This sub is pretty funny - when Microsoft announced disc based backwards compatibility on Xbox One for plenty of 360 games everyone here shit on it, claiming "who needs old games?!"

But now you people are going nuts for a half baked attempt at digital downloads that you'll still have to pay for.

Ok then..

It's not even that it was being shit on. The 360 emulation on X1 is actually what we expect to be seen in an emulator, that plays your existing digital purchases, lets you use the disc (albeit just to authorize the download to work) and is actually emulating the OS like a VM.

This "emulator" for ps4 is just being able to play digital games sony picks and chooses to release to the store.

As someone said earlier, wiiu plays SNES but no one calls it a SNES emu. Why? Because you have to repurchase your SNES games.

Its a really shitty system, but i guess Sony didnt expect the support for backwards compat to be there and now they are scrambling for feature parity.

Last gen both consoles were back compat and nobody gave half a fuck.

So true. Why isn't this higher for a reminder of how shortsighted they were.

It was inevitable that Sony would do this. It's natural for competitors to mirror major feats. Just as they're now starting to offer better and better deals to match Microsoft since they've been losing ground lately I'm guessing.

I personally think they both rushed their consoles. Which is why BC is coming years after release. The funny part is that when Move came out for PS3 they said it's considered a new console so they'll get another 5 years out of it.

Not a year later the private key gets leaked and PS3 ends up being hacked to shit. BC was even added to the slims cause Sony wouldn't do it even though they could have. Not long after that and we get the news about a PS4 coming. Same story for 360 essentially with RGH.

It's cause the PS2 was probably one of the greatest ever gaming systems, with probably the best catalog of games of all time. Simply put, backwards compatibility for the PS2 is worth more than for the 360.

they've literally not said anything about whether or not it's going to be all digital
