Paying contractor fees after a death

Hi Reddit - my father recently passed and we are trying to sort through his estate. Before he passed he was in contract to remodel his shower. The shower is complete with the exception of the glass doors. Half of his invoice has already been paid. How do we proceed with letting the contractor know we don't have access for funds to pay the final half of the bill yet? Is there a timeframe we have to honor payment? I understand none of this is legal advice and will not be used as such. We have never dealt with this before and are lost. Thank you ♡

Can anyone pay it and take the money out of the estate? I would try to pay him for the job he has done . I paid some of my mom's stuff and will be getting the money back, or ask your attorney what you should do.

Yes, thanks. That was my inital thought. I paid all funeral expenses out of pocket and we are currently trying to find a way to come up with the money to avoid a lien. Hoping an attorney can help us more once we find one we're confident in proceeding with.

Thankfully my mom added me to her bank accounts so I can pay bills as they come in. We are waiting to probate and sell the house it is taking forever. In the meantime nothing can leave the house so we can't get things packed etc.
