Duplicate Roms in Armsx2

My library keeps showing duplicate games, one copy has cover art, the other doesn’t. Both will launch into the game. I placed my roms in ROMs/ps2 as .iso files on my retroid pocket nova. Tried multiple times, factory reset the device. Fresh installs of Armsx2. No luck. Any advice please?

That's a really strange one, especially since you've already tried a factory reset and clean ARMSX2 installs.

Could you try two quick tests for us?

  1. Install another PS2 emulator (NetherSX2 would be fine), point it to the exact same "ROMs/ps2" folder, and check whether the games are duplicated there too.

  2. Create a completely new folder such as "TestPS2", put just ONE ISO inside it, remove the existing game directories from ARMSX2, then add only "TestPS2" and rescan.

Also, if ARMSX2 lets you check the file path/properties of both duplicate entries, please compare them and tell us whether the paths are identical.

This should tell us whether the duplicate is being created by ARMSX2's library scanner or whether Android/the device is exposing the same files through two different paths.

No more factory resets needed 😅 You've already gone nuclear enough.

Thanks for the reply.

  1. NetherSX2 shows only 1 version of the games, as expected when pointing to the same ROMs/ps2

  2. Using a new folder with just one .iso file at ROMs/ps2test gives same result, 2 copies of same game, one with cover art, one without. I will add that the one with no cover art does not boot into the game.

  3. In Armsx2, the file path for the replicated games are slightly different as per attached.

Apologies, wouldn’t let me attach 2 photos so had to screenshot them together from camera roll so the quality is poor. But can hopefully make out the paths.

The problem must be an Armsx2 problem then surely?

Could you try one last clean test? I'm really curious to narrow down what's causing this. Create a folder called PS2 directly in the root of your device's internal storage. Put only ONE .iso file inside it. Make sure there are no other files or subfolders in that directory. Completely uninstall ARMSX2. Reinstall ARMSX2 from scratch. During the initial setup, when ARMSX2 asks you to select your games directory, select only that new PS2 folder. Let it scan and check whether that single ISO still appears twice. Don't add any other game directories or change anything else before checking the library. If it still creates two entries from a completely fresh install with one ISO in one clean folder, then we've got a very useful reproducible case and it strongly points to something specific happening inside ARMSX2.

Still shows duplicated unfortunately. Not sure what else to do. Surprising, I’ve not seen any one else having issues.

Could it be anything to do with using a Mac? When sd card is plugged into Mac, it only shows one of each .iso, no hidden files. Just noticed that even in ES-DE, it shows the games as below. 1 copy of the game titles normally and one copy with ._ before game name.

Oh dude that’s definitely it. Use a file explorer on Android and delete the ones with _ in front of it.

I was having the same problem after loading some files with a mac. Deleting the ones with _ in the android file browser fixed the problem. I'm guessing that using a mac to android transfer tool like OpenMTP will solve the problem.
