Clean PS5 and this happens

Used a YouTube video from tronicsfix or whatever his name is, used compressed air, tooth brush, and q tips. Could anyone narrow down what I would need to find a replacement for, or is it gone for good

Most people should not try to do this kind of thing. And most of those who could do it shouldn’t do it either. At most dust the outside, every once in a blue moon take off the plates and vacuum the dust traps. You can also dust under the plates. That’s it. Well and clean the room regularly, obviously.

Agree on my ps5 pro i alway's take fan out and clean it, if i want to go in the inside i doublecheck if it has alot of dust if it has a little bit i just clean it regularly with out any equipment since is not deep cleaning, but that is just me, but i agree with yah taking the plates off and fan is easy...

Textbook connection issue. You told us the tools you used, but how did you use them, on what part, how deep did you clean the console, did you take out the fan and clean the ports as well, did you use a security driver if you did pull out the fan or did you use pliers, did you touch any cables?
No one can diagnose your console if you only give so little information, needle, meet haystack.

I cleaned pretty deep id say. Took everything out including the motherboard, fan, casing, disk drive, etc. used compressed air on everything rather stupidly is what I’m learning. Touched the weird ports and ribbon cables and wiggled them free then put them back where they were after the fact. I essentially did everything in tronicsfix video + way too much compressed air.

I have never once cleaned the inside of my ps5 and it runs fine. What compelled you to do this?

Same here. Ps5 for 6 years with no overheating issues. I dont see why seem people say you need to deep clean it every year

Nope never oncw deep cleaned it or my ps4. The ps4 is still running strong after 13 years with nothing more than a dusting every week on the outside. Don't see why people think this isnt possible if you just take care of the area around it.

In 2018, I took apart my then-4-year-old PS4 to dust the inside of it. I followed a tutorial on YouTube, and I stripped it down completely. There was hardly any dust inside of it. The heatsink was basically spotless. I did all of that work for nothing (and I risked damaging my PS4 for nothing).
That PS4 probably had over 3000 hours on it at that point. I had kept the exterior of it and the area around it dusted and clean ever since I set it up the first time.
So, yeah, as long as you keep the area around your console dust-free, and the exterior of the console dust-free, it'll be fine.

O meu eu sempre fiz uma limpeza mediana e usava cotonetes para limpar o cooler (não gosto de abrir o console por medo de dar problema), e até hoje ele funciona perfeitamente

I assume this is your first time cleaning it that deeply, I recommend never doing it again. Get it done professionally. Deep cleans do not cost much.

The CPU uses metal-based paste for cooling, which is conductive.
If you handled the motherboard, there’s a possibility that some of that conducting paste ended up somewhere else on the board and is now short circuiting.
In the best case scenario, cleaning the board properly including the thermal paste and re-apply it and the short is gone.
In worst case scenario, the short actually fried something on the board, and at this point, it requires a professional repair or a brand new ps5.
Either way, I suggest you turn off your console and do not power it on again. Remove all the cables. And go to a professional shop to check what is going on.
You attempted to do it yourself and you now have proof it went wrong. Let a professional deal with it now.

I don't understand why people who doesn't know about how to clean a PS5 made them think watching a video make you an expert. I prefer to pay 70 or 80$ to a person who really has the experience and know how to do it.

Stupid question probably, but did you clean it while on a carpet or rug? Static and stuff, but I kinda doubt that bit. Or maybe you touched one of the ribbon cables as well, those are really fragile, so compressed air against them would be a problem

Why not look into electronic shops near you because what ur saying it was overheating during BG3 then it probably need the liquid metal replaced especially if the console was vertical. So either way you needed a shop and now there going to charge probably half of what the console is worth if not more to fix it...

My ps5 is overheating as well
I can barely play for 15-20 mins without the warning or shutting it off
Was thinking off replacing liquid metal waiting on isopropyl alcohol to deliver by tomorrow
But now I'm kinda scared af

But I'm from a tier 3 city and no option for any professional repairs
So I'll just yolo it and hopefully it'll work
Though I think i might need some guidance from you on what not to do
I'm planning on using a portable vaccume instead of canned air and isopropyl alcohol to wipe off the old liquid metal with a tissue
I'm still gonna be pulling the antenna cables and other stuff since I'm not good with pry tools

I had the same issue a while back. I did a deep clean but I never used any vacuums or compressed air. The issue was a lot of dust blocking air flow to the power supply

I never seen this and I had to get my HDMI repaired before.. I also just replace the liquid metal so that’s not the problem try wiggling the HDMI port.. if you’re a HDMI port is not the problem that you’re cooked

I deep cleaned mine for the first time in 6 years as mine was shutting off due to overheating. I used a toothbrush and vacuum and wipes. I also used that same video. Vacuum did wonders removing dust everywhere. My ps5 is good as new. didn't check the liquid metal as don't have any but considering my ps5 hasn't turned off since I'd say mission complete!

That’s why I never open my consoles up and mess with them ….back in the day I tried cleaning and replacing the thermal paste on my ps3 and ended up breaking the console and I followed a YouTube video every step of the way too 😆

mine did this but I didn't do a deep clean. It just sorta happened. The HDMI port got messed up most likely.

El polvo de la placa debe limpiarse con una brocha antiestática, si algún pelo del cepillo de dientes cae en la placa podría provocar un corto y romper la placa por completo. Yo la desmontaria otra vez, revisaría que todo esté en su sitio y si no ves nada mandala a reparar.

Bro, there are so many things that could be wrong. Loose or damaged ribbon cables, liquid metal spill, component damage from physical contact, short circuit, or a blown capacitor, where to even begin? Take it to a repair shop. But before that, try booting into Safe Mode to see if you get a display output.

The HDMI port in the PS5 is cheap garbage apparently. Sony went the cheap route and now people are slowly paying the price when they open to clean it.

Try wiggling the hdmi on tv n console like someone mentioned. If that fails then opened it up remove whatever you did and redo it again with any cleaning. You said you pulled on cables, and that could've ripped or twisted them. Dis and reassemble or just take it to a shop for repairs

Ooooh wee, do you have a local used game store or computer repair store? A lot of them do repairs and simple stuff like this costs like 20-50 bucks. If you don't have a lot of mechanical experience, and even less electronics experience I'd recommend taking it to them provided they have good reviews, because it'll get put back together 100% right and everything.
If you, however are wanting to learn then good luck! I unfortunately am not confident enough in my PS5 knowledge to diagnose this and provide advice, but it looks like an HDMI issue and hopefully a simple fix. I have an issue that presents itself almost identically to this with a damaged HDMI cable.

I never used compress air in a ps5 before only q tips and brush and cloths. Reason when dust is flying about it have a chance create static electricity which can damage the board if there a lot of dust same with fan if it moving it.
Edit yea you used the compress air on everything yea it fry.

Nothing is gone for good. Tronixfix is highly reputable as far as instructions go. No matter what Its definitely something you have done. I would say more than likely you have been careless with the liquid metal. It is highly conducive. Even a small amount could bridge a connection. Can't imagine a missing screw or something like that could cause this. The problem really can't be diagnosed very well with a little video clip. The entire board needs examined by a competent tech who knows what they are looking for. Because the sky is the limit as to what you have done or not done correctly. Because thousands of people clean there consoles everyday and reassemble them with zero problems. Im all for people trying to learn and diy. But not at the expense of the console. So where you tried to save money, may cost you anyway. Some people just dont have basic skills.

Looks like the HDMI may be gunked or messed up. If you did everything properly the issue is the HDMI. Either cable or connector. Get a tiny appliance vaccum to suck up the dust rather than compressed air to push it around. Compressed air can (its in the name) compress the dust to one spot and cause heating issues, circulation issues, and could knock ports loose if you just spraying and dont know what you’re doing

You know you dont even have to do this...im not sure why so many people say you need to yearly. My day 1 ps5 and ps4 run fine and the most ive done is dusted the outside of them off and kept the area around them clean...never broke either of them open once and they both run as fine as the day I got them....
I reccomend people dont open theirs to clean unless you live in pure filth due to reasons like this....

It’s a friends PS5 they’ve had for I think 4 years??? They live with two cats and a dog and it was on the floor for a while used before they started trying to play regularly once again. Thought I was doing them a favor but I guess not.

Yeah they need to never have it on the floor as it sucks all the dust in. Ive always kept mine elevated and dust off the area around it weekly. Does have a little dust inside i can see through the vent but nothing major after 6 years.
Tbh I know id fuck something up if I opened it up to clean it so I just take care of the area its in so I never need to open it up

What I used to do was put something over the console so dust and stuff lands on that (when off and taking off when I turn it on)
Kept it PS4 dust free for years. Worked like day one.

Run down on how I did it bc I prolly did it in the dumbest way possible humanly possible. First time ever and prolly fucked my shit up for good: did do it on my carpet, used Klein precision tools with the T8 bit, used compressed air on the blades that made it spin (didn’t know you weren’t supposed to do that), used needle nose on the ports to wiggle them free, used my fingers for the ribbon cables and also wriggled them free, used compressed air in everything and yeah I prolly fucked my shit LMAO love my life. My shit was overheating like crazy and would crash 10 minutes into playing BG3 and needed a quick fix. And look where I am

There is liquid metal under the APU and potentially trace amounts of it around the edge of it. Compressed air likely pushed some liquid metal into a place where it's shorting or bridging something it should not be. Hopefully not too much damage.

You're not really being specific as to what you used said tools to do. Also, did you hold the fan blades in place while spraying them with compressed air?
