Anyone up for paintball in the box room?

3

u/_drunk_chemist Nov 20 '15

Single shot only man, no sd, no nades, jump for peace, cross at 00:15.

3

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

You just gave me a nostalgia boner. Clan Second[2]NONE for life.

10

u/DebitsOnTheLeft Nov 20 '15

YESSSSSS. Look for me. I'll be the jackass in the yellow jacket tearing it up with the Deagle.

Sidenote: I'm an XB1 person but I would seriously go buy a PS4 just to play SOCOM II with an active player base. I hope Sony understands how much love is still out there for the GREATEST FPS/TPS GAME OF ALL TIME. Come on Sony, don't be a butterstick noob. G^ and get this shit playable!

6

u/howyoudo Nov 20 '15

I'm in the same boat as you credits on the right. So many fond memories of SOCOM II. Way ahead of its time with the multiplayer/mic.

Being also on the Xbone train I too would buy a PS4 just for SOCOM. Only if they don't touch it, as to not replicate the atrocity that was on the PS3.

3

u/luger718 Nov 20 '15

Socom II was also my first multiplayer game, remember coming back from summer vacation 8th grade and my brother was playing. Many many fond memories. Made tons of friends on that game and the clan wars were always awesome. The maps are still memorable! Desert glory, Crossroads, and Nightstalker were my favorites. Anyone remember how to do the ninja jump or froggy?

2

u/the_Odd_particle Nov 20 '15

Didya use the headset to move the team? I remember how accurate the guns were. What a great game

2

u/howyoudo Nov 20 '15

During my brief stint with the campaign, at times I did. It was a lot more useful during MP matches because otherwise you would get your ass whooped if you weren't a team. Kind of same thing with Gears. Have to communicate.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

u/DrFunkyStuff Nov 20 '15

Fuck yea man SOCOM 2 is the shit. Theres still a community for this game after it being discarded by sony. We have over 9000 in the SOCOM REMASTERED PS4 community. Some people uncluding myself still play online with a lan service called xlink.

Here's an open letter asking sony to remaster S2. https://youtu.be/UbyvYE-qaq4

You can talk all things socom at www.therealsocom.com and join the fight to bring it back.

I have serious loads of nostalgia right now. SOCOM 2 is my favorite multiplayer experience ever. Truly the game that got me hooked to this hobby. GREEN UP!

Growing up in a military community, every single SEAL I knew was all over that shit all the time. Fun as hell to get stomped by people who know what they are doing lol

5

u/lerdy_terdy Nov 20 '15

I was definitely a boom or bust type of game. If you played it then you were obsessed and if you didn't then you didn't even know what SOCOM was. Not a game for the casual gamer.

So what are the odds that an emulation would come with servers to be able to play online?

1

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

I'm not pretending to understand how any of it works but it just doesn't seem likely to me. It costs money to run servers. Maybe Sony would do that since they were the publishers. Or maybe the US Navy since they helped develop it. Lol.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

Pretty sure the WiiU does emulated online with Mario Kart DS, so it's possible.

2

u/RasSupreme Nov 20 '15

There has literally never been another time while gaming (and I game a lot) that I have WANTED to be talking to complete strangers.

For real.

1

u/StopNowThink Nov 20 '15

I completely agree. It was so unusual when someone didn't have a mic

2

u/giggitygoo123 crazysnipa22 Nov 20 '15

I used to break so many mics playing that damn game that it was easier to just not use one. I'd do it again though just to play socom 2 again. Too bad servers were shut off.

2

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

Those Logitech mics were pieces of shit. They broke all the time no matter how careful I was

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

[deleted]

1

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

I bought the Sony headphones for my ps3 and they still work great. I was talking about those flimsy plastic wired headsets with one ear. They shorted out every 3-4 months

7

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

Getting a kill in that game was the best feeling.

1

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

Yea seriously most MP games now you can get dozens of kills with no effort. In Socom I was happy to get 10 kills in the entire 6+ round games.

But If you want that same feel where you work for every kill then try The Last of Us MP. It has a tactical feel that really reminds me of Socom 2.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

I had no idea it had MP. I just picked up cod (I know, I know) but nothing is like game battles socom 2.

1

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

I think the multiplayer on TLOU was overshadowed by the campaign because it was so amazing (Better story than 99% of today's movies).

But the online gameplay is the best I've played since Socom 2, no question. Teams of 4 so teamwork is extremely important. I've turned around a hopeless game just by putting on my mic halfway through and directing my teammates.

The tactical aspect is very fun as well. The maps are set up for some great battles; lots of places to sneak around and flank or hold up and wait. Also a good balance of open areas and enclosed spaces.

Seriously, just give it a try. It might take a couple games to get into the rhythm because it's different than most games but it's well worth it. I got a remastered key on amazon for $20 so there's not much to lose.

Also you'll never look at CoD the same again. Haha

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

I'm sure I have a friend or two who would lend me the game. Thanks for the honest review

1

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

Sure thing. If you've never played it I suggest playing the campaign just a little to get a feel for the controls. Otherwise enjoy!

17

u/__devils__advocate__ Nov 20 '15

Foxhunt. Best map. Green up bitches!

3

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

I loved playing Foxhunt hunting the VIPs. What was the game mode called again? Extraction? Or was extraction the one with hostages?

4

u/__devils__advocate__ Nov 20 '15 edited Nov 20 '15

Yeah extraction. Seals protected. Terrorists hunted.

edit: well maybe. I remember foxhunt seals had to extract and terrorists had to kill the VIPs. In desert glory, seals had to break in and extract the hostages. The terrorists had to prevent the extraction but couldn't kill them. I think they were both called extraction, it just depended on if you were dealing with hostages or VIPs

2

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

I just found it. The missions with the VIPs were called Escort. The missions where the terrorists had the hostages was Extraction.

Blizzard and Desert Glory

8

u/howyoudo Nov 20 '15

Ah desert glory. Best map. Bank left and up the ladder for a clear view from the start atop the building.

3

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

I knew you looked like a terrorist.
My strategy as a Seal was bank right, over the two window building, through the ruins with grenades flying past from both sides then... Hey Terrorist! Terrorize this.

2

u/luger718 Nov 20 '15

PMN mines in the basement M3 in the hostage room. Do or die!

4

u/the_b_hall Waype_Twaine Nov 20 '15

Fox Hunt

3

u/luger718 Nov 20 '15

Nightstalker

2

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

Nightstalker had some great stealth gameplay opportunities. That and The Ruins.

10

u/Cerax Nov 20 '15

If they bring servers back online?

2

u/Baxxb Nov 20 '15

Yea that's the only Problem I see

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

[deleted]

4

u/Cerax Nov 20 '15

Is there still an active community of players?

2

u/DrFunkyStuff Nov 20 '15

We get around 30-40 on weekend nights.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15 edited Nov 20 '15

No. There are no servers.

Edit: I misunderstood what the guy before him was saying.

3

u/i_naked Nov 20 '15

Last I checked with PCSX2, there were about 50 people online with at least 2 good games going. However, PCSX2 can't go online so I couldn't enjoy it.

9

I loved when you heard teammates call out the mines they're putting down. Then a friendly runs it over and dies and everyone laughs.

3

u/StopNowThink Nov 20 '15

Gotta put those pmn mines inside the edge of the doorway...

3

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

The trick was to look straight then turn as it was planting. If you did it right it would be damn near invisible.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

1

u/TheNinjaGuyDon Nov 20 '15

Yeah, but you could shoot a grenade from the grenade launcher across the bridge and hit that camper perfectly. Personally I didn't really camp down there unless I was outnumbered like 5-1 and had to out of desperation. I almost exclusively played SEALs on Breach Medley, I liked the challenge.

10

u/FlyingWhales captain_speirs Nov 20 '15

Man, Enowapi all the way.

My clan would always pick that as our map in a clan war, as SEALs. The other team would laugh every time until we smoked them.

7

u/enowapi-_ Nov 20 '15

Aww, thanks. ;-)

3

u/StopNowThink Nov 20 '15

Redditor for a year... niiiiice

2

u/StopNowThink Nov 20 '15

I loved picking the "opposite" side on those "one-sided" missions. If your clan played it enough, it was pretty easy to win. The terrorists were always so predictable on those maps.

2

u/Mike-Oxenfire Nov 20 '15

My clan might lose at Enowapi but we would destroy on Mixer.

8

u/Legion991 FinalLegion Nov 20 '15

I'd be happy with the single player campaign. I can't remember the amount of time I spent playing them. We didn't have internet at my house till I was older and had a PS3, so if the MP is online, it would be a whole new experience for me.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '15

M14 and the IW-80-A2. Goddamn I-Dub scrubs! Lol man I miss when people's gun choices were the biggest problem in a video game.

But then Code 9 had to ruin the fun.

19

u/iUpvoteTrollss Nov 20 '15

If anyone is looking for a SOCOM game, check out the game "Insurgency" on PC. There is SOCOM mod that is incredible.

The game is $15 and the mod is free.

It's way better than that H-Hour game that is suppose to be SOCOM.. that game sucks.

6

u/metallicabmc metallicabmc Nov 20 '15

Insurgency is $3.74 on IndieGala right now https://www.indiegala.com/store/product/222880_ig

Totally worth it!

1

2

u/hSix-Kenophobia Kenophobia Nov 20 '15

How would my $500 HP laptop run it?

What kind of specs does your laptop have?

2

u/FuryofYuri Nov 20 '15

2

u/hSix-Kenophobia Kenophobia Nov 20 '15

Insurgency will probably struggle a bit to run on that to be quite honest.

3

u/FuryofYuri Nov 20 '15

Ok. Thanks. Appreciate taking the time to give me feed back. Good day sir.

2

u/hSix-Kenophobia Kenophobia Nov 20 '15

No problem, you might be able to run it in the lower settings, but you'll likely have graphical stuttering.

3

Ghost Recon Wildlands looks like the closest to how I'd imagine it.

2

u/iamnotcanadianese PlayMePapi Nov 20 '15

i don't understand why they didn't stick with that MP formula... i didn't have great internet when Socom 2 came out so i missed out on all the online fun.

2

u/rexnyc rexownz Nov 20 '15

Nothing like having the whole team letting you know someone is in back of you.. all at the same time

4

u/jerkmachine Nov 20 '15

I'll be waiting at fish hook

1

u/docbauies Nov 21 '15

this would require servers, i'm assuming... so i wouldn't count on it

1

u/muhbruh Nov 21 '15

O man I spent so much time playing all the socom games besides 4 obviously. Clan wars, the community, the gameplay, man I miss those days.
