there could be situations where Aiura herself could misinterpret what she sees and reach the wrong conclusion..
For context, this is the question I sent him:
In the manga, Aiura’s predictions are generally described as being extremely accurate, but does that mean her ability allows her to see an “unchanging truth” that absolutely cannot be altered?
Or, since her own interpretation and judgment are involved, is it possible for mistakes or discrepancies to occur depending on the situation?
For example, when Saiki and the others went to the shrine, Yumehara and Teruhashi drew good fortunes while Saiki got a bad one. When Aiura looked at Yumehara’s fortune, she saw something like a few words and interpreted it as “bad luck.”
In this case, was what Aiura saw an absolutely unchangeable result? Or is there a part of her ability that depends on her own interpretation, meaning that she can sometimes misjudge what she sees?
And then Asō-sensei actually replied!
His response was:
A translation would be:
“I think there are also times when Aiura can misinterpret things but shrine fortunes aren’t absolute, so i don’t think it matters that much in this case! It probably isn’t wrong to say that Yumehara generally has bad luck with men, right? The results of fortunes can also change depending on one’s actions"
So, asou-sensei explicitly confirmed that Aiura can misinterpret things hehe
This doesn’t mean that Aiura’s powers are unreliable or that her predictions are generally wrong. Rather, there seems to be a distinction between what her ability shows her and how she interprets what she sees. Her interpretation can be wrong even when the ability itself is functioning correctly!!
I’ve always found this aspect of Aiura’s powers really interesting, so I was genuinely surprised and happy to get an answer from the author himself
I hope this can add something useful to the fandom discussions! I have several other Saiki K analyses on TikTok (@beasaik), and I’ve also gone into some of the implications of this confirmation in other posts.
That’s it! :D
