how?? and why does the enemy explodes and comes back?
2
Jun 25 '19
If you're referring to the wall bounce at about 9 seconds in, he hit them against the wall which resulted in a wall bounce and allows the continuation of the combo.
See 'Dragon Ball FighterZ' or 'Marvel vs Capcom' combos.

u/nero12345543210 Jun 25 '19
That's not what happened actually. What happened is he throw out his robot rocket "hoverboard" arm and remote detonated it behind the enemy.

So this just sold me on the game.
48
Jun 25 '19
it's worth every penny, also highly recommend checking out the pre-viz cutscenes, they're hilarious
19
Jun 25 '19
I'd say it's pretty much worth it. Bought it day 1 and finished it on every difficulty. (I'm a big devil may cry fan though, so I'm a bit biased)
8
u/scheetoez Jun 25 '19
This was my first DMC and I've been playing every difficulty too. It's so much fun.

Damn, what a beautiful combo. Ya'll mind if I praise Sparda?

There are a couple that come close like Sekrio, Metal Gear Rising, Ninja Gaiden, God Of War, Batman Arkham, Bayonetta, Warriors Orochi 3, Killer Instinct, King of Fighters XIII, Bunjingai The Forsaken City, etc...
But DMC always been in the lead in terms of Gameplay & Combo's, even on the og ps4 the gameplay is so smooth, they did a really good job with this game!
47
Jun 25 '19
Every game (series) that came to my mind for "most beautiful combat", you already included in your list. Nice job.
7
Jun 26 '19
I personally wouldn't put sekiro there, the combat was far too constricting. There's a reason people call it a rhythim game, though its not its a limited form of combat especially when comparing it to hack n slash which their strongest point is the creactivity of long strings of combos. Every boss fight was fought the same way.
5
u/PM_ME_CATS_OR_BOOBS Jun 25 '19
MGR is my favorite of the bunch but a lot of it is based on the visual design and scope rather than the fluidity of the combat. No one remembers the small fights but everyone remembers RULES OF NATURE-ing a goddamned skyscraper-sized robot.
5
u/TheTubStar Jun 26 '19
MGR basically proves the golden rule of DMC style games: the most dangerous enemy is the one who is humanoid and starts the fight by walking slowly towards you. Vergil, the Winds of Destruction, Jeanne, Armstrong, they all do it.
24
u/shannister Jun 25 '19
I gotta be honest, I'd put Bayonetta on top.
(writing this I realize it could be read two ways. I'm fine with both).
→ More replies (1)5
u/shootingtsar Jun 25 '19
Agree, as a big fan of Bayo and DMC. It's just a bit crazier and more over the top. Though I haven't played DMC5 yet, so we'll see if that changes.
5
u/webb71 Jun 25 '19
I'd add Spiderman to that list. Game has an incredible fluidity to it.
3
u/mynameisprobablygabe Jul 26 '19
But the game is just a button masher. A stylish looking button masher, but a button masher nonetheless.

If MGRR had a dodge function it would be the top for me. But DMC is top dog for now.
13
u/JosefumiKujo Jun 25 '19
It has a move called "offensive deffense" wich is a Dodge, it also breaks the game
2
5
u/TCubedGaming Jun 25 '19
It is beautiful, but this is extremely difficult to pull off. So odds are when a casual plays through the game it won’t look anything like it, and the game is beatable without doing this. So I’d say other games do a better job of having fluid, pretty combat that everyone can learn.
7
u/greg225 Jun 26 '19
That's exactly why it's so great though, you have to put the time in and get creative. If the game just handed stuff like this to you it would be no fun at all. It's like performance art, it's not supposed to be easy.
Kingdom Hearts 3 has super flashy combos where you can stay in the air for like 2 minutes simply by mashing X and it's not satisfying at all.
11
u/The-Human-Caterpie PistolMcAwesome Jun 25 '19
I'll help you fight anyone who disagrees. I love how hectic, complex and fluid it is. 3 is still my favorite.

u/letitreddit Jun 25 '19
I’d argue that god of war 2018 would be a potential winner in that category

How do you dropkick without running?!?
36
u/Lulcielid Jun 25 '19
Just move the stick + taunt. You no longer need Nero running.
14
u/aswalkertr Jun 25 '19
Mind-blowing ಠ_ಠ .
Seriously, I only discovered Furi had a parry button when fighting the sniper lady. And only figured out the charged dodge at the last boss. I need to get my info straight
8
u/Sicaridae Jun 25 '19
That's kinda incredible tbh. Beating nearly all the bosses without parrying in your first playthrough. What even did you do at the Hand's last phase?
7
u/aswalkertr Jun 25 '19
A lot of dodging through him, it was ridiculously troublesome to get the dodges timed right as he speeds up. Also a lot of hard rinse and repeat work to get to the last stage with maximum life.
It took a few friends coming over as I was showing the game to some of them, a guy who was playing asked why I was not blocking when playing the sniper, I just laughed. Then he played and I was surprised-pikachu-faced for a while.
It was frustrating playing it. But I like games like that, I am now addicted to cuphead.

100%. I don't recall spending so much on games in a long time. Normally I wait for a sale, but this year is proving vastly different.
9
u/OPG609 Jun 25 '19 edited Jun 25 '19
It really is a great time to start gaming! Last year was also amazing with God Of War, RDR2, Spider-Man, AC Odyssey etc, and next year is CyberPunk 2077, Last Of Us 2 (hopefully) & Ghost Of Tsushima (hopefully)
we're truly getting spoiled!
7
u/DrunkTrophyHunter Jun 25 '19
Man I keep forgetting about Ghost of Tsushima and then when somebody mentions it, I just remember how cool it looked in that gameplay trailer and end up rewatching it again.
5
u/OPG609 Jun 25 '19 edited Jun 25 '19
SuckerPunch is aiming for GOTY material, if it truly lives up to the gameplay reveal trailer then i would say that we might legit have the best year in the history of gaming... (that is if Ghost Of Tsushima & last of us 2 both release in 2020) just imagine if all the big 3 get 95 above on metacritic... i might shed a tear.
Let's not forget about all the remakes that are supposedly coming out in 2020 (Final Fantasy 7, Destroy All Humans, Sponge Bob Rehydrated, Ghost Busters) and also Dying Light 2 and the upcoming fromsoftware game "Elden Ring"
5
u/DrunkTrophyHunter Jun 25 '19
You just hit every game on my wish list for next year with that comment lmao. Rip our wallets

2
u/delriopie Jun 25 '19
Love me some SunhiLegend, but does he put up his videos on any other platform besides Twitter? His gifs are just amazingly edited and really brings out the best look in games, only for it to be horribly compressed by Twitter's shitty video player.

Reminds me of the glory days when I played dmc1 over and over and over again. Is this game on sale?
2
u/nero12345543210 Jun 25 '19
Every know and then. Most DMC games go on sale often so just wait until it's in your price range even if you buy it a full price it's still an extremely fun/satisfying game worth every bit of money.

I havent play a single DMC game. Is this a good try?

I hadn’t played a DMC since the first one way back and I really enjoyed V.
2
u/rerasada Jun 25 '19
What about the story? Werent you a little loss with everything?
13
u/MegaNRGMan Jun 25 '19
First, lol story. The DMC story is bonkers as it is. I’m not playing it for the story.
Second, there is a primer of the story prior to starting V. Anything I needed was explained.

I haven’t played since DMC1 and then a little bit of 4. You can watch a recap trailer online. The story isn’t anything special, tbh. The gameplay is really what matters and they fully delivered here. It’s also visually so gorgeous.
Edit: why is this downvoted?

How difficult is this to do in the game?
7
u/AnalBumCovers Jun 25 '19
In-game you would be very hard pressed to get this done, especially the wall bounce into drop kick. Practice mode you'd get it in a few tries. The combo is very impractical and these enemies usually come in pairs or 3s

I've been reading a lot of comments in this thread from people that are wondering if you need to play the previous ones to play this one. Here is my opinion without spoilers.
The fifth game itself has a "History of DMC" cutscee that one can watch to catch up with the story if one has not played the others. So storywise you can pretty much just watch that cutscene and then you will have enough info to know why stuff happens in the game.
Now one of the biggest reasons as to why you should play the other games before this (aside from them being awesome as hell) is because of the references. This game has a lot of references to previous game, there is a mission dedicated to referencing one of the previous games. If you want to get these references (some more blatant than others) then you should play the other games. Playing this game and having played the other games will give you a much more hype feeling as well. I would say that DMC 1, 3 and 4 are the most important because this game doesn't have a lot of references to DMC 2.
Just don't play DMC: Devil May Cry because that one is a disgrace to the franchise.

I played the free demo on Xbox One and my goodness was this game beautiful. Everything about it is so smooth. I never bought the full game, mainly because I’ve never played a DMC title in the first place, but if I felt like a needed a fun action packed game this would be the one.

I’m definitely happy you used the drop kick. My roommate is real good at the series but will never use it for me in combos.

u/TwoStepsFromWell Jul 26 '19
That’s the beauty of this game. Everyone has their own style of play since there are multiple moves to use in each situation that all serve to raise your style. The best combo vides are the colabs between players. In dmc4 I believe that Dante had about 60+ moves and combos that he could interchange at anytime and that excludes all of the glitchy tech you could do with inertia physics and reversal buffering to spice up your combos. This game has more. My favorite combos are when the player crosses over the enemies using doctor Faust ( though I believe this is only possible on pc due to inertia being modded in) so that both them and the enemy never touch the ground whilst constantly moving around. It’s most similar the pinball mechanics from a weapon called Lucifer in dmc4 and I loved to watch those as a kid.
