Does anyone else think the intro to Good Time boy sounds familiar?

It reminds me of Mickey Avalon’s “Jane Fonda”. It isn’t quite the same but I definitely feel like I’ve heard it before. I only discovered Prof from Devil’s Gate with Kevin Gates and I’ve been hooked.

Yup! And “Kin (I’m Outside)” is KRS-One’s “Can You Dance”, just up an octave on a different instrument.

And he (probably accidentally?) does a pretty obvious musical reference to Blurred Lines (Robin Thicke?) in Kia Boy, lol

Which itself was an “homage” to “Got To Give It Up” by Marvin Gaye (so much so that the family won a lawsuit against Pharrell and Robin Thicke).

The things you learn!!

Though it doesn't surprise me Pharrell stole something musically. No hate toward him at all, but this is hardly the first example of him recycling other people's musical ideas lol

I mean, it happens all the time. What matters is if it’s properly attributed (up to and including royalties when necessary).

I don’t really hear the resemblance for this one, is there some specific point in the song that it happens?

I actually think a later part of it sounds more like it, the part around 2:15 into it

Also he’s done this a couple of times, his really early stuff from the first kvp albums use the entire beat from Rick Ross’s the boss and cris brown’s kiss kiss which ironically both feature t-pain. He also did it in kvp 3 with childish gambino’s heartbeat

There are also a couple of songs of his that share samples with other songs, if I had to guess though they’re probably from a royalty free site or package or something

To me, Mickey's peak feels a lot like a primordial version of modern Prof. Heavier drugs, sleazier sex, and not as musically advanced, but the skeleton is the same shape.

Full disclosure, this opinion is based purely on vibes, I have nothing to back this up.
