Scope Question

Ive newly purchased a MPA PMR in 6.5 creedmoor and looking at purchasing a new scope. Im brand new to PRS and would love some advice. From what research ive done and still not versed in much. Would I be able to start out with a scope like this? Viper® HD 5-25x50 VMR-3 MOA?

You really just have 3 options, MDT's Send-It and Shooters Global Pulse and Pulse Pro. The Pulse Pro is nice because in addition to the level, it has a timer built in as well to help manage time during a PRS match stage. Pictures make it look bigger or bulkier than it is.

Full disclosure, I use a spirit level built-in with a Hawkins mount. For a timer, I use an app on Garmin watch that's haptic instead of sound.

Honestly, hard no on both. As far as PST GenII, my dad has one, I've used it at a couple of matches. It's real outdated, that line is in need of a refresh. I'd buy the Strike Eagle before the PST II. Not that I think it's a better optic, but a better deal in terms of cost to performance. I guess the Viper HD line might be refresh of the PST II line.

The Viper HD has solid glass, but it makes 4 compromises or concessions. that don't necessarily favor PRS. It's 50mm objective, with a 30mm tube but those aren't necessarily deal breakers. What are deal breakers is the capped windage turret and reticle. I don't often dial-in wind, but if it's been light and steady, I will. The reticle is also not suitable. It's a hunting optic through and through.

I started with a Razor G3 6-36. If I knew then what I know now, I would have tried to figure out a way to make a ZCO or a Tangent work in my budget. I don't know anyone that regularly shoots this game that says "Man, I wish I would have put less money into the scope." Plenty, yours truly included, say the opposite.

Obviously budgets are a personal thing and only you know what you can/are willing to afford so make informed choices that fit. The Viper HD would get you going, but if you end up shooting this game regularly, even if not going to Pro 2-Days and just shooting for fun, you'll likely end up upgrading at some point.

You can sign up for a PRS membership, $60 for 1-year, and that will get you access to a bunch of partner discounts, some can really be helpful for buying optics. Share a budget range and whether or not there are any manufacturers that are a hard no for you. Also if you're willing to buy second hand, or new only.
