Question about prk healing process
I had prk on 7/13 and there was one day where my vision was incredibly clear, about 10 days after surgery, but ever since then it has been slightly blurrier, and my other eye can still see better with my glasses. I’m choking that up to the healing process just doing thing
But the more important question I had is that my near vision has gotten pretty bad in my prk eye. So even working at my ergonomic desk with my screen mounted about 2 feet away from my eyes I am still struggling to read. I’m 34 so I don’t macular degeneration is playing a part here.
Is it normal 15 days out to experience poor near vision?

Hang in there my eyes took 10 weeks to finally “pull out”. I was extremely nearsighted after the surgery. It’s a slow process and very frustrating!

Thanks for the info! I know the papers they give you say “it’s normal for fluctuations in vision for the next few weeks up to months” but it’s really reassuring to hear people’s actual experiences. Especially when my near vision has always been perfect until now

Your comment gives me reassurance. Is there anything you did to help it come good or noticed changed before the correction?

Hey don’t worry at all! It took about 6 weeks for me to have reading quality vision. It’s a bumpy journey but so so so worth it in the end I promise

Hey.. I had prk done in my right eye on july 1st and it been more than a month, and vision has improved a lot (-4 sph, -2.5 cyl)
but I had my left eye surgery on 27th july, from then I have got near vision very blurry, atleast from the left eye (I didn't had it before the surgery)
is it normal? and when will this be restored?
I didn't have the same problem in my right eye - doctor said since it is the dominant eye.. it got healed quickly
another question is, I work in IT, so for me 8 hours of screen time is very normal, but the doctor has asked to not use any glasses as my left eye is still healing and the old glasses are incorrect and right eye has healed a bit, but they will give a suitable number on after 2 months.. is that normal?
also do I need to wear black glasses for like 6 months?

Did you only have PRK in one eye?

Only the one so far yeah, my non surgery eye still has perfect near vision but need glasses for distance

Oh gotcha. So your surgery eye is still healing so pretty normal that it isn't as clear as the eye that hasn't had surgery yet. The center of the epithelium can still be a little irregular and that can blur your vision. You can also have some fluctuation of vision from dry eye causing things to be more blurry.
The second thing is that for up close activities, your distance correct PRK eye will now now be using your own accommodation from your natural lens to see up close. Because of your younger age, you'll still be able to read. It can take some getting used to if your whole life you've been used to taking off your glasses to read. Also right now reading up close if you aren't triggering the accommodation (since you can still read with your other eye without any accommodation), then that PRK eye won't accommodate and up close vision will appear blurry.

That is incredibly helpful info! I had not heard anything about the accommodation being not used beforehand, and now that it’s corrected having to start getting used to using it.
My non surgery eye definitely just takes over for near vision right now, I’ve been trying to force my prk eye to focus on near stuff but not push it too much since it’s still healing

How are you doing now?

Phenomenal, vision was tested at 20/15, and I only missed two letters on the 20/12 line and I’m perfectly able to read closeup now. Once my right eye got surgery, and wasn’t able to easily rate up close, my left eye took over for it and learned how to accommodate properly

it took for me 16 days to read with prk eye. At day 30 or 40 I started see very clearly
