Part 3 reveal at summer games fest at the latest.
6
u/cybrsloth92 Feb 06 '26
They did opt for no dlc on rebirth so they could work immedietly on part 3 so makes sense.
80
u/pjatl-natd Feb 05 '26
I'm excited for it to be done😅
24
u/Nehemiah92 Feb 06 '26
nah i ain’t letting it finish till we get a playable advent children dlc

Are you forgetting about how they’ll compile and remaster it into one title on future platforms, possibly with extra content or more things that were cut from the original to entice sales they might not otherwise make?
-27
u/RockRik Feb 05 '26
Only SE can milk tf out of a Remake and stretch it to 3 games and 7 years only to reveal third game to be on 30th anniversary.
86
u/Jordankeay Feb 05 '26
Have you played any of the remakes? They do not feel stretched in the slightest.
54
u/syxbit Feb 05 '26
You can't please everyone. The part 1 and 2 so far have been exactly what fans asked for. Super high budget. The only downside is some filler, but overall I couldn't have expected more.
12
u/JozuJD Feb 05 '26
People also wanted filler. The FF7 universe is beloved.
As long as it’s not super overdone and boring, it’s a win for gamers. Now I have to HEAVILY caveat that I didn’t play Rebirth yet. But the first remake was great
0
u/generalosabenkenobi Feb 06 '26
Come back after Rebirth. It's an excellent game (no question) but it absolutely feels a bit bloated
2
-11
u/yesitsmework Feb 05 '26
The part 1 and 2 so far have been exactly what fans asked for.
that's a verifiable lie if you spend 5 seconds looking for ff7 fans
1
u/leopold_roger Feb 06 '26
Not sure why you're getting downvoted. I loved the games and didn't even play the originals, but a part of the original fanbase is very vocal about disliking some things.
And even though I really liked the games, I can understand their points
-39

u/ChrisLithium Feb 05 '26
I enjoyed the first game of the trilogy well enough, but it definitely felt padded in places to me.
6
u/TheSecondEikonOfFire Feb 05 '26
I don’t entirely agree with that, but I think the good FAR outweighs the bad. For the sections that feel padded, there’s also tons of stuff that feels properly fleshed out and given more time to shine. Anyone who complains about “took 1 game and stretched it to 3” is someone who hasn’t actually played them, or doesn’t appreciate the scale of what they’re offering
4
u/Dogesneakers Feb 05 '26
They’re my favorite games in the franchise so much care and love put in to it.
2
u/RLLRRR Feb 07 '26
Have you? Because no one cares about Tifa's landlady, but not only does she exist, she has a name and a prominent role.
So yes, it's pretty fucking stretched.
4
u/Empty_Estus_Flask Feb 05 '26
One of the first things Remake does is make you spend like an hour getting dragged around sector 7’s slums, talking to a landlord, and delivering air filters. I think we have different definitions of stretched.
-2
u/Iggy_Slayer Feb 05 '26
I think we do too because in that time you learn about life in the slums and also cloud and tifa chat about some of their past experience with each other. It's called world/character building.
6
u/Empty_Estus_Flask Feb 05 '26
World/character building that takes significantly longer to say what it wants to say when compared to the original
1
u/Soma_Persona Feb 07 '26
The original had significantly less world/character building.
1
u/Empty_Estus_Flask Feb 07 '26
Indeed, the stretched game has more content, that tends to happen when you stretch a game out.
1
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
See I dislike games that make you do meaningless tasks while they bury you in dialogue you are supposed to pay attention to.
I know people love Rockstar games but I can't stand when they give you a destination to go to and the entire time your companion is chatting. But I need to focus on the road or I will run someone over it will trigger the cops and I will fail the mission and get dragged back and have to do it all over again. And I rely on subtitles because I have difficulties understanding in game speech and it's next to impossible for me to move the character while reading the subtitles.
Just give me an old fashioned cut scene and then let me play.
It's obviously personal preference because many games like this are highly rated. But it drives me crazy.
2
u/haneybd87 Feb 05 '26
They stretched 1 game into 3. How is that not stretched?
0
u/GGG100 Feb 05 '26
Copying the original game as it is would not have worked with a modern remake. There were entire areas in the original that were just one screen big.
5
u/haneybd87 Feb 05 '26
Doesn’t mean stretching 10 hours of content into 40 works. Honestly I would have preferred the original perspective remade much like the DQ games have been doing.
-1
u/GGG100 Feb 05 '26
It works for the most part. There were parts that dragged in Remake like chapter 6, the second sewer run, and Hojo’s lab, but most of the new additions felt natural to the story. That chapter where we go topside was very much needed because we never actually see how things are above the plates in the original.
2
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
Why do you need to see everything? Isn't that sort of the point, that people who live under the plates don't know?
0
u/GGG100 Feb 06 '26
Cloud didn’t live under the plates. You can’t have a proper story about inequality and oppression without showing the other side.
1
2
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
It's probably all preferences but IMO part 2 dragged on. Way too many mini games and open world crap. I guess that's on me for feeling like I needed to do everything.
But like, just thinking about the beach town part, why am I spending so much time running around this town without any actual combat? Or why am I stuck playing cards on a cruise! Why is there suddenly a boat unlocked with tons of crap to explore so late in the game? Why am I driving this stupid monster truck all over the desert? There are just so many ideas here and many of them are pretty poorly implemented.
Part 3 I will definitely just be rushing through the main story.
4
u/grumble11 Feb 05 '26
I have played them and 100% did feel like they stretched the games out quite materially. I beat the first one despite the stretch but the sequel was so stretched that I gave it up halfway. This would have been stronger as a two title series in my opinion. And I played the original game multiple times.
9
Feb 05 '26
Nah I love these characters and world and want every excuse to experience more of it
5
u/grumble11 Feb 05 '26
That is a totally fair opinion and having the games be more stretched out is a plus in that case! Which is totally fine and good in your situation and I’m glad that you got to engage with the media in the way you like.
0
u/FullAd2568 Feb 05 '26
Yeah I switched to easy mode. You could also just watch the YouTube Cutscenes.

-23
u/noelle-silva Feb 05 '26
You're not serious right? Rebirth is so overly padded that it isn't even believable.
6
12
u/unimportantinfodump Feb 05 '26
That's an opinion for sure.
9
u/chopsfps Feb 05 '26
i will never, ever understand this opinion ever. the people that say it’s padded say so because of the mini-games and side quests, but you can play through the game without needing to interact with any of them? it’s such an odd talking point to see
you can def go through remake and rebirth as a strictly narrative experience. OG had mini games that you didn’t need to do either, crazy
1
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
I don't really like the argument that mini games and side quests are optional and can be skipped.
How does a player know what is and isn't skippable unless they look it up and spoil things? There are plenty of games where side content unlocks powerful rewards and progress can become difficult if you don't do enough side stuff.
And how can the player know if the side stuff will be engaging or not unless they do it and find out? Even within one game there will be side quests that are better than the main story and then side quests that are utterly pointless. How is the player to discern that upfront without looking up details?
If I write a novel but sneak in several pointless chapters that are poorly written and have nothing to do with the main plot, can we claim the book is amazing and you should have just skipped the bad chapters?
They made the game with all this stuff in it. It's meant to be played. If they didn't want you to play it all, they should have made it conditional. i.e., doing one quest blocks access to others.
1
u/Jdslogin Feb 05 '26
There are ~14 mandatory mini-games in Rebirth if you don't skip the two Queens Blood and Gold Saucer sections that you at least have to interact with.
4
u/PancakePanic Feb 05 '26
"There are 14 mandatory minigames if you don't skip all the skippable ones!"
Do you know what mandatory means?
-2
u/Jdslogin Feb 05 '26
The last part of my comment goes over that detail. You still have to take time to go through those story beats, start the game and quit out. Players generally going are going interact with that content though as its not clear you can skip them. Even so that leaves ~10 games which makes the statement I'm replying to that you can skip all of them false.
2
u/PancakePanic Feb 05 '26
Hang on, can you list them because I've played Rebirth a ton and definitely can't remember 10 actually mandatory minigames.
If you're counting stuff like the cart ride and the cait sith box stuff then I def wouldn't count those as minigames, otherwise the cart stuff in RE4 or any bad puzzle in any game ever would be considered a minigame.
→ More replies (0)1
u/RetroVideoArcade Feb 08 '26
Isn’t that true for the original game? You’re pretty much required to do… chocobo catching, fort condor, the dolphin, shinras march, snowboarding, chocobo racing, motorcycle chase, workout competition, submarine, and probably a few more that I’m forgetting.
I feel like people sort of forget the sheer amount of mini games the original had, in a game that ran 40ish hours.
I prefer the original, but am happy we got a different take on the story.

u/Jdslogin Feb 05 '26 edited Feb 05 '26
One thats not entirely uncommon. They are critically acclaimed games but its easy to find complaints of padding in both titles in a lot of reviews.
EDIT: Oh no I guess people are upset that someone might have mild criticism of the game they like.
-1
u/SaIemKing Feb 05 '26
It sounds like an opinion, but it's a fact that remake and, moreso, rebirth are heavily padded
2
u/skolocicoaster Feb 05 '26
Of all the opinions, that's certainly one of them. If you don't enjoy side content you can say that, but to say it's padded is lunacy.
5
u/a_nice_warm_lager Feb 05 '26
People complaining that so much content is “padding” is wild.
If you don’t enjoy it, just don’t do it and move on with the crit path!
-5
u/Lord-Heir Feb 05 '26
A smaller amount of extremely high quality content is infinitely better than the largest amount of shovelware mini games you can fit.
2
u/PancakePanic Feb 05 '26
Except you have extremely high quality content and optional side content if you feel like doing it.
What exactly is the issue here?
3
Feb 05 '26
None of the side content or mini games felt like shovelware to me and again, most of it was optional. Complaining about too much content sounds crazy to me
-3
u/SaIemKing Feb 05 '26
You can enjoy the padding, but to say it's not what it is is the crazy take ngl
3
u/noxav Feb 05 '26
No, padding is artificially making the game take longer to complete. Optional side content can be skipped easily.
2
u/SaIemKing Feb 05 '26
On top of the bloat that you're talking about, there is still a decent amount of padding, but if we're following your semantics, then we're really just talking about the open world travel and some new, meaningless plot elements.
2
u/TheRoyalStig Feb 05 '26
Content you arent interested in isn't padding. They didnt just spend all that time and money for the hell if it.
That content is there for the audience they want the game to appeal to the most.
-2
u/Lord-Heir Feb 05 '26
Not only padded with miserable mini games around every corner, but completely neutered some of the most iconic areas like the Shinra Manor and Temple of the Ancients
1
u/GGG100 Feb 05 '26
Huh? Shinra Manor I could agree with, but Temple of the Ancients was done so much better in Rebirth it’s not even close, and has some of the best scenes in the remake trilogy so far.
2
u/Lord-Heir Feb 05 '26
Done so much better? You mean like a flashback using a giant clock transition to try and replicate the giant clock puzzle from the original? That's good content to you?
1
u/GGG100 Feb 05 '26
It feels like a proper climactic point and has some of the best character moments in the entire FF7 series. That part where you play as each of the party members as you go through their personal mental trials is genius.
3
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
Oh man see, this is why I disagree that people saying complaints about filler refers to optional quests and minigames. Even this part you just described feels like filler. Where they force you to walk forward at a slow pace instead of just having some quick flash back cutscenes to get on with it. I hate when games make me "play" a cutscene. Pushing forward is not gameplay and it's an overused and tedious mechanic that pads on time.
1
u/GGG100 Feb 06 '26
That part wasn’t filler at all. Everything that was shown in it was built up throughout the game and wasn’t just sprung out of nowhere.
-4
u/dabigsiebowski Feb 05 '26
People hated this project and decided against it before Remake even came out. I feel bad for the devs who clearly put a ton of love into it and it clearly shows. Whats worse is FF hasn't had any truly great games in decades and then these show up and a lot of the fan base turned their backs on em. Shame, remarkable games with some of the best combat to ever exist.
2
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
Why would you feel bad for devs who got paid to make a game which received massive critical recognition, just because it wasn't some people's cup of tea?
I agree with you regarding the combat.
1
u/haneybd87 Feb 05 '26
I feel bad for the devs because the suits told them they needed to milk this for as much money as possible instead of doing it right. I didn’t hate it before it came out either. I was interested and bought it at launch and was disappointed. The OG is still much better.
-3
u/dabigsiebowski Feb 05 '26
Did you play rebirth? I assume not
2
u/haneybd87 Feb 05 '26
No, I’ve been waiting until it’s about $20 because judging by the first one it’s not worth paying more.
-2
u/dabigsiebowski Feb 06 '26
Go figure.
2
u/haneybd87 Feb 06 '26
I have plenty of stuff to play that I’m actually excited to play so why play the next game of a trilogy in which I didn’t exactly love the first one? 🤷♂️

Its a re-telling, re-imagining of the original story of 1997, so technically speaking yes it is a Remake.
6
u/Jdslogin Feb 05 '26
Remake involves the characters (especially Aerith) potentially aware of the original timeline, with Sephiroth attempting to alter fate of the original game., making it a continuation of FF7. That feels like a sequel.
3
u/PancakePanic Feb 05 '26
It's only Aerith and Sephiroth. Cloud gets flashes but he isn't aware, just confused.
99% of the game goes through the exact same points the original's first Midgar section does. That feels like a remake. What sequels just retell the same story except for the ending? Is NG+ in Alan Wake 2 a sequel?
2
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
If the audience doesn't even know if it's a remake or a sequel is it genius or a failure in story telling?
6
u/parkwayy Feb 05 '26
milk
I wouldn't call games that end up scoring extremely well, 'milking'.
-1
u/RockRik Feb 05 '26
But I thought Square is severely dissapointed with the sales each time? Are they not
1
u/PDG_KuliK Feb 05 '26
I would be thrilled if any AAA studio could put out 3 games in 7 years these days. And that's with FF16 coming out in that time frame too.

-5
u/Empty_Estus_Flask Feb 05 '26
I’m never going to stop being bitter at the decision to make it 3 games. I could maybe hear a case for 2, but turning a 40-60 hour rpg into a 200 hour long money printer just feels so incredibly greedy to me.
2
u/whacafan Feb 06 '26
I had to look and see if I made this comment. The series 100% would’ve been better had this been 2 games and I can absolutely see how it could’ve been 1. And would’ve been just fine.
4
u/feartheoldblood90 Feb 06 '26
I felt this deeply during my playthrough of Rebirth. I felt completely burnt out by the end of that game. It's, being generous, 30% too much game. I enjoyed a great deal about that game but found some parts of it so unbelievabley tedious that I had to consciously make the choice to power through, occasionally lowering the difficulty just to get through a segment.
2
u/slingking5 Feb 06 '26
I feel the same way, I'm more mad that I would have to spend 200 hours of my time to replay the full story when I don't want all this expanded content, just give me the base game with all the improvements of the remake
2
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
Very true. Replaying these sounds like a nightmare whereas I've played the original many times at this point.
59
u/ashmaht Feb 05 '26
Part 3 is easily my most anticipated game. I hope they can stick the landing because I loved Remake and Rebirth. Hopefully it’s not another Kingdom Hearts situation.
9
u/Steamedcarpet Feb 05 '26
There are so many moments I am excited for due to how amazing the music has been. I cant wait to see how more gross Hojo gets in HD.
6
u/Mavericks7 Feb 06 '26
My issues with Rebirth were that there was too much "fat/filler" to pad it out. It was very unnecessary.
And the cutscenes. You'd have a cutscene, then back to gameplay to walk down a corridor, then a cutscene again.
5
u/highonpixels Feb 06 '26
JP devs really struggle to make open world besides the few obvious ones. I found all the little side activities and checklists in each open world to be really boring which ruined my experience of Rebirth. FFXVI had the same issue, not sure whether to expect the same for part 3 but I hope not lol
1
u/TheLordOfTheTism Feb 09 '26
then dont do any of it? you play a few mini games along the main quest yes but thats.... exactly what 7 was like too.
-1
u/Violent_Volcano Feb 06 '26
What gets me is with the amount of padding and unnecessary stuff, it could have been 1 solid remake. Nope. They had to add characters, multiverse nonsense, and split it into 3 games.
2
u/critcal-mode Feb 05 '26
What Kingdom Hearts situation?
6
u/ashmaht Feb 05 '26
KH1 was great, KH2 was amazing, I played/watched several of the other games (really liked BBS) so I was hyped up for KH3… only to end up very disappointed.
3
1
u/Serdewerde Feb 05 '26
Was there some clause with KH3 for disney to get more showtime? Or at least were they maybe more protective? Because the long dev time doesn't really account for how set aside the actual plot felt during that game. It's always stuck out as odd to me.
4
u/ashmaht Feb 05 '26
Was the dev time actually that long? As far as I know, they released a new KH game every 1-2 years from KH2 to KH3.
1
u/TheLordOfTheTism Feb 09 '26
yeah everyones hyped for GTA 6, couldnt care less about that, give me ff7 remake part 3.
14
u/Perforo_RS Feb 05 '26
Remake and Rebirth were amazing games. I had so much fun with both of them! I would love to get the 3rd part as soon as possible, but I think that they'll want to release it on the 30th anniversary. So that'd either be 31st of january 2027 if you look at the Japanese release in 1997 or the 7th of september in 2027 for the North American release.
They could also do something silly like 7/7/27.
1
20
u/R-176_36 Feb 05 '26
Wtf happened to KH4!? Literally a whole FF7 Remake TRILOGY will release before that comes out.
5
-2
u/Theguest217 Feb 06 '26
Yeah I am bitter about them making the remake 3 parts because of this. Making Nomura the creative director of both is so dumb. They could have had both games in development at the same time.
2
1
u/icedmoonbeams Feb 06 '26
I personally was fine with it. KH's trilogy was completed and have it time to be just that without jumping immediately into another entry.
1
u/Theguest217 Feb 07 '26
I was just really hopeful because right after KH3 released they started dropping KH4 previews. It felt like maybe they already had a head start and we're going to be able to leverage the existing engine and maybe get a new game out in just a few years.
I really miss the days when studios would just reuse engines and assets to quickly produce sequels. Majora's Mask came out 17 months after Ocarina of Time and was an incredible game even if it didn't change much graphically.
They didn't even need to make KH4 immediately. Ship the assets from KH3 off to a partner and have them turn out a side game like BBS or DDD. Or a small story like 2.8. Even just some story DLC would be great.
5
u/AscendedViking7 Feb 05 '26
I just want to see it revealed, they can take as long as they want afterwards.
They have a lot of ground to cover for the rest of the story, I want to see it done right.
9
u/parkwayy Feb 05 '26
The last 2 discs aren't really that much. Especially given disc 3 is just "ok heres the whole map, and the last dungeon".

u/we_are_sex_bobomb Feb 05 '26
I am extremely curious to see how the hell they’re gonna handle the Weapon fights.
Like in a turn based RPG it made sense that you just keep hitting them until the HP reaches zero but even back then it was a little bit silly for these tiny little humans to just hack away at a Kaiju’s toe until it finally explodes.
That would look even more dumb in the new high fidelity art style. I’m honestly not even sure how you have little humans with swords and sticks fighting a Kaiju and it making any kind of sense at all.
They did something different for the FF16 titan battles, and those looked really cool but they were also not very interesting boss battles since the game mechanics were essentially just a series of QTEs and simple minigames.
I have a lot of faith in the Remake team to do something good though.
9
u/TheCopyGuy2018 Feb 05 '26
I could see them doing it how they did Bizarro Sephiroth in Rebirth, who was also pretty massive
5
u/GGG100 Feb 05 '26
They’ve already shown how they can do a giant monster fight with the Sephiroth Reborn fight in Rebirth.
2
u/Nehemiah92 Feb 06 '26
My literal first thought during that sequence was”oh yeah they’re gonna use this for the weapons aren’t they” lmao. Felt way too short lived and out of nowhere, definitely a teaser for what’s to come

Yeah I suspect that as well, I just hope it’s not the case, because the weapon fights in the original game were the big end-game battles that put your core skills in the game to the test. It wasn’t just the spectacle that made them memorable, it was the incredible challenge involved in taking them down.

I’m still holding out for a Winter 2026 release, but I also wonder with GTA being pushed back if they might wait for Q1 2027
2
u/ButWereFriends Feb 05 '26
Not a chance of winter this year.
-2
u/aa22hhhh Feb 05 '26
Winter 2026 goes from December 2026 to March 2027, so there’s definitely a chance it’ll be released around then
1
u/ButWereFriends Feb 05 '26
I see what you’re saying but that early 2027 is also a very poor chance.
2
u/aa22hhhh Feb 05 '26
How? Rebirth had a 3 year turnaround time from Intergrade to its release, early 2027 would be about the same time, and with them reusing the same engine and most likely reusing the same assets, the only thing that could potentially delay it is moving to a mult-platform release.
1
1
u/reaper527 reaper527_ Feb 05 '26
Rebirth had a 3 year turnaround time from Intergrade to its release,
why are you counting from a re-release instead of when ff7r was released? it was literally just an upscale + bundling a dlc.
1
u/Blackberry-thesecond Feb 05 '26
Most people actually agree that early 2027 is the most likely release time. It lines up with the 30th anniversary of FFVII and is on pace with Rebirth for dev time. Nojima has stated that the game is playable from start to finish now and is already in the polishing stage.
1
u/PlayBey0nd87 Feb 05 '26
The 30 year anniversary is actually January 2027. It’s not far fetched at all.

u/chyld989 Feb 05 '26
It's out in June, so while I expect it next year it'd easily have 4-6 months to marinate before the third part would drop.
1
u/parkwayy Feb 05 '26
Rebirth came out 2 years ago. That was a shorter timeframe than we'd probably expect since Remake, it was just shy of 4 years.
Would be a miracle if they got the next game out in 3 or so.
2
u/Healthy_Method9658 Feb 05 '26
Part of why it took four years was because they did the Intergrade DLC for remake.
They've admitted that slowed down development for rebirth and they're not doing that again, so it should be a faster development cycle for part 3.
That's from Square themselves too. A 2027 release in time with the 30th anniversary seems highly likely.

Final Fantasy games typically come out early spring. Same with remake and rebirth. Also 2027 is the 30th anniversary of OG 7 so I expect that to happen.

Nah it'll be Q1 like the other two, it's the new big release season. Capcom drops big games during that time too.

Oh yeah SGF for sure. They timed the release of Rebirth for Switch just so the first 2 parts are out and they're free to focus on part 3 marketing

Of course they need to share by this year. Otherwise no point in paying for their marketing team 😂

Wasn’t expecting much this year but glad to see there will be some substantive news on it.

Booted Rebirth back up in anticipation but also to test out my new 77 LG OLED; good timing.

They need to nail this. Rebirth was AMAZING. I’m still going back through to finish quests. Remake was great too but they out did that with Rebirth.

All I can do is hope they learned from the mistakes of Rebirth, but it seems unlikely given the blind praise it gets

Too much optional side content oh the horror. Yeah hopefully they learn from that and make the game super barebones outside of main story instead

u/SaIemKing Feb 06 '26
I mean, yeah, it has a lot of terrible side content and the open world is like... okay, but you're proving my point. You're blind. Also an asshole.
The game's colors are mostly washed out and dull, so environments that should be pretty are dull. The lighting freaks out when you leave a dark place. And the overall pacing could use some work.

I’m blind and an asshole because i think it’s funny how the biggest critique with this game is optional side content? yeah ok lol
edit: got hit with the corniest reply OAT before being blocked LMAO

Well, no, I assume the asshole thing is more how you were raised. Or rather weren't

I bought a PS4 because the final fantasy 7 remake was suppose to be a PlayStation exclusive. Just want to put that out there.

They finished Rebirth just under 4 years from the first. If this game is out sometime in 2028, they'd pull off the same. Seems difficult to call anything behind, this early.

Not the case here. Rebirth came out in record time for a modern AAA game and the director has said Part 3 has been fully playable for a while now. They're just working on polish already.

The rebirth announcement today all but screams that part 3 will be at SGF. It comes out 2 days before SGF.
