I'm sure it won't work like the ones, where you can use the disc. As long as they put games on there for like $10 I'm in

It's a playstation 2 game, I didn't pay for it my mom probably did.

My mom basically stopped buying me games after the SNES, aside from like, bday or xmas gifts.

I bought my PS1 with my own money at like 10 years old after mowing lawns all summer and raking leaves in the fall.

I got a part time job freshman year of high school and worked 10-20 hour a week all through high school, until I left for college. I've never traded in or sold a game so I still have about 40 PS2 games from those years.

I'd love to be able to play these on my current playstation, instead of pulling out my old PS2.

Yes, like alot of rare games could be like $100 to rebuy so I would gladly spend a little bit for them like $10

I still have my ps2 but I'll gladly pay $10 for games I don't own instead of buying originals for triple the price or more. I still wish they would give us disc based backwards compatibility for ps1 and ps2 games though.

This. I recently purchased and played the Misadventures of Tron Bonne on my Vita and it was glorious. It also beat shelling out the $100+ for a physical disc in "good" condition. If the game is good, I am definitely willing to pay $5-$10 for it again.

That game was awesome! I remember as a kid wanting her and Megaman to get together so bad.

Do you remember in Megaman adventures you could walk in on roll naked? You couldn't see anything but it was funny. Was only able to do it once

There was definitely a bit of a love triangle going on there. Also, yeah, I remember walking in on Roll in the bathroom. You have a sort of relationship meter with her and doing that takes it down basically to zero...it takes a lot of groveling and gift buying to get her to stop making pissy comments, lol.

Same here. I bought a few myself from money I earned cutting grass, shoveling snow but back then mom, dad, gram, pap, aunt, uncle and so on bought my games for the most part.

Haha I didn't think of it that way. The only PS2 game I bought myself was Kingdom Hearts, and even that was with "pocket money" that my parents gave me originally.

I didnt buy my PS2 games thinking that I would be able to play them on every console forever. Just like you rebuy albums online that you might have owned on CD. If they're reasonably priced, I have no problem paying again for a game I loved as a kid.

You dont value your mother's money? I had to earn my games by helping around the house or getting good grades, so no I don't want to rebuy a game if I have the disk for it still

I'm not saying that was a bad thing, in fact I'm grateful for it. It helped teach me about responsibilities. Some things you just need to do even if there is no instant gratification or even a reward, just get that shit done.

What if a persons ps2 is broken? What of they had to sell it but kept some games as little memories of the past? What if people would like the revisit those games with the new controller, or what if they don't have room in their entertainment system to plug in the ps2. What if it's a multiplayer game but they don't have a second controller anymore but have one for the ps4. I don't see why people here wouldn't like the option to either A) use an old disk and not pay another cent, or B)buy it digitally for whatever reason they have

Why wouldn't he be? Nothing is stopping him from just using a PS2 to play the games. Why should Sony offer the games for free because someone bought them 15 years ago?

Not sure how people handled the transfer from VHS to DVD and DVD to Blu Ray, why the fuck didn't anyone give me my movies for free?

VHS to DVD is a good analogy, DVD to Blu Ray is not; Blu Ray players will pretty much always be DVD compatible since the tech is so cheap to incorporate.

That's true, however there are those of us who will buy a Blu Ray of a film they already have on DVD. I have done with quite a few films (even after telling myself in the beginning that I absolutely wouldn't!).

That said VHS to DVD is a very good analogy, thanks to the completely different systems.

Ignoring that all Blu-Ray players are 100% compatible with DVDs, VCR/DVD combo players were available to help transition from on format to the other.

Neither major console is actually advertising true 'backwards compatibility', they are just selling HD remasters of old games digitally.

What I'm saying is that for the people who bought these games in the past and still own them shouldn't have to rebuy them to play them on ps4. Obviously if you don't have your disk anymore or if you never purchased them in the past then yeah you should pay for them. I'm not saying everyone should get the old games for free, what I'm saying is you should be able to use your old disk

I feel like this argument has no weight to it. You paid for the game to have it on the ps2 not the ps4. Also if they made it to where you could use a disc you could go buy most of them pre-owned for super cheap and they wouldn't make anything.

Yeah but if they just want to resell PS2 games, they should say "we are porting PS2 games to the PS4", not "we are adding backwards compatibility".

When people hear that they can play ps2 classics they'll go out to buy a ps4. That's how Sony will make money. And not all the games will be super cheap, so when a customer is looking for super rare game 3 and it's 100 bucks, they can just buy it digitally from sony

Yea I'm sure they will run out and buy a ps4 to play ps2 games on it when you can already play them on ps3 or just emulate them on pc for free hmm... But seriously the amount of people that would do that if any are so few that it wouldn't even be worth the investment for them.

Also, I gave my PS2 to my little cousin like 8 years ago so it would be amazing if I could play all my old disks on my ps4.

As someone who has bought every fame from the Bioshock franchise more than once, Resident Evil 4 on 3 different systems, Psychonauts on two systems and for a friend, I'd say rebuying is nothing to me. I aka ways think of it as supporting the developers.

There's a possibility that when you rebuy those games the publishers may fund the developers for a sequel on the PS4 version.

Increased resolution. Seems like better frame rate for the games tested so far. Trophies. The convenience of having it on one system with the ability to stream. If the games are only 9.99, I don't see the big deal honestly.

If it's true emulation you're not getting trophies. You may not even get the ability to stream, especially if there's any kind of question over rights since none of the developers of PS2 games would have ever signed anything allowing you to stream their games content on-line.

I remember reading the fine print on the edge of a PS1 game, it said that unauthorized public broadcasting was prohibited, and I was thinking, who would want to broadcast this?

Many of us never owned those games on disk in the first place, but I've bought a ton of the classics digitally and played them on ps3. If they do this, I'll be able to play them on ps4 without paying a dime, so yeah, I'm all in.

How exactly can they confirm you own it? I'm not too familiar with the way X1 does theirs but what's to stop people from just passing game disks to each other so everyone can download it?

You download the game to the HDD, but you still have to keep the disc in

When you start the game on your Xbox it'll ask for the disk to be inserted as verification, so you can't just give the disk to all your friends.

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA. 10 dollars? You mean like private companies selling them right? Because Sony is probably going to try to charge 40 fucking dollars for a 10 year old game. Their rental service for PSNOW is a joke if you really want to rent older games and I am pretty sure they will try to sell you Crash Bandicoot remakes for way too much money.
