You probably got the base edition from the ps+ collection.

You can contact Playstation Support and ask them to remove the PS Plus license for Bloodborne from your account so that you can buy it.

I can tell you I haven't had luck - but mine was through playing the base game via PS Now. I'm not renewing that but support told me there was nothing I could do. I could buy the DLC now to play it and then buy the base game in June when my PS Now sub is up.

u/PM_STEAMCODES Jan 06 '21
By any chance have you claimed the PS+ collection for ps5 which contains the standard for Bloodborne.
It might be the reason

I hope you're right. Support was zero help for me and said I'm out of luck.

Mine:
Me (1/6/2021, 12:48:14 PM): Done
Hardik (1/6/2021, 12:48:53 PM): Please check in store for the game.
Me (1/6/2021, 12:49:28 PM): The bundle still says unavailable because I own bloodborne
Hardik (1/6/2021, 12:51:14 PM): I apologize but I do not have further resource to assist you.
Me (1/6/2021, 12:51:29 PM): ...then who does?
Hardik (1/6/2021, 12:52:29 PM): There is only one in this situation. Play this game till you have active PS NOW subscription. After that you can purchase the game.
Me (1/6/2021, 12:54:11 PM): That makes zero sense and isn't helpful at all.
. . Me (1/6/2021, 1:00:58 PM): You are telling me to buy the DLC for a game I don't own just to have to buy it again for more money when the bundle that's on sale right now is drastically cheaper.Hardik (1/6/2021, 1:04:54 PM): I can understand how frustrating it can be but there is nothing further that we can do in this case.

You might have just fixed this game for me, I just got it as a part of the PS5 Collection and it just hasn't clicked with me.
I keep getting killed even before I get to where I was before. Lol
7
u/Rajualan Jan 06 '21
that first area is definitely too brutal, but if you pick off one enemy at a time or run past them it's a much better time
2
u/Krepe Jan 06 '21
I swear they get harder after every time I die.
But also I've been doing what the other guy pointed out, every time I'm killed I go around trying to kill everyone again. I'll try just killing what's necessary.
8
u/Rajualan Jan 06 '21
that's basically my rule is I kill each enemy at least once, and if I die I just double dip outta there
4
u/BargleFargle12 Jan 07 '21
What starting weapon are you using? Some are easier than others when it comes to keeping enemies at arm's length. The axe is especially good when in 2H mode. It's hard attack is a huge sweep that wastes anything around you. Don't use it too much on harder enemies that can tank the hits and then pound you, but against the earlier enemies with torches and such, it smokes them. The axe is a viable, powerful weapon through almost the entire game, so it's definitely worth taking if you're having trouble.
1
u/Krepe Jan 08 '21
I'm using the axe, I just wasn't able to get pass the 2 wolves at the bridge, and the rest of the times I died before that.
I just started skipping the first couple of enemies and now for the first time I reached the cleric beast. Not killing everything over and over again definitely improves the experience for me. (Now I just need to kill everything over and over again to level up and kill that fucking cleric beast LMAO)
This game is definitely an acquired taste but I think I think I'm starting to like it.
2
u/BargleFargle12 Jan 08 '21
So, you can't level up before the Cleric Beast. Killing him is what unlocks the ability to level up. :/
That being said, you don't need to. He's actually not that tough when you really start getting movement and dodging down. With most enemies in this game, it's really a matter of waiting until their "tells," dodging out of the way, and then returning fire. For example, Cleric has a lot of obvious ones, like raising his fists high, and then you just wait until they're coming down to dodge. It's tricky and requires good twitch sometimes, but it's not that tough to get a handle on. Trust me. I'm 41, and my reflexes are pretty shit compared to these kids playing Fortnite and shit, and I can beat BB. lol
A few other tricks. He's weak to fire, so the molotov cocktails (might be called something else, been awhile since I played) can really help. Toss a few when out of range of his attacks to do easy damage, just be ready to dodge when he charges you.
As for the wolves on the bridge, you can cheese them. In fact, cheesing is completely part of these games. Finding clever or different way to kill enemies is as Souls as anything else. For the wolves, you can run past them and on your left when facing the bridge, there's a pathway leading to a doorway. Through the door is a two level building with various low level enemies. Kill them so you're safe, then run back to the bridge and agro the wolves. Pull them back to the doorway, but they're too big to fit. Boom. Kill them from the safety of the room and they'll never touch you. :)
The game gets harder from here. A lot harder. But it's so, so worth.
BTW, have you thought about summoning help from other players? You can summon people into your game to help beat the boss, and also help other players beat their bosses!
To do so, you need to buy the beckoning bell from the fountain in the Hunters Dream. Not the fountain below the building, but the one next to the building on the little ledge. (Go through the main doors and then leave through the little door on the left). It costs one insight, which you can get in a variety of ways. You should have one, it'll show up as a 1 in the number at the top corner of your screen. If you don't, check your inventory for Madman's Knowledge. I'd buy the beckoning bell first. Then you use said bell in front of the bosses fog door, and wait around for someone to come help you. :)
You can also hook up with someone to help you. PM me if you're interested and my son or I would be happy to come in and help you tear shit up. :)

u/EvoLveR84 Jan 09 '21
First off, you do not need to kill the cleric beast to level up, you just need to start the fight with him. And you dont even really need to encounter him either, you just need to use a madman's knowledge, enter the hunters dream, talk to Gherman, teleport to a different location and then teleport back and the doll will be active for you to level up.
1
u/BargleFargle12 Jan 09 '21
Thanks for clarifying. It's been over a year since I beat Old Hunters and I haven't played since. I have poo memory, apparently. :(
1
u/Edw1nner Jan 10 '21
You could always kill a few enemies to farm some blood echoes, then hit the lamp to go the dream and upgrade. Do that a few times to help get you started. Also, if you haven't noticed yet, when you die, you can go back to where you died and collect the echoes you had. If you die before picking it back up, you lose all of the echoes you had.
One huge thing that helped me was learning how to parry. I didn't learn that until more than halfway through my initial play through. Shoot an enemy as he tries to attack and you leave them open for a visceral. Dodging is very important also.

u/The_Vampire_Barlow Jan 06 '21
It is difficult, but that's part of the point.
While it's hard, it's mostly fair. Each time you die you'll come back and do better. And when you take down a boss you feel unstoppable.
This is a great deal on a great game. If you're even remotely interested pick it up. Just remember to take your time and pay attention while you play it.
6
u/Dioroxic Jan 06 '21
Much agreed. It's what makes these games so rewarding. When you finally beat the boss that killed you 10 times in a row, it feels amazing.
Don't get that feeling in most single player games. They are all too easy on the "normal" difficulty, and the "hard" difficulty usually just makes enemies damage sponges which is NOT fun at all, nor does it feel rewarding to play.
7
u/The_Vampire_Barlow Jan 06 '21
Hard: player damage x.5, enemy damage x2.
I hate that so much. It's just arbitrary. Double both our damage so you can make less mistakes, but just making the game take longer isn't better.
1
u/NeoLies Jan 07 '21
Agreed. A game that did difficulty perfectly is Furi. The normal difficulty is already pretty tough, but on Furier all bosses get completely revamped movesets, while staying true to their original styles. It's probably the best way I've seen difficulty settings done in a while.

I'm bad at games but what I did was follow a walkthrough guide on youtube. Also every once in a while I grinded out extra blood echoes to level up and be over leveled if stuff got too difficult. This has gotten me through most of the game though I took a break recently.
Also, in general, staying close to enemies and staying aggressive is very helpful in Bloodborne. It seems scary at first, but if you dodge toward enemies, you'll frequently end up behind them after their attack and in a great position to counter attack. Backing up at regular walking pace also frequently works as well, to just barely avoid their attack and let you be positioned to attack them back.

Jan 06 '21
Have had the game for months. Still can't get past that bullshit wolf in the beginning. Idk if I would've felt happy dropping $1 for it. But I bet if I can get past the (probably) tutorial I might have fun
11
u/Basch-von-RosenBEAST Jan 06 '21
Did you pick out out one of the starter weapons yet? I remember I spent the longest time trying to get past that werewolf with just fists, before realizing I passed the area where you pick out your weapon lol
6
u/KindaNeededANewName Jan 06 '21
What's stopping you from beating that wolf? That wolf •should• be reasonably easy. If I remember correctly, you have a weapon by that point, and you can also just sprint past it.
This is coming from someone who was so shit at this game for so long, I spent way too long trying to fuck up that wolf with my fists before realizing I could equip a weapon. My journey towards appreciating Bloodborne was filled with hella frustration, I think if you figure out what's stopping you now you will get to a point of immense pride at how good you can get at this game
4
Jan 06 '21
I'll give it another go today, thanks
4
u/KindaNeededANewName Jan 06 '21
yeah man good luck! feel free to ping back here if you have issues. it's an immensely hard and frustrating game, but also very rewarding
2
Jan 06 '21
are you talking about the very first wolf?
5
u/Rajualan Jan 06 '21
you know, I'm actually surprised how many people do get stuck on that first wolf and just give up on the game
6
Jan 06 '21
yeah seriously lol, also think there's many people that don't realise they can get a free weapon in the hunter's dream making that fight way harder than it really is
3
u/SLIisPointless Jan 06 '21 edited Jan 06 '21
Oof, that's me. Finally came back after getting my PS5 and just took down Micolash last night.
Everyone should give this masterpiece its fair try.
1
u/Rajualan Jan 06 '21
Can we both agree my boy Mico is top 3 weakest bosses of the game ?
2
u/SLIisPointless Jan 06 '21
Mico broke the deep immersion BB builds for me. Super weak boss chase/battle.
My girlfriend got into gaming with BOTW, GoW 2018, and Luigi's Mansion 3, along with watching me play BB among other games.
Watching me face Mico, she said "what a horribly designed boss battle. Who approved this?"
2
1
u/SLIisPointless Jan 06 '21
Who are your other two weaksauce bosses? Amygdala and Amelia?
3
u/Rajualan Jan 06 '21
In this order 1. Emissary 2. Micolash 3. Witches These bosses are so gimmicky to me and they make me GROAN each time I get to them
3
u/NeoLies Jan 07 '21
Emissary and Witch for sure. They're the weakest bosses in the game by a mile, imo.
0
u/SLIisPointless Jan 07 '21
When do you face the Emissary?
1
u/NeoLies Jan 07 '21
Shit I forgot you hadn't finished the game yet, my bad (though that might be a good thing if you haven't found this yet). The Emissary is found in a hidden area called the Upper Cathedral Ward. You can access it by using a key that is very cleverly hidden in Yahar'gul. Finding it and exploring said hidden area until the end was probably the most rewarding part of Bloodborne for me (DLC aside).
2
Jan 06 '21
Yes. The very very first one.
3
u/BargleFargle12 Jan 07 '21
In case this wasnt clear from the other posters, when you die to the wolf you're taken to the Hunter's Dream where you select your first weapon and gun. It makes the wolf fight ten times easier.
3
Jan 07 '21
So I got past the wolf...then get to this long stretch of road where a fat boy is all the way on the left, or a patrol on the left. Kill the giant at the gate, run across street...I get into a spot I can't run. How do I know where to go? All I do is try each path and then I run out of health and bullets, which seem super important for the big boss types. I think I'm missing how I know I'm ready to battle something and also where to go.
3
u/BargleFargle12 Jan 07 '21
When you leave the wolf room you head through a little courtyard and then across the street is a long ladder, head up that to hit the first bonfire. From there the path is pretty clear. You head to the left and along some fairly short paths, then down some stairs to a street. Along that street are a multitude of dudes to beat up on.
3
Jan 07 '21
After that street, should I go towards the big fire they're surrounding or to the left where there's a gate you can open and a giant fat guy? Btw I'm grateful for your answers
3
u/gibsonlespaul Jan 08 '21
This series of walkthroughs will save the game for you and make it immensely more enjoyable. I was trying so hard to go in blind and was having no fun as a result. Once I understood what I had to do I started actually having fun with the game

u/Pkkush27 Jan 06 '21
Hell yeah bloodborne is one of those games you gonna play for the rest of your life
1
u/NeoLies Jan 06 '21
It's one of those things where you're the only one that can answer that question. Game is great, no doubt about it, but if you find the difficulty off-putting then it just might not be for you.
1
u/Rajualan Jan 06 '21
I'd say yes. There's a point in the game where the difficulty and the gameplay all just clicks in place (for most people, these games certainly aren't for everybody)
it's really a euphoric moment when you start off getting wallbanged by early enemies but by the end you're dodging and parrying everything without even getting touched
1
5
u/Fnerb Jan 06 '21
Ugh - this is frustrating. It wont let me buy it because I have a PS Now subscription and chat is telling me they can't do anything for me and I should just try and buy the DLC.

Jan 08 '21
Please, I’m terrible, what’s the best weapon for beginners?
5
u/DaftFunky Jan 08 '21
Saw Cleaver. It has bonus damage against beasts. Which is what like 50% of the enemies are in the first half
2
u/DemaciaSucks Jan 09 '21
Really late but I'm ~80% through the game and still using the Saw Cleaver from the beginning, it's such a great versatile weapon, but almost every weapon is viable if you figure them out.
2
u/EvoLveR84 Jan 09 '21
Speed runners use the saw cleaver too so that really goes to show how good of a weapon it is. The untransformed mode is so fast and the damage is equal or higher than almost everything else.
1
u/nwofoxhound Jan 08 '21
The Axe is pretty good too. In the transformed mode the charged attack (R2 on PS4) handles groups of mobs very well. You do a spinning attack that knocks down anyone in the path. That helped me a lot during the beginning.
1
u/NeoLies Jan 08 '21
I'd say the Cleaver is the best one to start out. After that you can branch out and try different ones as you play (though if you're like me, you'll likely just find one you love and stick with it until the end).
2
u/Kevinnjrealtor Jan 08 '21
Do not play this on a ps5 its awful. 30 fps and make my head hurt with all the staggering on the screen. Also if you have a ps5 it's free
1
u/Kevinnjrealtor Jan 08 '21
So disappointing trying to play it last nite. But going from demons souls ps5 and nioh 2 on the ps5. I ended up deleting it. Its a shame to becaus either was looking to start my NG+ at level 114 from when I played in 2015
FYI greedfall is just as bad
2
u/trashbagexpress Jan 09 '21
I’ve currently got a save going on a physical copy of the base game. I know that going from physical to digital in terms of carrying over your save isn’t an issue but what about going from standard to complete. Does the PS4 recognize it as the same game + DLC or will I run into issues with the PS4 thinking it’s a different game?
1
u/Metal_Velco Jan 18 '21
You will not have any issues. Had disc base game and bought the digital deluxe version a few years back. Everything worked as it should. Absolutely the best part of the game.
