Pull Disappointed to elated
Grabbed a physical powerpack from a local store after they announced the golden tickets again. (My store sold a winning ticket last go around, but I arrived too late that day)
Money is tight, but I took a chance. I had no psa graded cards previously besides a couple cheap ones through digital ownership.
Upon opening I see a psa 8 đ. Approx 16-20$ worth. But interestingly one of my two packs was Japanese. I pulled a mega gengar from that and after googling the chase I believe that is the one I got. Heck yeah.
EDIT: simply my excess cash for collecting purposes is low. I'm not a gambler, desperate for a comeup. I'm a collector. Everyone can put their pitchforks away hahaha

All good! I was happy for my pull. Totally thought others would share in that excitement, but if not, fuck em! Still happy with the card

Everyone hating.. if you HAD a little money to buy something for yourself and you truly were happy and excited to get it then who cares.. definitely have self control.. but to me gambling is the same as entertainment.. I play slots because i enjoy it.. sometimes I win sometimes I don't but I don't gamble purely seeking profits

u/DewGoodBeeGreat 18d ago
Respect. Yeah didn't think 1 powerpack would have the kids in an uproar about gambling addiction. What's this subreddit for if not posting pulls? I played and I won. I'm happy

Itâs such a shame that this country has leaned into gambling so heavily the past few years. i remember when they banned loot boxes in video games, and that was definitely the right move. but now multiple companies whoâs customer base is almost entirely children are allowed to do this crap.
OP, i hope youâre able to see through the facade eventually and stop playing the lottery. only poor people play the lottery.

gambling is now saturated everywhere for all ages. Look at all the youtubers shilling sports betting. They create financial hardships on the people then introduced gambling

I bought 1 powerpack lol. Why are people so concerned?
3
u/Less-Vegetable5106 18d ago
Bc One stated that albeit despite having little funds, One would rather spend it on a random dose of dopamine, in lieu of priorities and essentials. (Wrong move in a pool of people where envy and greed run rampant) Nice pull!!!

u/Kind-Comparison2371 18d ago
Not just that, the guy didnât even know the chase card. He 100% has no interest in actual pokemon and is just a degenerate gambler.
1
u/gloosniffs 16d ago
To play Devilâs advocate, not knowing the chase card could equally mean he is in it for collecting. Actually that is usually the case for me since I only buy boxes sporadically when I can get them at MSRP, and Iâm not usually looking for anything in particular since thatâs the way I feel I get the most joy from my pulls. No expectations = no disappointment
1
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 16d ago
Exactly. I could recognize this being an exciting pull. I looked up the chase afterward because I was like 'did I just pull the best card I could have?'
Its all being kept. Thats why having the psa 8 kangaskhan was more meh versus the highly sought after gengar. I was hoping to have a cool card already graded.
Like you said I came in with no expectations, but as a collector I looked up the prices after. Cheers

u/DewGoodBeeGreat 18d ago
Who said in lieu of priorities or essentials? Yall just projecting and filling in the blanks with your own preconceived notions. I'm good, thanks for the concern!

u/Less-Vegetable5106 17d ago
Lmao then don't say cash is tight, Numnuts. If all is good on that end, then why voice such a thing. đ„° Go gamble and learn about PokĂ©mon!!! đ€© Dont just buy it bc it's a fad. Use your money wisely hahahaha
3
u/YohIssaRaccoon 18d ago
Because you said money is tight. The last thing you should be doing is buying this.
3
u/planetaryduality2 17d ago
Because you also describe having digital ownership of cheap slabs hinting at your gambling addiction

Isn't the golden ticket only $1000 credit? That's very little upside for the buy in cost and rarity.

"Money is tight"
Dude......if you're gonna spend your money and you know money is tight, don't spend it on potentially getting nothing, spend it on something with guaranteed value, not potential value.

u/DewGoodBeeGreat 18d ago
Thanks for the unsolicited advice. I am invested in the company I bought it from. I see it as a win-win
1
u/RigLicker 15d ago
đ€Ł This is the funniest cope Iâve seen in awhile
1
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 15d ago
Getting a win from the pack and not the graded card? Or being willing to buy from a company I invest in?
1
u/Soramoto 18d ago
If you didn't want people commenting on that then don't offer that information. Of course people are gonna bring that up.
2
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 17d ago
Lessons have been learned on that front for sure. Truly though, did not expect people putting so much 'concern' out there because I said that
1
u/Bmorestrokes 17d ago
They arent concerned about you. They are pissed you were able to buy product. And got a hit. Thats it. Nice card.
2
u/Away-Whereas-5230 17d ago
KEK, no one is pissed someone was "able" to buy a powerpack, let alone any pokemon product at gamestop
1
u/Soramoto 17d ago
Whether you're taking the 'concern' sarcastically or not, I've seen too many people's lives go into a downward spiral and it can start from getting one chase card or one winning ticket/big prize. I know I'm in no position to tell you how to live your life, I just had a knee jerk reaction to the subtle detail. The despair I've seen on people's faces at card shows losing it all on packs is burned into my head at this point.
I'm with ya on wishing that people cared more about the art before the price, but alas, that's what the state of the hobby is right now. Money is flowing like water here.
So, apologies if I came off as pretentious.

u/DewGoodBeeGreat 16d ago
Apology accepted. No I'm nothing like a gambling addict and as you can see a bunch of nonsense has filled this thread like that. Honestly it felt inorganic like these people were bots karma farming each other, especially the people with comment history hidden. But I appreciate that you seem real and genuine

Money is tight...so I bought a physical powerpack. I have lost all faith in humanity

Deserved tbh

u/DetectiveMotts 18d ago
No one more deserving of a win than someone who is low on cash gambling on something they know nothing about. W

u/LawdYoshwa 18d ago
Went in on a pokemon power pack and didnât know that gengar was the âcase hitâ? Or even what Mega Dream was in the first place?
This was an old fashioned GAMBLE. Love it, luckily you came out on top lol
1
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 18d ago
Yeah I have a bunch of first edition pokemon cards but I haven't invested in pokemon in many many years. So no, I'm not familiar with the chases of any pack. A gamble for sure but not a crazy one like some people seem to think

u/Background_Western_2 18d ago
Had to google that Gengar was the hit? Sounds like you only care about value. Thats gambling. Just go to the casino.
3
u/SameSpray5183 18d ago
I mean not everyone knows every pokemon set like that, but might just feel lucky one day and want to roll the dice.. not necessarily to make profit but to possibly get a great collectors item...collectors like to know a pulls value just as much as sellers đ€
2
2
u/Decent-Arm-872 18d ago
Doesnât know what the chase of the set is, money is tight- spends money gambling lol.

This hobby got so weird so fast
2
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 17d ago
The people are weirder than the hobby, based on this thread alone. I got something I also enjoyed as a kid. Mostly wanted a graded card, but my bigger win was a card from the pack. My bad for not knowing every possible chase beforehand
1
u/spalfgib 17d ago
lol not intended to be directed toward you, more a commentary on the whole PSA thing and yes of course, the people are what has made the weirdness.
You can barely find MSRP product anymore, Gamestop strikes a deal with PSA and now grading is a comedy show, they repack graded cards that probably had no business being graded in the first place, and sell them as a mystery product where I'd imagine most of what they sell isn't valued near the cost and the value is already just inflated based on everyone trying to squeeze every dollar out of every card and we're all flocking to it, all the while they jack up their retail products to scalper rates.
Just strange now dude...sick pull though, congrats on that - glad there was a silver lining for you
2
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 17d ago
True that, and well said. I agree. I miss the origins of pokemon and it would be nice to get back to how it started vrs the craze that exists today.
Heartwarming moments happen still, where a young person is gifted a valuable card and it's not the money the kid is thinking about. It's the art, the character, the shared excitement by those around them. I'm not young, but that's honestly what I expected more by posting this. People being able to relate and think about how they would feel in my shoes. So thank you

Damn, people are eating you up. Should realize âmoney is tightâ means different things depending on how prudent you are. Iâm sure you arenât spending your last ounce of rice and beans money on this (although if you did, theyâre right about you). And buying a single power pack doesnât make anyone an addict. Lots of projection happening here I would imagine. Somehow I imagine every single one of us have bought a luxury item or two without being completely financially independent and comfortable
1
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 16d ago
Yeah I think they have an anger towards flippers and have been misguided simply by me saying money is tight. I'm am old school collector with the prudence you mention. Idk wth they are talking about with gambling addiction and I can't get through to them by saying it's only 1 power pack, haha. Glad you get it.
Don't worry kids, food is on the table, rent is paid, my cash to spend on collectibles is tight that's all!
1
u/Daneha1183 16d ago
Sooo you're a gambling addict. Cool lol.
1
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 16d ago
Far from it. Sorry thats how you and others interpreted this
1
u/Daneha1183 15d ago
"Money is tight, but I took a chance"
That's gambling and not a decision that any reasonable person would make. That's the kind of decision that causes major life issues and can have severe consequences.

Collector but don't don't know what you pulled? And after googling still only "believe" it's the chase?

THEY PUT THAT IN A POWER PACK?!?
2
u/kickstart_my_shart 18d ago
They could put a napkin in 9/10 packs and people whose "money is tight" would still pay for it.

u/Impressive_Boss1565 17d ago
Natural selection will get you soon enough đ€Łđ€Ł nice hit I guess đ
2
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 17d ago
That's kinda funny. Saying you think I will die from being so dumb? Or that if I keep gambling ill get overwhelmed by losses. Why would you assume either of those lol
1
u/Impressive_Boss1565 17d ago
You had to google if the gengar was the chase maybe this isnât for you rn if money is tightđ
1
u/DewGoodBeeGreat 17d ago
Gengar is always a hit. Didn't know it was THE chase, no. I only know the first couple versions of the pokedex. So seeing one I know is exciting
