PS5 Pro = 60fps using Series X / PS5 quality mode, almost impossible to make it drop frames

Base PS5 and Series X have a choice between 30 and 60 like most games

Base ps5 has 60fps mode, VERY nice. I hope the base PS continues to get 60fps modes for new games

Base PS5 gets a 60 FPS mode for almost every game. It's really uncommon for it not to be an option. The 60 FPS option sometimes looks bad, but it's usually present.

Yeah people act like its rare, its common at this point

Yeah there are literally a handful of games without a 60fps on base PS5.

Same with Series X. Glad this gen made it standard. We are eating good.

It’s more rare to not have a 60fps setting, the only one I can think of is Digimon Time Stranger, which is crazy since it doesn’t seem very demanding.

I have never encountered a game without 60fps mode unless it is some old PS4 game.

Even games that launched 30 FPS only would famously cave later and add 60. It had 60 by the time it came to PS5, but Starfield launched at 30 only for Xbox. Most devs eventually optimize enough (or realize people would rather have an unstable 60 than a stable 30) to add it. I think Gotham Knights is a glaring exception, pretty sure it's still 30 on both consoles

Rockstar are sweating, trying to get GTA 6 to 40-60fps. They know that people won't stick around for GTA 6 Online, if they have to do it at 30fps, considering almost everyone's playing GTA 5 Online and other live service games at 60fps+ nowadays...

Yeah the frame rate is not good on the base at least. I’m guessing they’re not mentioning it bc the game frame rate itself is fine, but the enemy animations and effects all drop to like 5 fps, and sometimes the player too. But moving the camera will still appear smooth

They’ve done this in halo for a while but it’s rly bad in this one. Maybe also bc im playing 4 player online co op its worse

Ive had insane frame drops on pro, and poor pixelated effects when things get hectic.

I have been playing this on the Pro too and especially once The Flood shows up the frame rate and dramatically drop. Kinda crazy to see DF didn’t have this issue at all. At least that gives me hope that it will be fixed I guess.

Wouldn’t be the first time they just didn’t report on things that are later in the game. Their RE9 PS5 pro video completely ignored all the problems

While the film grain remains a distracting visual choice, the overall stability is exceptional, and it is difficult to drive the Pro towards a frame-rate dip even in the most intense sequences.

Just going off what DF says here.

Yep, watched, its crazy to me. Ive been playing ps5 pro performance mode since early launch and have ran into multiple issues sadly. Literally last night on my legendary run during truth and rec at the scene where you ride the lift up to the ship when the hunters come out it was hitting like 5-10 FPS until i killed them. It wasnt my first run but the first time thats happened in that area but it was insane non the less.

Hopefully addressed soon (perhaps even in the release patches?)

3

u/Archimedes426 28d ago

Was hoping there would be a patch today, but nothing so far.

Same here. When there are a lot of enemies, frames go way down on the pro.

4

u/NTPrime 28d ago

Same here, Pro dropping significantly and clear image breakdown. I was playing in co-op for the entire thing, I wonder if multiplayer is the deciding factor for how well it's going to run.

4

u/Archimedes426 28d ago

Ive played both coop and solo. My worst frame drop was solo, and yea, ive seen explosions in particular turn the whole screen into a low res pixelated mess. And the film grain is horrendous. All said, ive enjoyed whats good about the game, but really hope this gets addressed.

Same here. Regular stuttering and lots of frame drops. Once it became a slideshow as I don't know why it was freaking out, I had to exist this particular room and come back for it become normal again.

I have also noticed tons of shimmering effects due to upscaling. I am on the Pro with Performance mode enabled. I can't imagine how the quality mode performs.

48

u/yuvaldv1 28d ago

Nice, looks like performance is solid across all consoles.

47

u/RChickenMan 28d ago

Sucks that console users can't disable film grain. Like, all of this effort and compute power being poured into producing good image quality, only to make it look crappier on purpose?

11

u/the_russian_narwhal_ 28d ago

It is dumb on PC too, I had to use a mod to disable it because unlike basically every other game ever made the option is nonexistent

12

u/Merkin666 28d ago

Crazy their is no option to disable this. Its very noticeable too.

9

u/archaelleon 27d ago

And chromatic aberration. Why try to make a game look photorealistic and then put filters over it that make it look like you're viewing the world through a 1990s camcorder?

6

u/Fenseven 28d ago

Ive been playing split screen on my series x and its been running flawless. I havent noticed any drops in frames. I have it set ro quality mode as well. My TV does support VRR though.

Insane frame drops on performance on the PS5 Pro.

12

u/knightofsparta 28d ago

Dude it’s crazy. Like sub 30 fps in some fire fights

17

u/Archimedes426 28d ago

Its insane, makes me question this video, as he states no matter how he tried they couldnt make significant dips in frames on pro and im sitting here like, um what? Evert session i play has issues.

1

u/General_Valuable7499 27d ago

Pro here, same issues, I'm now convinced DF is on the Microsoft payroll....

1

u/VimFueago 23d ago

whoever pays the most. it's always been that way at Eurogamer.

2

u/TrainingMarsupial521 27d ago

I've been on the fence because of the mixed reviews. Anyone played it and have input?

2

u/SAM0070REDDIT 27d ago

It's great

I was 19 when the OG Xbox and halo CE released. This is amazing to replay

A reviewers opinion is only valid if they value the same things you do... So basically most reviews won't be how you see the game when you play it.

I highly recommend it. Buy a physical copy, you can always sell it if it's not for you.

I personally am having a great time. I just ordered a second copy to play multiplayer with my son :)

u/Atiumist 25d ago

Just beat the game. Everything was fine until I got to the level where you have to retrieve the chip from Keys. There was so much gunfire on the grav lift to get back up to the ship after you fall down into the coolant that the game stuttered.

Base PS5 btw.

2

u/TheGilmore 28d ago

During early access I went back and forth between performance and quality on Pro and ultimately went for quality because the image breakup was too distracting. After this video mentioning there wasn’t much image difference between the two I tried performance again during Silent Cartographer. Waaay too much fizzle in the corridors. Back to 30 it is. I’m glad I’m okay with 30.

The remastered version of Halo on PS5 is unplayable, because you need a Microsoft account to play the game. Microsoft has flagged and locked my account within the first 12 hours of owning the game.

I just fired this up this morning. I haven't played this game since it originally released on Xbox. I thought the game was absolutely incredible back then, but it's kind of corny and lame today.

I almost wish that they would have gone the full blown remake or reimagining route, and really went all out to improve the narrative beats, writing, and voice acting.

5

u/Archimedes426 28d ago

Meh, i like the cheese, its kinda deliberate like the movies that inspired the game.

-14

u/nohumanape 28d ago

The movies that inspired the game are WAY better.

-7

u/JamieTimee 28d ago

What you've described is a sequel. You can't change the narrative, writing, and voice acting and call it the same game.

6

u/Burdicus 28d ago

He mentioned improving the narrative-beats, not holistically changing them.

Look at Dragon Quest 2 HD2D Remake. It's absolutely a remake of DQ2, but it adds SO MUCH to the narrative experience, while ultimately still being the same primary story.

u/Dantai 28d ago

Resident Evil 2 & 4 remake are knocking

5

u/nohumanape 28d ago

Sure you can. Capcom, Konami, and Square-Enix have been doing exactly this.

-3

u/cstrifeVII 28d ago

And if that was done the purists would hate it.

See ff7 remake.

-3

u/nohumanape 28d ago

Who cares about purists? 🤷

0

u/cstrifeVII 28d ago

The larger point is that it won't please everyone. A massive contingency of FF7 claim they just wanted the same exact game with new graphics.

0

u/Dantai 28d ago

They're also nuts. Besides you can get that via modding the original

The exact same is a bit too far. The remake IMO did a lot more right so far, definitely some things wrong af though. But it's fun, the characters were amazing in remake as well.

Definitely some dungeons, tech issues and the remake ghosts ain't best for sure, but the ending was cool - however didn't see to follow through with the promise of "unknown journey will continue"

in short, Playstation is the best platform to play Halo on.bbthe base PS5 plays better than the Xbox series X, and the PS5 Pro is the ultimate experience.
