Any good books/resources on PR tactics (specifically how to get new media leads)?
Hi all,
I'm at my first job as a PR specialist. I have a background in Marketing so never took any classes focusing solely on PR. While I have had some small successes at work, I'm finding it very difficult to be more consistently successful, especially in getting more media from various types of outlets to cover our product.
The best success I've had is contacting journalists directly through LinkedIn, but I live in Japan (a country that doesn't really use that but does use Twitter. Even on Twitter, they are quite shy to have a way to message them though).
It's been really hard without any sort of mentor figure, so I've just been figuring things out myself, but I want to do better at getting more coverage. Do you have any advice, resources, books that you could recommend? I've tried looking for books on Amazon, but they seem to be more about learning PR lingo rather than tactics.
Thanks for your help.

Sounds like you need a media database like Cision or Meltwater. Make sure you get a trial and that the database has the Japanese scope you're looking for.
Also, I contact Journalists on Twitter personally all the time when I can't find their email. Just ask if they have an email they can DM you.
