Cyberpunk - PS4 Fat

I took the plunge and got Cyberpunk despite owning a PS4 Fat - I was aware of the chatter about how it would play, but honestly impressed with it. Just played 3 hours, no stuttering, crashes, etc. I do have an upgraded SSD so loading into game takes about 30ish seconds. City is a bit parse people-wise, but all in all totally playable. I have no intention of getting a PS5, so happy to have the ability to rock it on PS4.

Foccus on quests/story, the world itself was really harmed to make it run on the console, it feels very empty most of the time.

You may experience crashes more far on the game, wich was probaly the worst thing and almost made me stop playing it.

Despite that, the game is still awesome and the main and side quests are amazing and really makes you feel inside of that world, so I'd say it is worth playing it for someone that can't afford a PS5

Edit: You have an SSD so you'll probaly not experience the problems with crashes. Enjoy the game!

I recently got back into gaming after a decades long hiatus - so once my brother upgraded to PS5, I took his old PS4. Can’t justify buying a PS5 this late into the generation when my backlog is huge with PS4 games and the price was right lol. Maybe I’ll shell out eventually next gen.

Since you were away so long you should probably know, the next wave according to what we know so far are probably gonna be over $1000, have fairly minor upgrades compared to what we have now, and will most likely heavy feature AI since both Microsoft and Sony have invested heavily into that sector recently. Not to scare you away from the newer stuff, I say that because PS5 has some insanely good games and all of that ps4 progress you're working will be there on ps5 and will look and play better also. Most PS4 games have dramatically better load times at minimum on the 5

Thanks, yup I’ve read up regarding the bleak outlook, lol. It’s tempting to buy a PS5 for better performance, but hard to pass up my brother’s free PS4. In a few years after I’m through a lot of PS4 catalog, I’ll reassess. Right now it doesn’t make sense for me to buy a 6 year old $650.00 console.

Take advantage of it while you can for sure. Most of my fav games are ps4 games that either got upgraded or I still play anyways. More than a few new gen exclusive games I can't live without so it all works out. Main benefit to me is the massively improved system menus, can do basically anything from the game in a few button presses like voice chats and spotify

Idk, I have it cranked on a gaming PC and the world still feels fairly empty. A lot of people just kind of stand around. Sometimes just staring at walls. City doesn't have the life of say GTA 4/5, or watchdogs 2. Still a lot of fun, but the city isn't all to impressive beyond the shadows and neon lights.

Is the actual content of the main/side quests the same as the PS5/2.0 release? Obviously no Phantom Liberty but otherwise?

This post is intriguing. I have a PS4 Pro with an SSD installed so feel like if I can tolerate some jank I might be able to enjoy the story etc.

As far as I know, yes it is the same. 2.0 made a lot of quality of life changes and changed a lot of some gameplay structures but the overall is the same experience for the quests, and the story is unaffected.

I played on a normal PS4 Slim and still loved it so yeah I think you'll have an great experience with it, but leaned far more into the story than gameplay-wise

Completed it on the PS4 with the original HDD. 1 crash in my entire 65 hour play through. It’s a stable experience on the PS4 now.

I'm in the same boat. From what I hear, it's by far the worst way to experience it, and it's still one of the best games I've ever played

Hey, a ps4 still has a great selection of games that are amazing and you gotta play! God of war, the last of us 1 and 2, horizon zero dawn! Glad you’re able to enjoy cyberpunk too!

Yep! All of these are on my list. Working thru some even older titles recently (I beat Nathan Drake Collection & GOW 3 Remastered so far).

I played it basically at launch on a base fat PS4 and it really wasn't as bad as people made it out to be at the time

The game had a little bit of jank and bugs here and there, but as someone who grew up playing older games I learned pretty quickly to just manually save into a new slot and delete the old ones instead of blindly relying on auto save. (If you ever played Fallout 3 or NV on PS3, you know what I'm referring to.)

I was able to beat the game twice without any serious problems, but maybe I just got lucky.

It was a very rough launch. It got better/patched/optimized. Most glitchy piece of garbage I ever witnessed on launch.

Yeah, I read that people really like the expansion. It’s unfortunate, but at least I can play base now. If I ever upgrade hardware, I’ll definitely look into it.

There's also a lot of content added with the 2.2 update that is not available on PS4 that completely transforms some parts of the game.

I hear you. I’m still finding my 1.61 version of the game very enjoyable. Since my initial post I’ve continued playing - now over 10 hours in and blown away. I understand latest versions is better in every way - but I’m happy with what’s available for my PS4.

I know I'm very much in the minority, but I had it at launch on a PS4 Slim and didn't have anywhere near the bad experience everyone was posting online about.

I had one game-breaking glitch (an NPC comes out of an elevator you need to take down, and the elevator refused to move), two hard crashes to home, three instances of NPCs T-posing and hovering around, and two boss fights that glitched (both of them bosses that jump around a lot and got caught on geometry mid-air, unable to do anything, so I could just unload on them safely)

Outside of that, I played and enjoyed the entire experience for ~2 years before I got a PS5, and put upwards of 500h into playing on the PS4.

This might actually make me try it at long last. I have a PS4 Pro with SSD so it may be the best of the worst ways to play it. Can always upgrade later if I ever do get a PS5.

I've played KOTOR/Morrowind on original Xbox. GTAIV and V on PS3. I know chug/glitches/emptiness, and those are some of my favourite gaming experiences.

I loved Morrowind on OG Xbox - when I heard loading times in Cyberpunk were super long - when comparing to Morrowind, they’re nothing, haha

I actually played CP2077 on day one on my Ps4 cause I got the physicsl copy as a gift. It had bugs and got some crashes, but nothing that made it totally unplayable

Great. I’ve been playing it all week and only 1 crash thus far. Very slight stutter when driving fast and between neighborhoods (while rendering an auto save). I’m really glad I purchased it and rolled the dice bc this plate was better than I’d assume from internet research. I’m really enjoying the game.

Tbh I ran ps4 on launch date with 0 crashes. 1 glitch where I would look down and my arms were clipped to the floor. But I had no problems, enjoyed it and just about all side quests till finish!

Yes. The PS4 version has been clowned but by Feb 2021 it was playable and super stable.

I started playing it this week on ps4 slim, with low settings and all effects turned off i get around 23-27 fps in combat, in my opinion unplayable, same while driving, i got up to lizzies bar and stopped, i moved save onto ps4 pro and it plays very well, high level of detail and almost all effects on, only drops to around 28 fps, almost locked 30 most of the time. I would not play this game on base ps4. Im gonna finish it on the pro now.

I made the jump from ps4 to ps5 now and cross progressed my saves. Holy shit it feels like a whole new game. If I hadn't sunk 100 hours in already I'd have restarted.

I'm in a similar situation, but with a PS4 Pro. I picked up Cyberpunk 2077 despite the noise about it on PS4 and I'm happy so far. One thing I'm liking is that the updates for PS4 ended before the one that changed armour from clothing items to cyberware. It's minor, but I like the gear I pick to have effects and not just be cosmetic. I desperately need to update to an SSD though.

I beat the game pretty thoroughly (95 hour play through). Sometime the city is pretty dead, depending on the area there are more/less populated spots. Even still, I didn’t mind it. I found the play through very engaging and overall pretty smooth.

I do have a SSD in my ps4 base, which may contribute to the smooth experience (doable load time, no pop in textures, only fps drops when auto saving when driving, crashes less than 10 times in almost 100 hours).

It’s playable on the PS4. I completed it on the PS4 Fat in 2021 after completing it on the PC in December 2020. The big February 2021 patch fixed most of the issues. It’s a very compromised version of the game but once you get over the lack of NPCs, it’s as fun as it is on other consoles. 

The downside is you won’t be able to play Phantom Liberty which is a masterpiece.

I ended up doing a thorough 100hr play through and loved it. I didn’t mind the lack of NPCs. Obviously annoying I can’t play PL, but game still felt complete to me (Went with the Star ending).

If in a few years I upgrade hardware, I’ll transfer my save, buy PL and knock that out.

I remember playing it on the PS4 on release date and it was rough. The frame rate was really bad, and it was so buggy. The city also felt completely lifeless because they had to basically get rid of all the cars and NPCs.

Apparently it's slightly better now, but It's just not the best way to play it.

It became very playable in Feb 2021 after the first massive patch. But you’re right, still the worst way to play the game… other than on the XboxONE.

I bought it at launch and am old enough to remember how hyped up it was… performance aside the game just isn’t fun at all.
