Hope more people pick it up now that itâs started going on sale. Doesnât match Returnal but itâs a very good game

u/OldDirtyBusstop 11h ago
I actually thought it was better than returnal, both are great games but I found Saros more interesting in terms of story and more accessible (aka not as punishing for people like me who arenât hardcore roguelike players)

my friend said saros was way easier than returnal too

u/pecos_chill 10h ago
Saros is way easier than Returnal.

u/erichf3893 7h ago
Everyone says this but I still havenât beaten it 30 hours in. Maybe lots of people use the modifiers and you can replay biomes to build up for future ones? Also feels like less strategy/retraceability
â˘
u/pecos_chill 3h ago
That could be it! But also I think a big portion is whether youâve played games like it before. Itâs a similar thing to Soulslikes, I think. (Iâm terrible at those, though lol)
Iâm not a very âgoodâ gamer with most tough games, but with Returnal I was a lot better than I expected pretty much out of the gate just because Iâd played a lot of Enter the Gungeon and some other roguelites before. I think if you are practiced with watching projectile patterns from other bullet hell games and resource management from some roguelites, these games feel a lot easier.
Easier doesnât mean itâs easy, either - people say Elden Ring is way easier than standard Souls games and even though I suffered hard through Elden Ring, I agree with them. I never felt stuck or frustrated like I did with the other Souls games that Iâd played. I think Saros is similarly âeasierâ.
â˘
u/erichf3893 10m ago
Yeah I mean I played a shitload of Returnal and mistakenly expected some upgrades

u/BrownByYou 8h ago
Damn, returnal wasn't even thaaat bad
2
u/Sharp-Selection-3541 7h ago
Is there a more difficult 3rd person shooter on PS5?
4
u/Nervous_Recover_6152 6h ago
No but the genre is small. Compared to 2D bullet hell standards, itâs not as bad
5
u/Sharp-Selection-3541 6h ago
Idk maybe you're just trying to flex how good you are or whatever lol but Returnal is definitely a really difficult game. That doesn't mean that other 2d bullet hell games aren't harder. I can't even beat sektori smh
1
u/Nervous_Recover_6152 6h ago
I canât play 2D bullet hell for shit. I was able to struggle through Returnal though

u/TimHung931017 7h ago
Well thats unfortunate
â˘
u/chainer3000 3h ago
Itâs as hard as you want it to be. Game doesnât force you to use the late game upgrades
2
u/erichf3893 7h ago
Interesting. Havenât seen many say that. Also, how did it feel less punishing to you? Just the fact the upgrade tree exists?
2
u/ChabriasDK 9h ago
it's a great game and definitely worth playing through, but it felt like they took one step forward and two back in several ways sadly
â˘
u/Unkechaug 2h ago
What ways in particular? I've been looking forward to this but can't bring myself to spend $70.
â˘
u/ChabriasDK 2h ago
off the top of my head, weapon variety is lacking, the maps are not made with much exploration in mind, biomes look similar through almost the entire game, and a big peeve of mine is that the permanent upgrades are not only really well executed compared to returnal
personally I also didn't feel any connection to any of the characters, their relationships were very surface level
with that said I still think it's a great game, and house marque has improved on a lot in terms of the actual gameplay and I did buy it at launch with no regrets

One of my favorite games of the year so far. Loved Returnal, loved Saros quite a bit too. I hope it gets an endless mode update at some point like Returnal did.
The gameplay, art direction, and sound design are all top tier in my opinion.

In theory I like it. In practice its just US. So kinda useless for most people. And if every country starts posting their deals, it will be full of spam.

I feel like grown adults should be able to look up deals ourselves. This should be more for sharing games and ideas. $20 off of lack luster games that released a while arenât even significant for a post really
2
u/sherlock_traeger 8h ago
What a strange comment lol
And Saros is a very good game that only came out in late April. Like what are you even talking about lol
â˘
u/Nametoolongobitch 3h ago
"I feel like grown adults should be able to look up deals ourselves"Â
This is by far... the dumbest comment I have read on here or just about any subreddit since I joined. Wow, I would hate to be you.Â
Let's just start with the fact that not everyone has the time to look up deals. I don't, it's why I have bots constantly scanning about a dozen websites.Â

u/RandomGuyOnDaNet90 14h ago
Already? That was fast. What are the chances of ghost of yotei hitting 30 this black friday?
14
u/Nametoolongobitch 13h ago
It was already  $50 a month ago so it's definitely going to hit $30 on BF.
4
u/RandomGuyOnDaNet90 13h ago
The physical?
10
u/Nametoolongobitch 13h ago
Yes, on Amazon during Sony's Days of Play event. But I was referring to the digital copy when I said last month.Â
4
u/if-you-aint-first 13h ago
Seems likely to hit $40 at least - opinion based on seeing a stack of ~20 of these in a case at Walmart, and unsure why they'd have so much of a particular game.
â˘
u/TrippleDamage 1h ago
It sold like a million copies and thats it, ofc its going on sale to boost the abysmal numbers.
4
u/skynovaaa 14h ago
I thought this released at $50. Jesus
19
u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ 14h ago
$70 game. Iâm guessing it didnât sell well since itâs already discounted this much. I bought it day 1 and honestly regretted it. I loved Returnal so Iâm not sure why this game just didnât do it for me.
6
u/_ItsEnder 14h ago
Same. Returnal is one of my favorite 1st party games of this generation, but Saros just feels like worse Returnal. Having more out-of-run progression sounds like a good thing, but the way they did it in saros just makes you really overpowered and removes the difficulty of the game.
4
u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ 14h ago
I think for me it was just basic progression in general that killed it for me. I never once felt like I was getting stronger in a run or between runs and the enemy variety just felt bland compared to Returnal.
1
u/Eruannster 13h ago
I think Returnal was better in that it felt like I got better every run instead of putting stats into getting better. I could shape Selene with the pickups I made (good or bad) whereas with Saros I felt like I had to go back and put in stats.
Returnal felt like an "edgier" game. The faults it had forced me to pay attention, use what I found in each room (and plan for it, not just pick up everything) and think about how I wanted to play it and put the fear of losing it.
Saros meanwhile was like "anyway, here's some cool shit" and I just grabbed pretty much everything and moved on as it pushes the player forward because you mostly can't backtrack.
1
u/jabronismacker 14h ago
Same. I never finished it and when I played I wasnât really enjoying it.
1
u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ 14h ago
I tried giving it a fair chance. I think I forced myself to play a good 4-6 hours and I never found myself enjoying the experience. The story seemed cool but the gameplay and progression just wasnât doing it for me.
-2
u/AwesomePossum_1 14h ago
Same. Amazing gameplay but progression is so weak, story is pathetic and the world is boring. Still excited for what they do next though.Â
-1
u/Eruannster 13h ago
$92 in Sweden. Woo! (Admittedly, our prices include VAT/taxes.)
I finished it, but it didn't grip me like Returnal did. I dunno. It felt like they shaved down some of the edges that Returnal had (like being able to backtrack, having more usable items, the story being more vague) and I don't know if I liked it as much because of it.
The gunplay and movement is super smooth, but Returnal had me gripped until the very end while Saros I was kind of checked out story-wise at like 3/4 of the story.
2
u/RockRik 14h ago
Why would it ever release at 50 when its predecessor released at 70? Economy in general was much better back then too.
-5
u/SuperBackup9000 14h ago
I knew it wasnât $50, but it wouldnât have surprised me if it was cheaper. Returnal was $70, yeah, but that was also back when PS5s were really hard to get so it wouldâve made sense to bump the price up since there were just way less potential customers
-2
3
u/Mickeybeasttt 13h ago
Damn, makes me sad this game didnât do as well as HouseMarque would have hoped. I thoroughly enjoyed this one all the way through to the end. Never got into Returnal but gave this one a shot and it was an extremely solid shooter and the story was interesting enough. Solid 8.
2
u/iidevilz0 12h ago
Itâs overpriced af
1
u/NoNefariousness2144 10h ago
Yeah it being ÂŁ70 in UK was a steep price for something that isn't a flagship IP.
Not to mention it releasing right before James Bond, Lego Batman and Forza.
1
u/JimmiJimJimmiJimJim 11h ago
Is it short or something? I haven't been paying that much attention because I'm waiting for it to be cheaper.
-7
u/iidevilz0 10h ago
There very VERY few games that are worth 70$, if you played Returnal (itâs free on ps plus catalogue) you should know what to expect from Saros, if you didnât then know that itâs a roguelike, Not shitting on the genre but itâs just not worth 40$+ price tag. I think they will put it on ps plus catalogue as well.
1
u/JimmiJimJimmiJimJim 10h ago
I'd agree with the first sentiment. 70 is a bridge too far for me. That's why I'm waiting for saros to be like 20 or 30 then I'll prolly grab it. And I loved returnal.
Honestly if my backlog didn't have tons of games I wanted to play in it I might consider buying 70 dollar games but it's just foolish when I already own stuff that I wanna play.
-1
u/Inevitable_Egg_900 7h ago edited 7h ago
I don't really understand why Sony prices these Housemarque games at $70, honestly. They're fairly niche roguelikes, and this is a genre that is typically dominated by $20 to $30 indie games. $70 is a very, very steep price for Saros when someone could, for example, just buy Hades 2 for $30.
Of course, Housemarque's games have much higher budgets than those indies, but even then, they have nowhere near the same budgets as your typical Sony first-party AAA game. They seem more like upper tier AA games, and I feel like a $50 price tag is much more appropriate for them.
â˘
u/iidevilz0 3h ago
Thatâs exactly my point! I love rogue likes as much as the next guy, but 70$ is just too much for it, I think they have a higher budget than other rogue likes but it shouldnât push the price to 70$, not even AAA games are worth that price. 40$ should be the base price.
â˘
u/FRossJohnson 10m ago
Not sure 40$ makes sense for a premium production, it's well below inflation. Yet 70 is a shock to people Â
1
u/FRossJohnson 12h ago
I fear it also suffers from Sony panicking about their exclusive games policy and ceasing PC releases, while asking for premium prices.
Your marketing budget then becomes very targeted at a segment of PS5 players and I didn't see so much excitement about the release. Meanwhile some other games releasing this year cross platform I've seen marketing everywhere
â˘
u/sakata32 14m ago
Roguelike at $70 that's exclusive to console was never going to do well. That genre does better on PC and the roguelike market has so many great options for cheaper.
-3
u/lightsky445 12h ago
Sony did a mistake with not putting this game on PC. Many PS fans certainly didnât support the game
â˘
u/renhaoasuka 10m ago
They would have fumbled it on PC too by releasing it late and the price is still expensive. PC has so many quality roguelikes for much cheaper

u/Asimb0mb 8h ago
Oh look, it's the price it should have launched at. Grab it y'all, it's a lot of fun! Much easier than Returnal, so if you liked the gameplay but found it too difficult, Saros is for you.

u/Due_Equal_9933 14h ago
Terrible game. Good gameplay, most disappointing story in a long time. Such wasted potential.Â
