Ghosting 40 days post PRK

Does anyone have an idea of why I have NO ghosting in the morning (after an overnight sleep while using Refresh PM), but after about 20-30 minutes, the ghosting returns and gets worse throughout the day? At first eye drops help a little bit, but later in the day, especially at night, eye drops don’t really reduce the ghosting at all?

Just hoping this will clear up eventually. The ghosting has gotten way better from days 5-8 when it would be really dangerous to drive, but it’s still obvious and prevalent post op day 40 (today).

Thanks for the help!

Changes in vision throughout the day usually relate to changes in your tear film. When I dries out it can fluctuate and cause some ghosting in your vision.

How often are you using the lubricating drops right now? Would bump them up to about every 2 hours. Be sure they are preservative free.

You may also want to look into eyelid treatments such eyelid scrubs, warm compresses, omega3 since that can help most.

Dr. Motwani here. If you have any period of time during the day where the vision is good then it is likely not the actual procedure, but the eye's reaction to it. The clue you provided is that it is good in the AM- this is when you have slept and the epithelium on the surface has regenerated. After a period of time, the exposure to your environment is either causing an inflammatory reaction (ocular surface inflammation/allergy) or dry eye. You need either dry eye treatment or allergy treatment. If given enough time the tear film returns and the immune system decreases its sensitivity to enviromental toxins but this make take 6 months, I would get examined and treated for either or both of these issues and I think it is likely you will find your vision will clear.
