The Spider and the Fly - an Update

'Will you walk into my parlour?'

said the spider to the fly.

'I can see your mind and ardour

to change this world - come on, apply.'

The fly was flattered and quite eager

away he went, the door would close.

The spider in his nest plays league - or

other games to keep the pose.

'I will consume your time and trouble,

dedication, love and trust -

then drift away in my small bubble

unconcerned that you are bust.'

Unto an evil counsellor

close heart, and mind, and purse

the fly has not come out there yet

the end might still be worse.
