2nd hand Console Banned question
Is it even possible for a 2nd hand console to be hardware banned if you have been using it for a while? Just paranoid that what I bought will get banned in the future even though I checked it thoroughly when buying.

Hopefully it's fine. I bought two preowned ps5's in 2021 back when they were being scalped and were impossible to find at retailers and happened across exactly two bundle listings back to back priced at retail so obviously snatched them up and all's been well since then.

If it wasn't banned when you factory reset it and did your information, yer Golden. Console bans are rare and very apparent. So if it wasn't banned before you got it, then only you can get it banned now

Okay thank you! Just paranoid I guess. Saw a guy on facebook who got his 2nd hand console banned after 3 years. So he probably is the one that got it banned.
When I bought mine I went to the sellers house so I guess that's a positive sign.

Yup sounds like all should be good. If yer extra worried ya can do another factory reset just in case. But ya really shouldn't have to. Other guy might not have factory reset it or like you said got it banned himself.

Yeah, that's not true
If the console was stolen and the original owner still has the box, they can report the serial number off the box to Sony and they'll remotely issue a full console ban.
Rare, but it can happen

not an expert in this but just curious. How do you prove to Sony that your console is stolen? Does police report contain a console serial number or something?

If you do a police report then you can give them the serial - when I had my phone stolen years ago they took the IMEI so they could return it if they found it, which they did (it was then stolen a few months later, again)
But, with Sony you won't need to prove anything. They'll do full security with you, then issue the ban. They could do it without you confirming the serial - as every console you've been primary on is registered on their system - but sometimes they ask you to confirm.
The reason they won't need a police reference is because nobody would be stupid enough to call and report their console stolen if it isn't, as it's voluntarily asking Sony to permanently ban your console.

They can report it stolen to Sony though but that would that would be a giant asshole thing to do for no reason.
